ActionScript 2.0 :: Zipcode Characters Validation (Only Numbers And Max 5)

On the stage I have:
Textfield called "inputTXT".
And a button called "Go".
All I am trying to accomplish here is to have the input characters validated to be ONLY numbers and max 5. However, I don't want to use:"inputTXT.restrict = "0123456789". Instead I would like to check if the characters entered after pressing the "go" btn, are within the defined parameters above (numbers and max5). If yes, then I need to pass a URL, if not then I need to display an error message.

What I'm trying to do now is have 6 characters on stage (these characters are stored in an array) and 2 characters from this 6 will hold a number each and the other 4 will hold an alphabet each. What I want to do is to run this file many times and each time the each alphabets and numbers will be randomly displayed within these 6 characters there will always be 2 numbers and 4 alphabets but I shouldn't know which character will be holding an alphabet and which will be holding a number. I have only two functions now one function is to generate two random numbers to indicate which index of characters to pick to hold a number and then another for loop that run 6 times to addChild on stage.
Does anyone know how to make a random character (preferably easily defined as alpha or numeric or both) "code" effect in AS3? Here's some examples of what I'm looking for. roughly... [URL] (both of these examples are AS 1.0) I'm making a sort of "futuristic terminal interface" and want some random numbers / characters generated on the edges. I used to know how to do this before I switched to AS3.
I ran in to a problem I could not solve for a very long time While I was using Actionscript 3 in order to change the text of a classic text object in my .fla flash file, I did not see any change in my text field, and noticed that it doesn't display any numbers and some other characters (just some specific letters DID work).
I've created a custom textInput componenet that handles it's own validation using a private validator. The validation is enabled depending on the state of the component i.e. validation is enable when the components state is "edit".However, when the state changes from edit the internal validator is set to not enabled but the validation errors on the textbox do not clear - the textInput still has the red border and on mouseover the validation errors come up. What I want to happen is that when a validator is disabled the error formatting and error messages clear from the text input control.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this I tried setting the internal validator instance to enabled = false and dispatching a new focusOutEvent as below but the validation error formatting is still applied to the textInput contrl.

Is there a way to find the radial distance using the zipcode? My task is to search the all the users residing with in a specified distance. I know the zipcodes of the users. Eg, users between 25 miles from the current location. I have other search categories, for which i am using mysql queries. I am unable to figure anything out for the distance issue.
My backend is in php and frontend in Flex.
The best option for me would be something like that of www.zip-codes.com/zip-code-radius-finder.asp. ie, if I should be able to get all the zip-codes available in the specified radial distance. So i can compare this zip-codes to the users zip-codes in my database. And select the ones with a match.
I am having issue with my created flash, it can't handle chinese characters? is there some way i can handle this thru code? or should there be any font or language pack installed
1) Each field in the form only allows 3 characters and no special characters such as @ _ ! . , etc... 2) When the user goes to the next field in the form, the previous field appears blank but the when clicking on that again, the original text appears. 3) When submitting the form, it just keeps saying "in progress" and never shows the confirmation text nor does the email get sent. There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. I am posting both the AS code and PHP code below..
I want to generate a variable number of random numbers less than 16 with no duplicate numbers
Ive posted the fla, and what i'm doing is generating a random number and putting it into an array then using a for loop to cycle through the array for each new random number to check if its already there. if it is, then i want to regenerate that number.
if you test the fla you'll see that all i get in my array is some lovely zero's and i sort of know why this is, but don't know how to stop it.
I am trying to convert a string having numbers to an integer.

But it is not able to convert correctly as the the var res now has the value 100000000000000000. I know that the number has 52 bits of memory, then why is it not able to do the conversion?
create a function that picks out X amount of numbers from a set of numbers? So if X=3, then i need this function to pick out 3 different numbers from say a set of numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) and then stored it into X number of variables.
In saying that, X will only =2, and =5. So in the first instance, i'll need 2 random numbers from the set above that are not the same numbers, and second instance 5 random numbers from the set above (also no repeats of numbers). Then i need to be able to store those 2 or 5 different random numbers from the set into variables to call them with other functions.
I have been using Actionscript 3.0 in Adobe Flash Builder for a few weeks,and I really like it! Bare with me because I'm not really good at it, yet. Anyway, I was wondering how would I go by adding up odd numbers from an array of numbers? I know how to make all of the numbers add up, but adding only the odd numbers I'm not so sure how to do it.
Everything seems to be a string right now & that kinda ruins the whole xml as an internal data structure thing, I don't need a big tree of string I need typed data :-/ Are there any changes I can make to either my XML files or my AS3 code that will force it to cast ints as ints and Numbers as Numbers? Or maybe some kind of type schema I can impose? Not really worked with XML til recently so chances are I'm just ignorant of the canonical way to deal with this...
I've created a form based flex app that populates some fields on startup. I'd like to validate that several text fields/labels are not null on startup. If any required fields are null I"ll throw and alert and close the app. There are only 4-5 fields that I need to check.
I am doing some forms in Flash Cs4 with AS3. The forms are working well, but i have a code to check if people have enter information in every field. But the verification only works for 2 field. The code is exactly the same for the other but it doesn't work. Can you double check my code and maybe explain me why it doesn't work or maybe how to replace the validation code by another.
I'm making a small memory game that is XML driven (users can upload images into the game). I've come to the point where I need to check if the user has filled out certain nodes or not, and if so; check that the input is valid - int when int is expected and whatnot.
What are the ways to check this, and which is best? So far I've only tried checking if a node is == "" or not, but I imagine there must be better ways. I will include lots of switches for the user which should all be optional. This calls for a neat way to validate it.
I am using URL Loader to hit the server (e.g. Yahoo server) and then listing to HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS" listener for Status code 200. The basic gist is that it runs throught the input box and checks if the letters are in the array,and if they are it adds 1 to temp2 then at the end it checks how many characters are in the input box, and if they equal == temp2 then it goes to the next scene, else it says "Please....etc" The PROBLEM is that if the user types in a letter twice, such as " HELLO" then the code only counts 1 L instead of 2 L's. so then it throws out the sum because it wont be correct.

I am working on a page which uses uploadify to upload several images. The requires the user to upload these files. Is there a way to validate these field(s) on the client-side, such as with jQuery or JavaScript, prior to submission? I am comfortable with doing the server-side validation, such as with PHP.
I'm getting the "Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." error on my application. Is there a function I can use to detect this before it causes an error... maybe something like:
isValid(variableName);
I know there's one, because i've used it before, but i can't remember what it is right now.
