ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Functions To Dynamically Created MC's?

I am having trouble accomplishing the following:

This works fine if I use a number, but as soon as I try to use "n" within the function it throws an error. Would eval do this for me? I haven't used eval before.

I'm creating receives xml from the asp server its on.Because of this, there isn't an xml file that I can open and add to in the places I need carriage returns.To compensate for this, I've been using the split and join method.[code]Essentially I'm looking for certain nodes in the xml and adding a carriage return to the beginning of it.I had to add the extra quotes around the otherwise it doesn't work.The problem with this is, the carriage return works but it leaves the single quotes in the text.I tried adding another split join method that looks for the single quotes left and replaces them with nothing.The problem with this is, it deletes all the single quotes from the contractions.

ive built it based off of an example we made in class last year that i had lying around..
as you can see here everything works fine.
The only problem is I want to add some roll over effects to the thumbnail but im not sure how to go about this as they are all dynamically added to the stage..
The way I tried was adding an event listener to each thumb via the function that adds the thumbs to the stage (see the "createThumbs()" function below). The event listener works fine and calls to the function i assigned to it ("thumbRoll") but im not sure what to put in this function to effect the thumb that is moused over as im unable to access "btn_thumb" from "thumbRoll".
ps. sorry if the code is a bit messy, bit of an experiment for me to get everything working..

I'm dynamically creating movieclips with dynamically created movieclips inside them and am having trouble with targeting them.Below is a simplified example of what I'm trying to achieve, in the real file there are a lot more movieclips and I'm creating and naming them with a for loop.
This one is just one Sprite created inside another sprite. I can target the top level sprite named "testname". However when i try target the nested MC it throws an error.The bottom couple of traces are just test MCs I've made to make sure i got the syntax right, on targeting nested movieclips.

Essentially, I've got a MC container that's created dynamically based off an XML file (basically for every <title></title> I've got, it makes a new "card"). Now within the context of each <title></title> grouping I've got <imgs></imgs> in which I specify the path to images that are related.All of that works perfectly, save for the external jpg files actually appearing on the stage. The MC I add them to does, but the external image doesn't.My problem is- I can't add the external images until they're completely loaded (or so it appears). The thumbnail BG I use is blank. So I know for a fact that the thumbnail BG isn't occluding the loaded thumbnails.

I tried to search but 99% of the posts I saw were referring to manually created dynamic text boxes instead of.. algorythmically generated text for lack of better phrasing.
I'm trying to make an AS3 .swf that would display a small array of letters that have been created with TextField's, and not with dynamic text's being dragged onto the stage since there's going to be more than 100 of them. I've tried setting the textfield's .embedded to true, changing the fonts, making sure the text and backgrounds are different colors.. nothing.
In my .fla I have nothing for the document class under properties. In frame 1 there is one keyframe with three lines of code below and I've tried it with stop() and without. The class file is in the same folder and is MyArray.as This should be really easy but it's driving me insane.

im trying to create a series of buttons that will take the user to a link, each link different (obv.). i dont know how many buttons im going to have because im taking in an xml file and from there determining the number of buttons ill need but i need the buttons to go to their own sites. i cant get the buttons to remember where they have to go, they just get stuck on the last 1 through the loop.

I want to detect and then duplicate the functions that the flash IDE uses to wrap timeline actionscript. The "frame1", "frame2", "frameX", etc. functions that are the result of the MovieClip.addFrameScript the IDE uses.I provided a sample file that has a timeline object and an object created by some frame actionscript.I add an EXIT_FRAME listener to those objects and try to detect those functions.I can validate the objects are of the type "boxAnima"...as I expect.They should have this public function...public function frame10 () : *;I know the functions must be present since they effect the animation (boxes don't move right, only scale up&down)I can null out those functions by calling addFrameScript(x, null); and my timeline animation is effected(they move right after they scale)comment next line in fla to recreate nulling//box.addFrameScript(loop-1, null);But, I cant sense the functions existence by evaluating (functionName in boxAnima) nor boxAnima[functionName])... even if I eval at the same time I can effectively nullwhats odd, is if I decompile(using FlashDevelop to view classes in swf) the swfs I can see the class definition that shows my boxAnima extends MovieClip and has.

I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)

I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.

I'm making a multiple choice game and I have a dynamic text bok which says "correct" or "incorrect" accordingly. also want to make it automatically "gotoAndPlay" the next scene but I can't figure out how to tell it to both change the text in te text box and move to the next scene after they have answered the question. The "gotoAndPlay" always seems to overwride anything elseso I have the following so far:

i were trying to add onRollOver to a movieclip that i loaded with loadMovie(). But i were unable to give the MC functions. How would i add functions to a external MC? I did like this (Wrote from top of my head, sry for syntax error)

I am trying to add evenListeners to movieClips that are created by a method in one of my Classes. Creating an instance of my class from the main timeline and then adding that instance to the stage.:

i am learning to work with sharedobjects in flash mx, and i am trying now do to a little application, and in this application i will use a listbox to do some things, i have a message board that will keep the messages in the sharedobject named "visitas", i add data with a function, ,here it is:

I have what I think is a scoping issue with a listener. I have a movie clip which contains several picture management functions. I want to add a listener to it so that the next image loads before it is processed. Where do I put the listener - In the MC or in the root? At the moment, I have it in the MC but it does not run the function. I created a test function in the root which runs the listener no problem.

I used a loop to create a series of instances of a class called "Ball": ball_0, ball_1, ball_2, etc.But then somewhere else I need to add them on the stage. When Iusestage.addChild(Ball("ball_"+ballNum)) it gives me this error:TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "ball_3" to Ball.(ballNum was set to 3 at that time)it seems there's a new syntax (or something) that I don't get. I get the same type of errors when using other functions such as stage.contains()
