Jan 12, 2012

I have been trying to emulate a drag n drop program from flash and math site dragdroptour snap to location tutorial.It uses a placed variable set at the beginning of the script and updates it with a function used elsewhere. For some reason my version of the code will not update this variable could someone tell me where I've gone wrong? I've done this before in AS and think I used globalvars but I know you cannot do this in AS3 and I'm trying not to go down that route as I know it's bad practise.Its the paper1,2,3 vars that won't update with the release to drop functions.[code]

Actionscript 3 :: Elementwise Math On Bytearrays Without Having To Program It Explicitly

Oct 14, 2011

does anyone know if there is any possibility to do simple elementwise math on bytearrays without having to program it explicitely, e.g. a built-in function for multiplying all elements of a bytearray (of type float) by a constant or adding the elements of two bytearrays (with specified datatype)?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Program Functions Differently For Different Domains?

Apr 15, 2012

I have a linux distribution server, SME Server, and I use it to direct several domain names to a website on the server. My Flash program is a data driven directory that uses PHP constructed XML files to create the directory. I have been successfully using this Flash directory for some time using one particular domain, ictytranscripts.dyndns.org. I've since added a second domain name that I want to replace the first with, but for some reason the Flash program cannot read the XML files, or something. Whatever it is, the directories are not showing up.

There is nothing in the ActionScripts that have any reference to the old first domain name. I cannot imagine what is making the difference. Here is a test page showing the Flash program working successfully (I assume):

[URL]

And now the same page from different domains that direct to the same page:

[URL]

Notice that in the first the Flash program comes up, but there is no data displayed and in the second, there is no Flash program displayed at all.The XML files seem to be generated without any problems. [URL]

Make An Interactive Flash Movie That Explains A Painting?

Mar 5, 2010

I'm new ActionScript, and programming in general, however I've been doing a lot of tutorials and reading my Flash CS4 Bible, and cruising the forums like crazy trying to figure out how to go about scripting for my project.

Situation: I need to make an interactive flash movie that explains a painting.when you rollover different sections of the painting, I would like the rest of the painting to dim, and for that section to grow. if you are to roll out, it goes back to the first frame and the same thing happens for all of the sections.

If you are to click on any given section, there will be a voiceover, and possibly a little animation that goes along with it. if you either watch the whole thing or click anywhere on the painting, it should go back to frame.I've thought of a few ways to do it, but can't seem to get the scripting right.for now, I'm only worried about the first part because the rest is going to be similar.Frame 1 I have the painting and an invisible button over a section. frames 2-7 is that section growing and the rest of the painting getting dim there is a stop(); on frames 1 and 7

often seen in simple flash games. So you can look at an example. http:[url]....Green object shots a bullet and what i want to acheive is to run bullet toward black bar even if bullet is shot to the left side of the screen. Bullet should make a circle, slow down and change direction to the bar and finally proceed faster and faster to the bar. Simply it should behave like remote control rocket chasing enemy. Right now i am with this: Code: Select all

function movingBull(e:Event):void [code].........

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] Array Math, Graphing Functions

Dec 2, 2003

I want to make a graph. Specifically, a graph of a normal population distribution.I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the best way for me to do this is to use two arrays for coordinates and use the lineTo function to connect the dots:

- An Index array up to about 300 as the "x-axis"

- A Second array to represent the "y-axis" created using the formula for normal population applied to each entry of the index array

So I need to create these two arrays in FMX. the first array i think should be created with a For loop: for(i=0;i<a.length;i++){} The second array somehow applying my formula to each entry in array 1.I believe my methods are correct, but I am having a great deal of trouble getting the AS down properly and I can't find many good sources on it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Math Functions - Starting Variable Status Strength With 10

Apr 23, 2011

I am learning AS3 and I try to remake an SimDate game. I have studies the functions and the Steps of the game and now I try to make the Functions myself.

I have 5 Attributes:
Strength
Knowledge
Charm
Health
Dollars

For each of them I have defined a variable. Now I need to make an math function. If I want to raise str:
statusstrenght = statusstrenght + addstr

This code is not the original. My other code is down below. I only wanted to show the process.
addstr == Math.random() *5
I wanted that the variable statusstrenght starts with 10. If I press the train Strenghtbutton the action addstr will be started and updates the statusstr with the new value. That's what I had in mind but I cant define the new value off statusstrenght + addstr. Do I have to add a new variable with newstatusstrenght or can I just overwrite the value of statusstrenght if I press the train strength button ?

Here is the code. The math functions aren't working. It is AS3.
import flash.events.*;
var statusstrenght:Number = 10;
var statusknowledge:Number = 10;
var statuscharme:Number = 10;
var statushealth:uint = 100;
var statusdollar:uint = 100;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Math With Prototypes And Functions - Find The Distance Between Two Points

May 19, 2003

So, right now when I want to find the distance between two points, I go: dist = Math.sqrt((this_x-that_x)*(this_x-that_x)+(this_y-that_y)*(this_y-that_y)) BLECH! I don't want to do that every time. So I want to make a nice little function that I can apply to an object. Problem is, I don't know how to do this. Is it possible to end up with something as easy as: Math.dist(thisclipname, thatclipname)? How do you guys set up functions that do bulky math and return nice clean numbers?

Actionscript 3 :: Javascript Implement Math Functions Using Its Own Algorithms Or Outsource To Cpu/processor?

Nov 20, 2011

ActionScript3 states the following:

Note: The Math functions acos, asin, atan, atan2, cos, exp, log, pow, sin, and sqrt may result in slightly different values depending on the algorithms used by the CPU or operating system. Flash runtimes call on the CPU (or operating system if the CPU doesn't support floating point calculations) when performing the calculations for the listed functions, and results have shown slight variations depending upon the CPU or operating system in use.

My web application works with very large and small numbers that I suspect may see a difference depending on which machine is running it (especially with mobile devices whose processors aren't as powerful as desktop machines'). My question is, is this behavior a function of the language?

That is, I assume some languages implement their own algorithms for the above functions, and so may be more consistent (except for differences in round-off errors introduced by the choice of processor/CPU that would exist for all languages).

Anyone know if Javascript has it's own algorithms, or does it outsource them to the CPU/processor like ActionScript?

I would expect both of these to return 32. I have searched, and it seems this is an unreported bug in AS3. Or ... am I doing something wrong?

With a large number of items in the stack (each having a large number of panels, databinding, etc), this gets extremely slow. The Repeater seems to trigger creation of all children regardless of the creationPolicy of the viewStack itself.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Public Functions Being Called At Ttime Of Program Being Executed?

I started making my first complex game and ran into a problem that made me just stop everything I was doing and I have laid the project to rest until I can find out how to fix it.The problem is simple. I have a timer in a public class. The timer is private, but the function to start the timer is public. Only one class calls it. But as soon as the program starts, the timer function executes.Now that aside, why are some public functions being called at the time of the program being executed? The class that executes the function isn't even called until later/instantiated.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Separate Functions For Each Button And Added The Line RemoveChild() - Statement

Jan 7, 2012

I am trying to load various swfs into a main swf. The initial swf loads in by default, the others load when buttons are clicked. All of the buttons also call a lengthy function called loadpic which appears later in the code - Currently the buttons load in the swfs as required, however the swfs are always behind the initial default swf. Is there a way to add removeChild to the buttons? I have tried creating seperate functions for each button and added the line removeChild(); however doing that means I would also have to repeat all of the later functions as well. If I add removeChild(); without placing it in a function the default swf doesn't show at all.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Articles/tutorials - Best Practices For App Design?

Aug 6, 2010

I'm building my first Flash application. It's a stand alone barcode scanner - the scanner is built-in to the monitor. Basically it has a welcome screen with a video, and at any time you can either scan a product to get product info, or touch the screen for more options (more info, more videos, etc.), respectively.I'm looking for articles, tutorials, etc. that can give me best practices and tips for efficiently designing and organizing it. For example, what's the best way to switch between screens, keep track of which screen is showing, etc.

I've looked all over the web and can't find an article or tutorial on this, and while my app is working, the code is looking pretty spaghetti-ish and I really would like to learn the best way to plan and organize a project like this.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Build A System Where Users (restricted To A Very Few Admins) Can Publish News Articles?

Feb 18, 2012

I'm trying to build a system where users (restricted to a very few admins) can publish news articles. The form is simple enough: an input field for "Headline" (single line) an input field for "article" (multiple line) and a file reference field to include a picture.

The idea is that you can EITHER write a headline and some text and then publish | OR | write a headline, some text then choose a picture and publish.No check boxes - no "would you like to include a picture" - just an idiot proof system where you can wither publish text - or text and a picture on the click of ONE button.

The picture is placed (via php) into the file system on the server, the text for headline and article are pumped into an SQL database (via php). I know php well and can do that bit with no probs but I'm having trouble with the function to pump the vars to the php if the user HASN'T chosen to include a picture.

1) has anyone done this before and if so do you have a "boilerplate" fla / php I could copy and paste into my project ?

2) can anyone see any problems in the code (posted below) which would explain why the upload of pictures always works but the sql insert never works ? On the stage are two input fields and two buttons (obvious names in the code are 'head_txt' and 'art_txt' )

CODE:
import flash.net.FileReference;
var progressBar:MovieClip;
var reference:FileReference = new FileReference();

Video :: Overhead Of Using EventListener Versus Polling?

Jun 30, 2011

So I have streaming video coming in, and I want to know when it is buffering. This is fundamentally not that hard, just adding an EventListener for some type of buffering event, but I was wondering if this is necessarily the "best" way to do it.

My other thought was setting up a timer that polls the video feed every X milliseconds asking it if the video isBuffering(), or somesuch. While I could, in the worst case, wait the full X milliseconds before querying the video stream, I've decided that this doesn't actually matter to me; I can work around it, and indeed do so quite naturally already.

So I'm asking: is there substantial overhead involved in having an EventListener (assuming I already have quite a few), or is the advantage of catching the buffering event right away sufficiently appealing?

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
this._x += laserMoveSpeed;
if (this._x>1000) {
this.removeMovieClip();
}
}

The little x + part has to be fixed, but i have no idea what to substitute in order to make it shoot from the front.

Flash8 : Run A Flash Program From Another Flash Program?

Jan 29, 2010

I have created a flash program and I would like to run a second flash program from inside the first. To explain, say I am running a program that draws a circle and fills it with a color. Then, I have designed a second program that will divide a circle into sectors by entering percentages, to turn that circle into a pie chart. Is there a way to be running the "draw a circle" program and have a button that opens the "divide the circle into sectors" program in a new window and then passes information from that program to the first program. I am sure I will have to send the information from the second program to an XML file and then have the first program recieve it from the XML file (which I can do), but I don't know if I can run the second program from inside the first program.

Actionscript :: Much "overhead" To Various Types Of Screen Elements?

Oct 29, 2009

I've been developing Flash applications for several years, and here's something I've always wondered about.

I try to be as careful as possible about minimizing the amount of "overhead" that my application uses. (By overhead, I generally mean RAM, cpu processing effort, downloaded data, etc.) My goal is to consume as little of the user's PC resources as possible.

[Code]...

I circumstances matter - a few KB of "page weight" on Amazon.com or Twitter.com matter a lot more than on a site that gets a few hundred visitors a month. But in general, are there good tools to measure this type of thing?
