Actionscript 3.0 :: Distance Between 2 Objects : Math. Functions?
Feb 18, 2010
often seen in simple flash games. So you can look at an example. http:[url]....Green object shots a bullet and what i want to acheive is to run bullet toward black bar even if bullet is shot to the left side of the screen. Bullet should make a circle, slow down and change direction to the bar and finally proceed faster and faster to the bar. Simply it should behave like remote control rocket chasing enemy. Right now i am with this: Code: Select all
function movingBull(e:Event):void [code].........
//of course i dont know what should be inside if statement
So, right now when I want to find the distance between two points, I go: dist = Math.sqrt((this_x-that_x)*(this_x-that_x)+(this_y-that_y)*(this_y-that_y)) BLECH! I don't want to do that every time. So I want to make a nice little function that I can apply to an object. Problem is, I don't know how to do this. Is it possible to end up with something as easy as: Math.dist(thisclipname, thatclipname)? How do you guys set up functions that do bulky math and return nice clean numbers?
I want to make a graph. Specifically, a graph of a normal population distribution.I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the best way for me to do this is to use two arrays for coordinates and use the lineTo function to connect the dots:
- An Index array up to about 300 as the "x-axis"
- A Second array to represent the "y-axis" created using the formula for normal population applied to each entry of the index array
So I need to create these two arrays in FMX. the first array i think should be created with a For loop: for(i=0;i<a.length;i++){} The second array somehow applying my formula to each entry in array 1.I believe my methods are correct, but I am having a great deal of trouble getting the AS down properly and I can't find many good sources on it.
I'm trying to get the distance between two objects. Problem is that both objects are -45º rotated but one of them moves up and down with stage resize. So the distance gets a random degree. I've attached an image so that it could be simpler to understand my problem.
i am trying to develop a simple car game, and to do that i have to maintain the distance between the two wheels. for the collision detection i have used coreyoneil class, which i think is excellent. i cant get the distances to go smoothly. and basically i am finding it hard to get the physics to work.
p.s. i tried to upload the files here and got an error each time, anyone know why that is?
I am learning AS3 and I try to remake an SimDate game. I have studies the functions and the Steps of the game and now I try to make the Functions myself.
I have 5 Attributes: Strength Knowledge Charm Health Dollars
For each of them I have defined a variable. Now I need to make an math function. If I want to raise str: statusstrenght = statusstrenght + addstr
This code is not the original. My other code is down below. I only wanted to show the process. addstr == Math.random() *5 I wanted that the variable statusstrenght starts with 10. If I press the train Strenghtbutton the action addstr will be started and updates the statusstr with the new value. That's what I had in mind but I cant define the new value off statusstrenght + addstr. Do I have to add a new variable with newstatusstrenght or can I just overwrite the value of statusstrenght if I press the train strength button ?
Here is the code. The math functions aren't working. It is AS3. import flash.events.*; var statusstrenght:Number = 10; var statusknowledge:Number = 10; var statuscharme:Number = 10; var statushealth:uint = 100; var statusdollar:uint = 100; [Code] .....
Is there a way to duplicate objects, like lines across the screen quickly without using AS3 at a fixed distance apart? I tried using Ctrl+D but it has a distance for 7 pxl apart. I want to change that to 1 pixel. Is there a way to change this setting or a tool in flash IDE to perform duplicating quickly?
Note: The Math functions acos, asin, atan, atan2, cos, exp, log, pow, sin, and sqrt may result in slightly different values depending on the algorithms used by the CPU or operating system. Flash runtimes call on the CPU (or operating system if the CPU doesn't support floating point calculations) when performing the calculations for the listed functions, and results have shown slight variations depending upon the CPU or operating system in use.
My web application works with very large and small numbers that I suspect may see a difference depending on which machine is running it (especially with mobile devices whose processors aren't as powerful as desktop machines'). My question is, is this behavior a function of the language?
That is, I assume some languages implement their own algorithms for the above functions, and so may be more consistent (except for differences in round-off errors introduced by the choice of processor/CPU that would exist for all languages).
Anyone know if Javascript has it's own algorithms, or does it outsource them to the CPU/processor like ActionScript?
Here is my code: function createEnemy(event:TimerEvent):void { var enemyAppear = new MovieClip; enemyAppear = new Enemy(); enemyAppear.x = Math.random()*stage.stageWidth; enemyAppear.y = 285; [Code] .....
What I am trying to do is spawn a enemy to stage and when it appears on the stage I would like it to move across the stage a certain distance. Visual Example: O = enemy, X = original position, Y = new position O (Spawns @ Location X) X ---------------------------------------------------------> Y ( Moved from location X to Location Y)
I am working on the project where everything is based on the distance from the center of the stage. First I made this fla where flash outputs the x and y distance from the center. First problem is that I want to output distance only in positive numbers.
I am posting my code that attaches the movieclips on stage
[Code]...
i was hoping that when the newMc expands, all other mc would keep the same distance between each other as at initialisation. I not able to figure how to do it. maybe even an earlier post or llink where similar query was explained.
var p:int = 0; var n:Number = 0; n = 32.999999999999999; p = Math.floor(n); trace(p); // returns 33 n = 32.11111111111111; p = Math.floor(n); trace(p); // returns 32
I would expect both of these to return 32. I have searched, and it seems this is an unreported bug in AS3. Or ... am I doing something wrong?
I have a code in which I have to use Math.round if a certain value is for example 3.67 (67 is higher than 50) and Math.ceil if a value is for example 3.23 (23 is lower than 50). What can I do to make flash calculate if what after the dot . in 3.23 (for example) is higher than 50?
I tried turning the following object (clear sake) into the product of a function (see below),however, my attempts to display any kind of output produces "undefined".[code]...
I have two movie clips on the stage: mcA and mcB, each have a function when rolled over:
mcA.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER , aActivated);function aActivated (event:MouseEvent):void{ trace('mcA was rolled over');}mcB.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER , bActivated);function bActivated (event:MouseEvent):void{ trace('mcB was rolled over');}
Under certain circumstances mcA may overlap mcB. When the cursor rolls over their intersecting area I would like both functions to launch, how do I do that? Currently, the problem is that only the object on the top will launch its function.
I'm working on a flash video player and I'm trying to figure out how to access something inside the constructor that I know is set but it keeps telling me its not.
[Code]....
now in the metadata function its giving me the error, "Access of undefined property video" Now, am I just completely not understanding how classes work or is this a common problem?
basically I want my engine to display one out of three objects at random. I thought I had figured it out but apparently not. A familiar error message appears, "A term is undefined and has no properties". I'm sure it refers to the object I'm trying to spawn, however it rejects every object I refer to. Is my approach reasonable or should I scarp what I've got?
Code: var spawnObject:Array = new Array("Object1", "Object2", "Object3"); var randomNumber:Number = Math.round(Math.random() * (spawnObject.length - 1)); if(spawnObject[randomNumber] == "Object1")
I'm working on a simple image processor in AS3 and as usual I almost had it finished when an annoying little problem appeared. I want to open an image using a dialog box, and once the image is open I want the "selectBtn" (which is in my Library) to disappear. However when I try the code below I get a: "Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference". I'm sure it's something simple but I just can't figure it out!
// declare variables var image:Bitmap; var loader:Loader = new Loader();
I'm currently working on a nav bar but I've run into a questionable situation. There are several links in the menu, and for each i'd like a mouse event on over and on out. Do I have to specify both of these events for each link, or is there an easier way to do it that I don't know about? Can you apply event listeners to multiple objects/functions?
I'm working on a flash video player and I'm trying to figure out how to access something inside the constructor that I know is set but it keeps telling me its not.
Here is the code Select allpackage player { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.media.Video; import flash.net.NetStream; import flash.net.NetConnection; import flash.utils.Timer; [Code] .....
Now in the metadata function its giving me the error, "Access of undefined property video". Now, am I just completely not understanding how classes work or is this a common problem?
or some variation thereof. I understand that the function first finds the maximum value of two values then turns around and uses that to find the minimum between two values.why this is done? And how do you know when to use it?
So here is a piece of code that I have seen used a lot but don't really quite understand:[code]or some variation thereof. I understand that the function first finds the maximum value of two values then turns around and uses that to find the minimum between two values.And how do you know when to use it?
I have a series of calculations i'm doing over a bunch of objects stored in a array. Each function is pretty CPU demanding but if you only run one function, it just works fine.
I've got a project thats getting a bit big, so Im taking the actionscript out into separate as files. I want all the basic functions to be in BasicFunctions.as and the make a library for more specific functions. I find that a lot of people use the import statement but I cant get that to work with a simple Hello World trace, yet the include statement works fine (see attached). I understand that import/include work differently, but which is the better method? If import, then is that heavier to work with. Any rate, what's the best way to organise code when it gets to the 1000+ lines?
