View 9 RepliesThis may be a simple question, but I'm relatively new to the actionscript side of Flash.I have buttons that each load a different movie clip into, let's say, Level One. I'd to know how to write the AS so that if a specific movie is already loaded into that level, it won't load again when the button is pressed.
View 2 RepliesI have a movieclip(parentMC) which consists of several other movieclips(childMCs). Each childMC can trigger an event, and each event performs a different function. I want to check from my parentMC whenever there is an event triggered by any of its child.

View 9 RepliesI need to trace the current level number that I am working on. So say I have 3 swf's loaded onto different levels (_level0, _level1, _level2, _level3), and each has a button, so when I press the button in level1, the number will trace 1, press button in level2, number will be 2, etc.
View 1 RepliesI have 3 different movieclips loaded to the stage. Placed on different layers when I press the button which is associated with the right movieclip I get working only the one that sits above all. The rest is being played in the back of this movieclip.
I have 2 solutions in mind, I hope you guys could help me at leas with one of them.
-I have prepared a fade out inside each movieclip but why I am new to AS3 (I used AS2 before) I can't figure out how to trigger this when another movieclip started to play.
or
-To get the actual movieclip placed on the highest level when a button is pressed.
Is there a way to add some code in the first frame of the main movie's timeline that sets certain MC's that I specify into level 1000? I'm going to be using swap depths for a project but I need certain clips to always remain on top no matter what. The swap depth of the other movies will constantly be raising them by 2 levels, so I figure I'll put the ones I need on top on level 1000 as the others should never reach that high. I was thinking I'd have to either add an array with the MC's I need moved to level 1000, or make them _global. and set a property to that somehow.
View 3 RepliesI have a movie (back.swf) and this calls into another (menu.swf, level20). I want to control the movie clips to the level0 with the buttons on level20. I do that but I can't control in a random order.
For example:
I press button 1 and play movie clip 1.
I press button 2 and play movie clip 2.
But if I press again button 1 don't play it.
And if I press the button 3 play the movie 3 but don't allow to return to the button 1 and 2.
Every movie clips are in level0.
I am writing a simple game in which the hero will need to jump on a trampoline. The thing is there are various trampolines (set as instance name tramp1, tramp2, tramp3 etc, and only one trampoline will be active at any given time. I have set a variable _global.level which decides which trampoline is active but how do I do the hit test?
So far I have:
trampland = _parent.ground.tramp2.spring.hitTest(this._x+8, this._y+32, true);
if (trampland) {go and do something}
But how do i tell which 'tramp' to use? I have been trying
_parent.ground.tramp[_global.level].spring,
But to no avail.
how can i simply check if a returned value is a number i.e, 12 , 12.5, 12.75
if (_myValue == [[NUMBER]])
{
fire()
}
How can I check for a whole number in AS 3?[code]...
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to validate a flash form. In one case I need to know how to check if the value is a number.
View 1 RepliesI tried this:
ActionScript Code:
trace(Number(array[i]));
if(Number(array[i]) != NaN){
upTo += Number(array[i]);
}
which give me an error: Illogical statement with NaN. The statement allways evaulates to false.
which isnt true because the trace tells me NaN
how can I check if it is actually a number before trying to add it?
If i had a string "2 cats", how could i use a loop andif statement to check if there is a number in there
I have this so far:
for (var i:Number=0; i<string.length; i++){
if(equation.charCodeAt(i) <= 57)
{if(equation.charCodeAt(i) >= 48)
[Code]....
It does work, but is there a more efficent qway of doing this?
How can i check if a number is between two other numbers like:

View 1 RepliesIs there anyway of using AS to check if a number is either higher than a certain value, or closer to a certain value. The purpose, if the number in the text box is either higher than the other text box, or closer to say, 500, than the other one, then, it displays something in a dynamic text box.
View 3 RepliesIs there a script which will check if a certain text or number is in a value. I am adding a ip blocker onto my flash document, so let say I want to block a user with ip of '100.200.30.4' and I want an actionscript that checks if the ip address contains 100.200, if it does, it will block the user. How do I do that?
View 3 RepliesI have a slider where I check the current value to see if it's within various number ranges. I'm basically running the same comparison over and over for 14 range sets. Is there a way to not have to hard code each one?The snippet below is hard coded 14 times with incrementing boxes[x] values. boxes[x] is a predefined array:
Code:
if (sliderval >= boxes[1].position && sliderval < boxes[2].position) {
//do 1st code
}[code].....

I'm trying to check wether two MovieClips are of the same kind or not. I have a collection of MovieClips stored in a dictionary, I'm then iterating over the entries and comparing each MovieClip with a MovieClip passed into the function. The problem is, it doesn't work. Neither does (==).

I'm trying to check if 2 movieclips hit each other. I know you use the command "hitTestObject". That is working good but I use this in combination with a tweenlite.to.
code: TweenLite.to(tvirus,1,{y:stage.stageHeight,ease:Li near.easeInOut,onUpdate:checkHit,onComplete:remove Virus})
protected function checkHit():void{
if (zombie.hitTestObject(tvirus))
[Code]....
I have 2 problems. First with the hit test it have me 4 times hit instead of one time. The second problem is that he gave me an error on the removeChild. What are my errors ?
I would like to do a simple check when I load an XML file for the most number of characters of children nodes. In other words, if any child node contains more than 50 characters I want to to configure stage objects differently.[code]
View 2 Repliesive got a c++ program that im writing, its a simple calculator, the way it runs is by the user entering a number then another number, then the operand..what i need to know is how to carry out a check on the two integers so that only a number can be input, if anything else is then the program returns to the "insert first integer" code.
