I am having an issue getting my custom made classes imported to the flash movie. It seems to ave a problem importing (or using) the class. Here is the as code I am attempting to use to import and call to a function inside of a class:[code]

I am trying to create a new flash movie. I am using CS4, for publishing movie -> flash 8 - AS-> 3.0. My issue is if I publish the movie I receive the following complier errors - > ActionScript 2.0 class scripts may only define class or interface constructs.

a few days ago i have started running across various errors and glitches in the app i am developing, and after a lot of time found out the following fact:
just as the title reads, flash started ignoring changes i make to classes i use, as if it has an internal cache of imported classes and refuses to check for changes. it notices when i remove class from directory, it notices when i comment out a whole function, BUT if i comment out the contents of all of the functions, leaving just their declarations, flash executes them "perfectly" well. where does it takes their contents from? how to delete the cache?
while trying to save a class at a certain point when i was dealing with this, i got a "sharing violation" error, that told me i cant save it.

I've been having this really annoying thing happen the past few days, that has happened before but not as frequently. I create a project in Flash Builder, import some classes, and then on occasion it keeps erasing those classes. So then I get errors in a lot of my datatypes, have to go back through my document and retype the datatype so that it reimports the class.
I know flash builder can be a bit buggy at times

I have a bit of code that calls a custom class that I made in flash. Basically when you roll over this logo I have a function that makes a new instance of a custom class and calls it to the stage like a little pop-up text when you roll over something. Then when you roll off of it I remove it from the stage. The following code is for the first pop-up text.

I've created a base class to house some basic functions I'd like to have across several movie clips in a game I'm making, however, when I link a custom class to the same movie clip I get the message; "The base class will not be used because the class specified is already defined and extends its own subclass. If you wish to use the base class, specify a class name in the Class field that will be auto-generated or enter the default base class 'flash.display.MovieClip' in the Base Class field." I removed the 'extends MovieClip' inside the Class but it still shows the message. Does this mean that I cannot use a custom class and a custom base class on a movie clip?

How is it possible to get codehints for classes that you have made or downloaded? I tried the program "Primalscript" and it makes a template class structure when you begin a new class where codehints and other stuff where declared in comments... Is that the way to go, and if so - how? I would like to get the parameters that are needed for certain classes to popup in that yellow little textbox as you type for instance: "Math.round(" You'll get a popup textbox saying "Math.round(number)".

I'm working on a project that imports custom classes (from external as files).
Each class is in it's own file (correctly named, located), and they import and compile fine.
I am building the text version using the Flash IDE (?), and am only using actionscript. The final version will be build using Flashdevelop.
Why does the compiler choke and give an error ("1037: Packages cannot be nested") when a package is coded in the main movie?
Isn't all as code in AS3 supposed to be contained in a package?
Here is the code that works - is this OK (in regards to package code)?

An unashamedly naive question, I'm afraid, from someone trying to get to grips with as3 classes... I have a movie clip (a car) on the stage that's linked, through the 'Class' field in the symbol properties dialogue box, to a class which allows it to move. This works fine, until I attempt to set up collision detection for a movieclip representing the track, by importing a CollisionDetection class; then, the car movement class does not appear to be imported at all. Neither does it appear to work when I include any import statement on the main movie's timeline.

Well this is strange:

I'm currently implementing an 'interactive map', and I want the mouse cursor to change (from one to, two, to three arrows custom-made arrows), when the user 'mouses over' certain parts of the map. For example, there is currently 4 x3 grid on the map and when the user mouses over to each of the four corners, the cursor will change to three arrows (which have already been designed), and when the cursor mouses over the grid on the 8th grid on the right, the cursor will change to two arrows..... and so on.

i need to mix two images one photo and a placeholder. The idea is that we see the placeholder except where the palceholder has a particular color, in that case the user sees the photo. Something like chroma key.For this purpose i wrote a Pixel Bender shader that acts as a BlendMode. If the background is in the right color output the pixel image otherwhise output the pixel from the placeholder.

Everything works fine except for the fact that i had multiple placeholder, one over the other and my shader don't check the color of its own placeholder but the color of everything under the photo.Is there a way to force BlendMode to consider only a layer or a specific background color ?Is there a smarter way to obtain the same result ?

I want the stage to react every time some changes are made to certain objects. Is there a way to write custom Event? I could of course modify this object, but I would like to know if there is any more OOP way to do it. And events ARE OOP, ain't they?

I have a CustomSimpleButton class and a CustomSprite class which creates a bunch of CustomSimpleButtons and displays them at runtime. How can I access other objects on the stage in Flash inside of my two custom classes? If I want an object tween to occur when one of my custom buttons is clicked how do i reference the object that I want to tween if I'm inside of my custom class.

whenever I try to test my flash movie my imported graphics appear as pure red... I've tried using a jpg,png,bmp, and even just importing the photoshop document...why won't it work?

Basically I need to pause a Captivate movie (CP3) that is playing within a flash movie (CS4, AS3).
I have made a full motion recording with Captivate which I have imported into a flash movie. The flash movie is organised as a series of movieclips that play from the main timeline. My CP demo forms part of one of these movieclips (there are flash objects playing "on top" of it in different layers). I have a play/pause button on the main timeline that works to pause all of my movieclips EXCEPT for my captivate demo. This continues playing, while the movie clip is forms part of pauses, throwing everything out of sync.
how I can pause CP portion? My actionscript skills are minimal and I'm not even sure what object(s) to target.

I have loaded an external swf in my main movie, the swf is a picture gallery which loads images from an XML file. The directory structure is as below[code]...
When i run the main movie, it is looking for the Thumbs folder in the root folder. How can i make the images load from the subfolder?
Do i need to change the relative path in the XML?

I use multiple custom classes like tweenlite, csvparse, papervision and many more. The way I do is put them in one central location and edit Flash CS4 Actionscript 3.0 settings to include that location.The problem I face is even though I don't use all the classes in a project, flash CS4 compiles every single class that is in that central location eventually increasing my compile time by minutes.

Lets suppose, I have a class with so many public properties

public var fathername:String;
//etc etc
}
Now i want to iterate over them in a simple way like
for (var key:string in person){

But AS3 doesnt allow this to do with Classes
what would be the better and simple way to iterate over them as i dont want to do so many if(else) on it.
