ActionScript 2.0 :: Detect Collisions Between Movie Clips And A Line?
Nov 26, 2004
How do I detect collisions between movie clips and a line created through actionscript (with the lineStyle, lineTo, etc. commands). I tried making the line inside a movie clip and doing a hitTest with that movie clip, but it did nto work.
How do I detect collisions between movie clips and a line created through actionscript (with the lineStyle, lineTo, etc. commands). I tried making the line inside a movie clip and doing a hitTest with that movie clip, but it did nto work.
I am looking to create a drawing component on a site. that should be straight forward.the issue lies with the fact that I would want to detect any collisions say (4) and then attach MC's to the collision points.in a nut shell.can I get a trace of the drawn path on the stage?????from there I guess I can detect any positional similarities?
I'm trying to detect a mouse rollovers on dynamically generated movie clips but I just can't make it work. Only way I can make it work is to put actions inside the duplicated movieclip.
var total = 6; myThumbs = new Array(); for(i=0; i<total; i++) {
[Code]....
Everything works fine except when I roll over the mc the value of this["myThumb"+i] is undefined.
I've got two movie clips; right_hip and left_hip. How can I make it so a line is drawn between the two?And, as a precaution, how can I make one point offset? By that I mean if right_hip was a square, and it's registration point was on the left side, how do I make the line go to the centre of it?
I try to connect a line object between 2 draggable movie clips. If either MC changes position, the line will follow and still connect to it. The first version I got is as following: (works smooth but takes high CPU and computer resources if there are thousands of objects duplicated)[code]...
wat i want to make.. is a graph plotter.. i add movie clips on the stage and a line should connect them all.. but im having a fkload of problems in solving that..here is the code for adding the movie clips.
function makeABox(e:Event):void { var newBox:myMC = new myMC(); addChild(newBox);
I'm making a movie w/ no interactivity and I want to put a series of movie clips on the main time line, each to play after the previous movie clip is done. The only way I can make it work is to put the movie clips in keyframes and then allow all all the frames for the movie to play. My movie is way too long and I know there has to be a better way! I'm trying to figure out the action to assign to the keyframe that will play the movie clip within that one frame and when it's done, go on to the next movie clip.
I'm working on a game (my first) where objects touching is A-Ok, but I want to detect overlapping collisions ahead of time, prevent them, and react. This seems like a pretty basic and common thing, such as a character walking along a platform (even though by touching it it's 'colliding'), but of all the many many collision detection tutorials I've looked at, none of them have covered this case--they all assume that objects touching should be indistinguishable from overlapping. I've been using a workaround of a slightly smaller hitbox to use for collisions, but it has issues of it's own that make it not so good. So basically I'm looking to redo my CD from scratch.
So, like I said, I'd like to know how to differentiate between 'touching' collisions and overlapping collisions, but even a way to keep touching collisions from triggering entirely would work.
I'd like to control a movie clips current frame by another movie clips action script.I realise the following controls the outside (root) frame time line:
on(release){ _root.gotoAndStop(1); }
but I'm not sure how to apply that to my other movie clip. I'm guessing it would be something like this:
As most of you don't know, I've been creating an rpg game. And, after several tries of art making, etc, I have finally moved back into coding the game. And now, I'm stuck on the equipment system idea. At first, I thought I would just place a bunch of goToAndStop's for each movie clip to go to a frame that has that certain armor piece. This was my first idea for an equipment system. However, after doing some research, and realizing how much lines of code could be saved, I started looking into simply adding and removing movie clips from the character as my new equipment system idea. Now.... on to the problem.
Basic want/ overall achievement wanted: Create an equipment system, which will basically attach movie clips (items) onto characters, which themselves will already be attached movie clips on the stage.
Problem: What is the exact code to do this? And Is there a better way to do this for an equipment system (a less laggy or more efficient way perhaps that I'm not seeing; Check the code below to get a better idea of what I'm talking about)?
Part of the code (or basic idea of code; see comments for extra details
code: //Don't worry I have an OnEnterFrame function here; //attachedObj= the character; figure= the MC name of the character; attachedObj = attachMovie("figure", "figure"+1, 1);
I have multiple movie clips on stage (all in separate layers, of course) as well as buttons on stage to play each movie clip. There are buttons inside each movie clip. The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.
I have some trails data that I am adding to an interactive map. The trails were imported from Illustrator and are lines that have been converted to movieclips upon import. I'd like to add effects and some interactivity to the lines upon click and mouse_over. The difficult piece is that Flash treats movie clip like a box making it dificult to click on just the trail you'd like info for. For example, if there are two trails next to one another, clicking on the one you want can be difficult.
Is there a way that I can make it so that only the line part of the MC is the piece that responds to mouse action (rather than the whole box which encompasses its extent)?
How would one go about masking movie clips that are nested within other movie clips?
I have a photo gallery slider type of thingy that loads jpegs with loadMovie into containers. I can mask the entire movie clip but as for the containers,...well I just dont know whats going on here.
1. I would like to be able to delete one by one the new movie clips
2. I would like to move them all together.... First you press the word green and then click in the blue area.... A green cyrcle will appear.. Click the word green again and then in the blue square and a new green cyrcle will appear. I would like to move the cyrcles with the buttons arrownd the blue square... And when I press delete I would like to delete any cycle I choose... The flash is too large to attach it to the forum, if anyone is interested I can send it by mail.
I'm drawing a simple line with API and I would like to know how to detect what angle the line has and where a ball hits it.Scenario: the player draws a random line in a random angle, a ball comes in from random points and hits the line, the ball then bounces off the line depending on where it hit the line (and of course depends on the line's angle).I draw the red line with this: (on a 400x400 stage)Actionscript Code:graphics.lineStyle(2, 0xFF0000, 100);graphics.moveTo(150, 150);graphics.lineTo(250, 250);The grey, green and purple lines are just demonstation of the ball movement, comming in from outside the screen, hitting the line and bouncing off in different directions. I just made a guess on the angle they will bounce off in.
I just can't figure out how to detect the line's angle and where the ball hits it. So all I have is a ball flying in from random positions and hitTests the line (not coded yet, but no problem to do ball movement and hitTesting with line), I don't know where to go from there until I know how to detect where it hits the line.I know this is a double post (from the Games section), but I realized this place seems to have more activity and not many seem to visit the Games place anymore.
There is some information but I couldn't figure it out:How can I detect if a line intersects with a triangle ? And how can I detect the point of intersection in AS3 ?
I want to be able to write a paragraph in a textfield, and then click and hold, or do some similar gesture, and have the entire paragraph selected. I'm then going to drag it (using bitmapdata or whatever) to another textfield.
In order to do this, I need to be able to detect where a given paragraph ends. So I'm trying to do that with the following code, which searches for " " in the text.
Currently, I am using the code below. But it is telling me that the circle is starting to hit the line when it's y position is 40. But since the circle actually isn't crossing the line itself (virtually) until it's y position is at about 205, I don't want the trace-action called so early.
Code: var circle: Sprite = new Sprite(); circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000); circle.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 10); circle.x = 170;
Here's what I'm trying to do (in example form): I have a movie clip called "dude". Dude is animated to walk around, then drop a cigar (all inside the movie clip). But the problem is, dude moves, so if you try and move dude as the cigar is dropping, the cigar moves with him. So what I want to do is create a new movie clip instance called "cigar" OUTSIDE of the movie clip dude right as he's dropping it, so that you can move him without moving the cigar. Get it? I've attached another helpful animation to explain.
What I have right now is, on the 13th frame of dude, a few lines of code that create and place an instance of cigar. In that frame I also have an invisible instance of cigar for me to duplicate. Inside of the cigar movie clip is the animation that makes it fall to the ground. I need to change that code so that the instance of cigar is created outside of the movie clip dude. Here's the code I have now (inside of dude, on frame 13):
I have a problem stopping multiple clips. I have created a presentation using flash and I have many movie clips which have sub movie clips inside of them. Ok lets look at one movie clip in detail. Inside one _root movie there are multiple sub movies; each with a different movieclip labels (each movie clip is named with unique labels ie. north, south, east, west, and What I need to do is be able to STOP all these sub movie clips with one stop, and in turn PLAY these same movie clip with a second action.
The only way I know how to stop all these sub movie clips is to target each and every one individually.
What I'm trying to do is have my Flash piece have custom elements set by an XML file. I'm using ColorTransform. I have a piece that's loaded as a separate movie clip, and I can't figure out how to get to the piece and apply the ColorTransform.
Here's one example of what I'm doing for a different element on the same mc.
[code]...
So, in this example, I'm setting header_mc to a color specified in the xml. In the case I'm having trouble with, I want to set a color to a movie clip on the timeline and not the main movie
I am setting up a flash game with seven toggle on/off buttons that all do the same thing.I know how to assign them all to be able to do the same function in the main timeline. What I can't figure out is how to get them all to also do the same function within each of their respective movie clips.
I've been trying to reproduce an animation effect I've seen on the Armani website, but I'm stuck trying to duplicate an empty movie clip with image loaded into it. The duplicates exist and I can move them, but they are invisible. Since the duplicates reside on depths above the intitial clip I'm confused about why they are invisible. The duplicates are scripted to follow behind the initial clip - each offset by 30 pixels (though I don't have that working perfectly).
