ActionScript 2.0 :: Detect When Flash Is Loaded From A Local Drive?
Feb 10, 2012
Is there a script that checks if the flash is loaded from a local drive?
Example: Keric opens a flash file. The script then checks if the file is being played from a local drive. If it's not, ads will be displayed.
Something like a domain lock. Uhm, local drive lock?

I am trying to create Flash video for usb drives sold to customers with their pictures on it. After the video plays, can I have a link to a local folder, IE: named YOUR_IMAGES on the drive, and have that folder open on their machine when clicked? Or is there to many variables with what what the drive letter name that will be assigned on customers machines? So there will be the same .SWF on every drive sold, then a folder named the same thing with the customer pics on it.

Does anyone here have an idea on how to create a folder on your local hard drive via flash AS3, the name of the folder will depend on what you enter on the textfield in the .swf file.

I'm looking to create a solution that will enable me to have a folder of AVI files on a USB drive, packaged along with a custom designed player (probably built in Flash). I would like to creare the packaged flash file in a way that will autorun on inserting the drive if at all possible. The solution will need to be platform agnostic (hence my thinking that Flash would be the best bet). Has anyone come across a tutorial for achieving anything even similar to the above?

We would like to build a flash video player into our corporate intranet site, currently we are evaluating JW Player and have come across and issue accessing the FLV files stored on a mirrored share drive that all users have access to on the local intranet.From what I can tell the Adobe flash plugin will not allow a SWF file hosted 'online' (intranet) to access a shared directory that the user has access to. Is there any way around this?

In all previous versions of flash I have been able to use "geturl" on a button and pull up a pdf in a local directory on my computer. Now with CS5, the same code pulls up a webpage and actually tries to go to a url. Is there a new way in CS5 to open a pdf on my local drive?

I am using basic addEventListeners and functions to create a basic navigation for my homepage... when I test the movie on my local drive it fuctions perfectly, but when I upload it to the www, the movie behaves different... All the buttons must be clicked twice to function properly.... each button uses the UI Loader to load the appropriate .swf clip, but on the first load the movies dont function properly, when the same button is clicked again and the movie is loaded again, it works fine. I noticed cause I have a preloader for every movie clip that loads and on the first click it doesnt work, on second click it works, and because it function fine on my local drive I'm lost as to what I can do to fix the problem, or what the problem is.

I have a html page on my c drive (it will not be hosted online, ever) which embeds a swf from a server, with swfObject, allowScripAccess is true. I need that swf to invoke some calls to the html's js funcitons. I get an error stating [code]...
I know i can solve it by going to settings mamager and adding my C to my "trusted sites".... I, however, need a different solution, that does not involve tweeking settings manager. Tried adding a crossdomain to the root of the directory on my comp, with no luck - im assuming for crossdomain to work it must be hosted on a server - and my local directory is not a server, and cannot be one ( no localhost is allowed as per requirement).

I have an actionscript app which needs to use SharedObjects. I see how if the user doesn't allow the Flash Player to access local storage, the security settings panel automatically pops up and asks for user input.
My problem is that my app runs with a 1x1 pixel stage, because it doesn't display anything. So the user will never see that panel and the program will seem to hang.
What I want to do is to somehow detect that the user doesn't allow the Player to access local storage so that I can open a new window large enough to display that panel.
The only way I've been able to detect this so far is to try to call SharedObject.flush() and check the return value, but that displays the settings panel.

I'm trying to load a local xml file:
xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("../xml/xmlData.xml"));
But I'm getting this security sandbox violation:
#2148: Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources.
I don't get this error when I embed the XML file directly with the EMBED metadata tag.

I'm developing a game add-on/plugin which replaces a built in feature of an online game. The game loads an .swf therefore, my solution also has to be an swf for it to work 'in-game'.
I would like to be able to have the user press a button in the custom .swf I am making - and this would open an external application (amongst other things). I.e. if there was a button that said Notepad, it would open Notepad.exe on the machine.
My initial thinking was that i could have a XML Socket server 'daemon' runnning (c#) , which i could connect to with flash - however, as both the swf and the daemon are local, flash complained and gave this error: "Error #2010: Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets."
The only way i know to fix this - is to change the security settings of flash - not very user friendly!
So! Any thoughts on how I could otherwise go about this? I was thinking a custom http server could do the trick (connected with URLRequest) although i'm not too sure.

I have the following problem when loading a swf file. I have content.swf file located at [URL]. The contetn.swf access a file settings.xml located in the same dir. I load it like this:
_settingsURLRequest = new URLRequest( "settings.xml" );
_settingsLoader = new URLLoader();
_settingsLoader.load( _settingsURLRequest );
Now I have another file loader.swf located at another domain [URL]. The loader.swf file loads content.swf but content.swf search for the settings file at domain2 not domain1. I know that I can use absolute address when loading the settings file but I'm loading a lot of files and I prefer another solution. Is there a way to specify that content.swf should always search for settings.xml in its own domain no matter the fact that its being loaded from onother file in onother domain?

I made a particle generator that spawns bubbles... the particle spawner is a movieclip and all particles are children to it... this spawner is then loaded to stage with some more instances of it and they're arranged so that they produce enough bubbles to cover pretty much the whole screen...
So far so good... the trouble is that this project is meant to be projected into a hologram, and needs to be positioned, rotated and distorted to fit the irregular projection space...
My idea is to just leave the particle generating swf as it is and load it into another swf, then do all the positioning and rotationing as if it were a movieclip... My knowledge of Flash and the way movieclips have they own local spaces tells me that this has no reason to not work... but apparently, loaded swf's have a mind of their own...
I'm loading the swf using the UILoader component, which seemed to me the easiest way to get it working, since it doesn't need to be dynamic or anything... I just want to position it once, save it at that, and leave it be...
the trouble is that once loaded, the particle generating swf spawns it's emmiters (there are 5) in relation to stage space, and not loader space... so it doesn't respect it's boundaries or orientation...
I've tried all possible settings of the UILoader parameters... none seem to work with an swf that is creating movieclips at runtime...
Does anyone know why this is? I'm probably missing something stupid here... I'm feeling rather dumb today... yesterday I created the whole particle emmiter and bubble physics in 2 hours, but today it seems my head doesn't want to go and I'm stuck with this rather silly problem...
I tried placing the UILoader into another movieclip, so that any loaded content would be inside that movieclip's space, but it just doesn't respect any orientation... btw, I'm not rotating it by code... yet... I was trying to get it working using the editor, which would indeed be much faster and simpler.

It's accessible as a public property of the external SWF.When I load the external SWF file using the Loader class everything comes in fine but when I try to assign the value of that property, which traces out as an instance of the correct object, to a local variable the local variable is always null.Below is a dumbed down sample of what I'm trying to accomplish:# Object Class

My code so far.

I can't get my head around this. I know there's a clever way to do this but none of my ideas seem to be the solution. I'd like to dispatch an event when there are no more items to be loaded. I'm working with Drupal and AMFPHP and loading some nodes. The number of nodes may vary from day to day so I need a way to know when the last one has loaded.
In the code below, I am building an array to use elsewhere in the application. Once all nodes have finished loading I'd like to know what the final length of portfolioItems is.

I have a main swf that will load external swfs into a container. I need to detect the end of the loaded external swf in order to start to load and play a new one into the same container. The problem is that i do not know what the length of the external swfs will be, and will have no control over the development of them, so i cannot place a variable at the end of their animation which would allow me to detect from the main movie its end. I also cannot rely on the _totalFrames property because the loaded swf might not have all the animation inside its main timeline.

In the past, using Flash CS3 when I needed to remove timers or event listeners from a swf that had been loaded into a parent swf I'd use this inside the loaded swf:
Code:
this.addEventListener(Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE, deactivate, false, 0, true);
function deactivate(e:Event):void
{
[code]....
Now that I've upgraded to CS5 and am outputting to Flash Player 10 this no longer seems to work. The event fires right away. Does anyone know why this might be and if there's an alternative that I can use?I tried the unloadAndStop() method in the parent swf but I'm trying to remove some TweenMax delay timers and it doesn't seem to be working.
