im trying to write a handfull of XML functions in AS2.0and im trying to find a way of getting flash to detectthe number of attributes in a childNode.<item name="aaron" location="sydney" sex="male"/>as in finding out how many of these ^ there are in each itemas to how I would do this? I've tried for...in... statementsand even trying to access them as objects i.e. ...ode[0].attributes["name"]but it never works - I always have to hard code...ode[0].attributes.name

I've been working on a flash presentation for work. It's pretty much a mini-site with links to PDF's files and DOCS for distributors. I am feeding everything from an XML file so we can easily update this presentation for our other products.
I've run into a problem on the last part of this swf and I can't seem to get the proper syntax to get this working properly. I am looping through the childNodes and creating MC and filling with data. I can loop through the first set of childNodes no problem. But its when one of these first set childNodes has a set of childNodes itself, I cant pair up that data with it's parent on the flash movie.
So here's my XML:

In flex/actionscript 3, I can call node.attribute("somename") and get the value of the "somename" atribute of the node. I can also call node.attributes() and get the VALUES of ALL the attributes. But how the heck do I know what attributes to look for?! The application I am creating does not know the format of the XML file in advance. I need a way to know the NAMES of the attributes of the nodes, before I can access them by name!

I've got a few input text fields and a submit button on an order form I've designed. Trouble is you can only order in multiples of 2. Naturally I have a warning stating that orders must be multiples of that number but there is always room for idiocy! Lets say my order input text box is called "order" and the button used to proceed to payment is called "submit". How do I detect an ODD number entry and have it run an mc called "warning"?

I'm working on a delivery costing system for my company using postcode input from users
For you non Brits out there UK postcodes work on two blocks of 2-4 characters each.
L2 2HH - Liverpool central
M24 2TN - suburb of Manchester
IV56 7NQ - outter Inverness
You get the idea. So the first part of a UK postcode, wether it be 2 characters or 4 characters MUST have atleast one numeric and one non-numeric character in it. How do I detect this?
At the moment I've just got my CHECK POSTCODE button to run a few functions only if my POSTCODE (input text) field length it greater or equal to 2 characters. So how do I easily detect an input of numeric and non-numerical characters without having to resort to indexOf ...a...b...c...1...2...3...?

I am dynamically creating a number of objects (movieclips) which all have a number of attributes.[code]and so on. i.e sub attributes. I don't think this is possible? Only sprite and movieclips can have dynamic attributes so unless atrbY is a movieclip (which it isn't, it's a string) it isn't allowed?Each object can have suboptions with further attributes associated with the chosen suboption.Later in the program I will manipulate, read and interact with the objects and they have text display behaviours dependent on the suboption chosen. That part (should) be straightforward! heh. One the object has the attributes attached in a usable format, accessing them should be simple.This will be for a store. i.e t-shirt1 has size small, price 10, size medium, price 12, size large, price 14. t-shirt2 has size medium, price 35, size large, price 40 and so on.[code]
This format of the XML can be adjusted if it would make the parsing easier.I am currently reading the XML in, stepping through, grabbing the individual parameter such as category and then adding it as an attribute of the object and it works fine. i.e. I end up with obj.category = 'catname'. However, on suboptions I am having a problem.Should I put all the suboptions in a multidimensional array and use nested loops to apply them to the object?I would still have the problem of objX.suboptionarray[Y].suboptionprice which isn't allowed? In the above XML case Y would be 0,1 and 2 giving 3 suboptions to objX and each suboptions would hold attributes such as pvid associated with that suboption.I could go down the horrible route, obj1.suboption1subptionprice ; obj1.suboption1suboptionpname; obj1.suboption1suboptionvalue; obj1.suboption2suboptionprice; obj1.suboption2suboptionpname and so on and so on for each suboption which could be five options (small,medium,large,x-large, xx-large) and which would "work" but would be bad programming and involve splicing names to get say, the "third" suboptions' price and pvid e.t.c
Going down the route of mutidimensional arrays sounds good except that on say 50 objects I would have stacks of arrays which I'm guessing isn't great in terms of resources?.Just to add, the number of suboptions varies between object, every object has a minimum of one suboption (default option) but can have as many as needed (unlikely to be more than 5 but should be scalable). i.e some t-shirts only come in medium whereas some have many sizes.I have a fair amount of leeway on the format of the XML which I generate from the database so the formatting of that could change to make the parsing easier.

I'm trying to work with XML in flash here and ran into an issue. I need to collect all the nodes in an XMLList that contains a certain childnode with a certain value. For example, from the XML below I just want to get the ''product'' nodes that have 1 as a value for ''amount'', i.e product 3 and 5.
And it's not a typo for product 3... ;(

I've horizental images scroller added on my website using xml and actionscript 2.0. All images loaded perfectly and the scrolling function works great too but the main problem is that in actionscript all the links are in external flash however i want to use all links in internal flash using actionscript on all those images so that i can get the flash popup window from there on.I'm not able to find a method to link those images in actionscript to use flash functions. im working on a flash file where im loading a title, description and image from an xml file.
im using this tutorial from Kirupa [URL] and have everything working fine. my only problem is I can't seem to figure out how to load a specific childnode when clicking a button. right now when the user clicks a button, it loads the next or previous childnode using this code

Inside my code i have some variables declared as Numbers, and i get some others from an external source; these variables can either be Numbers or String representation of Numbers. Now, i have to implement some equality controls on these variables, and since i don't know in that moment which type are them of, i'm converting all of them to Numbers (i don't need and neither want to compare strings) via the Number() function which accepts either Numbers or Strings as an input.
