ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Placement Of Movieclips On Stage?

what I'm trying to do is attach instances of a movieclip on stage, one by one, so they form a shape similar to one of examples below...(each dot would be a movieclip)I know I should do it using loops and probably sin/cos math methods, but am not sure where to even star

ActionScript 2.0 :: [MX] Dynamic MC Placement

Oct 13, 2003

is it possible to get an uh... "absolute" X and Y for _root.dropDown1MC.listMC.item? As is stands, I'm placing dropDown2MC on the stage using the following code: [AS]_root.attachMovie("dropDown2", "dropDown2", 30, {_x:_xmouse, _y:_ymouse});[/AS] and that gets it on the stage, but it doesn't function as I need it. In a perfect world, I'd like to place dropDown2MC at the X and Y of item, BUT, there is a mask to only show a certain area of listMC (it's how I'm making a scrollable dynamically populated list).

So, is there a way to get some sort of absolute value, relative to root or something, of item's X and Y coordinates? Sorry if this is a bit complicated... I'm trying to be as clear as possible, but you know how hard that can be when you're connected to Flash directly though a firewire cable to the brain

so i have a document class with added_to_stage handler, and when i get access to stage is there a difference between: having few movieclips on the stage ready for use, or pulling these same movieclips from the library? is there a reason why i should be pulling them from the library (and i dont mean multiple instances, just single item of each) when i can "leave" them on stage and get them directly?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Random Placement On Stage / With Rotation Taken Into Account?

Jun 19, 2009

It is a simple matter to place your object in a random place on the stage and not have it hanging over the edge, like so:[code]But for some reason I am having great difficulty coming up with a solution to how the random placement might work once the object has been rotated. and the registration point is no longer in the global upper-left corner. This might be easy if the rotation was a fixed # but I am rotating randomly along the whole spectrum.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Dynamic XML Buttons Size And Placement With Masking?

Dec 3, 2011

what I am doing is making an XML menu for a website. Each button has a background and and over-state background. The backgrounds are 9 sliced scaled movie clips, well the over-state background is set up to mask an animation movie clip that is larger than any button will be. The mask is 9 slice scaled and is always the same size as the regular background. These backgrounds are x-scaled in a function in the Button.as. The title passed in through the XML determines the width. All of this so far works perfectly.

Now a navigation movie clip processes and adds all of the button movie clips based on the amount of nodes in the XML, this also sets the X and Y coordinates as well as sets a "spacer" between the buttons. Here is my problem, every time the function runs to create a new button, it sets the x value at:

Code: Select allbutton.x = this.width;

This is great if I don't use the mask though. What happens since the movie clip I am masking in the over-state background is wider than the buttons are is that there is wayyy to large of a gap. When each button is added, actionscript sees the width of the button with everything in it, masked or not. So I've tried a for-loop in the button creating function to increment a number variable from 0 - the max number of buttons in the XML. I then want to set the x value to:

Code: Select allbutton.x = (button.background.width * i);

This is the background of the button that has the correct width that actionscript should be using. By multiplying it by the i variable, it should move the x right with every button. Unfortunately it's not working.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Printing Dynamic Text Field - Placement Different On Screen And Printed Page?

I'm trying to print an MC that is on screen with a dynamic text field in the MC - its printing just fine but the placement of one of the elements is off. Basically I have a dynamic text field centered on the stage, however when I print it, the text field moves to the very right on the printed page, while the rest of the contents of the MC stay centered. To clarify on the printed page I basically have this nice page with centered text, but the dynamic textfield is moved all the way to the right of the page.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Send Data From Dynamic Text Field On Stage To Dynamic Textfield In Mc?

Sep 28, 2010

I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.

-input1 is for quantity

-input2 is for page count

When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Have Several Different Movieclips On The Stage

Apr 12, 2011

I'm having a hard time trying to accomplish this. I want to have several different movieclips on the stage, either added there when making the fla or dinamically created through AS3 and I want them to be controlled by a certain function. I read the blue circle tutorials on this site but I'm not sure I got it right I have done something similar to this (not posting the real thing because it's not in English and too long):

public class blabla
private var variable1
private var variable2

[Code].....

I'm not sure what to do to have the function work with different movieclips using different arguments. I could change this for an instance name, for example, but then I would have to do a function for each mc and that wouldn't make any sense. It would be cool if I could give the instance name as an argument but I don't think that's possible.

ActionScript 2.0 :: MovieClips On Stage - Get Instance Name (Box)

Feb 3, 2009

I have one MC on stage with instance name "box". That MC duplicates by using this script:
Code:
duplicateMovieClip (box, newname="box2", this.getNextHighestDepth());
box2._x = xPoz;
box2._y = yPoz;
So the new MC is now called "box2".

Inside original MC "box", I have one button. After click on that button, I need to know on which MC I clicked. box, or box2. I tried to use:
Code:
trace (this._name);
But, that get me only instance name of the button.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Using AttachMovie To Add MovieClips To Stage?

Sep 30, 2009

I have a file where movie clips are added to the stage at random time intervals and locations. How do I get pieces of code to effect all the created movie clips? At the moment I'm using attachMovie to add the movie clips to the stage. Once a movie clip is added I want to add three actions to it: the first makes it so that clicking on the movie clip will remove it from the stage, the second makes the movie clip move in a random direction across the stage, and the third makes it so that when the movie clip reaches the end of it's own timeline it performs an action then removes itself.

Changing Order Of Movieclips On Stage?

Nov 21, 2010

What is the best way of changing the order of the movieclips because they overlap sometimes? eg.

mc_a is on the stage already
mc_b is called on stage using addChild

Can I change the order of mc_a using script even though it was already on stage?

Can I remove mc_a off stage using script?

How do add mc_b under mc_a so that mc_b does not overlap mc_a?

Flash :: MovieClips On Stage Disappear?

Jan 30, 2012

I am creating a miner game (where there are pieces of gold and you have to catch them with hook).I modified the Main class to take all children of MovieClip(root) that has name "Gold" and them put them in an Array(boulders[]) where later check collision (I design and put on stage several "Gold" MovieClips for every level). When the player collects all gold (when the boulders array.length <= 0) then goToAndStop(nextLevel), where again it takes the gold MovieClips from the stage and if it's name is == "Gold" then put's it in the boulder[].

What happened: On the first level(frame 2 cause frame 1 is the preloader) everything is good - I have 2 gold MovieClips on the stage(in design mode) and all 2 gold are put in the array and displayed.

On the second level I have 4 gold and only 2 of them are put in the array and displayed.

On the third level I have 7 golds designed on stage, but only 3 are displayed and put in the boulder array.

It's almost the previous count of the gold(on the previous frame) are subtracted from the count of the next frame gold movieclips.I am placing the Main.as code:

public function createLevel(){
nextLevel = this.currentFrame + 1;
for (var i:uint = 0; i < MovieClip(root).numChildren; i++){[code]....
