ActionScript 2.0 :: Get An Effect By Which An Object (eg. The Letter "A") Is Simulated
Feb 10, 2004
i'm trying to get an effect by which an object (eg. the letter "A") is simulated to be drawn/rendered pixel by pixel, or something of a mosaic effect.
the only method i can think of is to arrange squares to fit my object shape and then load them one by one using actionscript, but due to the size of my squares the image turns out not very precise. (in other words, ugly)
i could ofcourse lower down the size of each square, but that's going to be very tedious and i dont really have that kind of time...
is there any specific code i could use? (newbie at actionscript here, dont know more than just the basics)
I'm trying to get the effect of letters cycling randomly until it gets to the correct letter and then stops...so you can have a word cycle randomly until it creates the word you want.how can I achieve that in MX
I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g
I have a combo box that I'm trying to enter a letter for to search values for that particular letter and I keep getting this error. Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findStringLoop()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7715] at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findString()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7700]
I'm trying to create an RPG-like game text effect where the text string is displayed letter by letter, like a typewriter.Here's my code:
Actionscript Code: function doSomething(number){ var errors:Array = new Array(); errors[0] = "The specified file could not be located."; errors[1] = "Another error"; var
In many RPG games, messages appear in textboxes letter by letter (usually accompanied by a repetitive beeping). I've been trying to simulate this in Flash for a game I've been working on in AS2. When it comes to programming, I'm fairly new and so far, the best I've got is this:
var num:Number = 0; var s:String = "This message will appear."; function onEnterFrame():Void {
in a nut shell I have found this wicked piece of open source actionscript.
It responds to the cursor and was wondering if it is posible to modify the x_position and y_position actions and make the action respond to a moving object???? (a movieclip with a variable name)
is this to complicated to attempt or is it doable??
I am a newby trying to create an animation in CS4 AS3 which simulates a gas explosion in a test chamber. I have a button that when clicked will produce a simulated spark inside the chamber which then will snowball into a gas explosion if the variables are correct.
Does anyone know how to create a simulated explosion in CS4 AS3 ?
how a download is simulated to be able to test the preloader. I tried view>Download settings as stated in the help file, but I couldn't find download settings under view. My Flash version is "flash CS3 provessional, version 9"
I want to have arm movement such as the forearm rotating about the arm where the elbow should be the problem is the registration point is at the shoulder for arm. I want the forearms registration to be constantly equal to a simulated registration point where the elbow should be as the arms registration point would be at the shoulder. I need to do it without nesting (a movieclip within another) is it possible. I tried using a constant distant between the two clips but it doesn't work. Don't know I have to use trigonometry or not
I think in brief what I trying to accomplish is onEnterFrame=function(){ arm._x=shoulder._x arm._y=shoulder._y arm._x=simulated_x (where elbow would be) arm._y=simulated_y (where elbow would be) }
I created a movie clip (mcPopup), deleted it from the stage, and set it to export for ActionScript. I then set up the movie to attatch the clip to the stage and then load a JPEG image into it. Now, I need to be able to let the viewer dismiss the popup, but I cannot figure out how to add an event listener to the movie clip. I tried several different ways, but the popup doesn't seem to be clickable and doesn't respond to clicks (perhaps the image is in the way?) Here is what I have for the code for the thumbnail the visitor clicks to open the popup:
on (release) { _root.attachMovie("mcPopup", "popup_mc", _root.getNextHighestDepth());
I'm looking to create a rotating set of images, simulated to look 3D... that can rotate either left or right, reactive to someones mouse location.
The path of the images would look like a flat oval, and as the images came to the forefront, they would be at full scale, have the lowest position (high _y), have the highest depth (appear in front of everything else) and be dead center _x.
As they slide left or right, they would reduce everything by a relative 50% to the final shift (scale, _y, and depth) until they got to the end, moving in an upward arc following the oval path. When they got to the end, and kept rotating beyond (move in the opposite _x. but appear to follow the flow of the arc), continuing to decrease in scale, _y, and depth.
i have a set of buttons cranked out from and XML file. how can i emulate, in code, a press on one of those buttons? i'd like to 'press' one of them for an initial state so that the list it controls will load first off instead of waiting for the person to click it manually and THEN show the list it's connected to. thing is, the first loaded list is going to be random, so i need to 'press' what on another day/load would be a button that the user would press themselves.
in other words, i have 3 buttons. on random, i have to 'press', say button 2, to start. users can press 1 or 3 and then 2 again if they like. another time, it's button 1 that gets 'pressed' on load, etc. make sense? i have a sneaking suspicion it might be easy... or stupidly convoluted.
i have an object (like square or something) and i need to animate it's decomposition and motion tween parts away. What would be the best approach to do that? My initial idea was something like: if this object is an image, maybe there is a BitmapData method that allows me to cut off a certain part of it so that i can save that part as movie clip and then tween it away?
I arrange all my panels side by side by using the design view in flex builder. But when I actually run it. One panel will actually be slightly taller than what I see in flex builder and overlap aother panel. I tried to refresh in design function, but still no change. What should I do?
I wondering if one of you experts would be able to explain to me or refer me to a video that would show me how to create the following effect.I have an image of a glass beaker on stage. When the user presses a button I want the beaker to shatter into a whole bunch of peaces. Is this possible using AS3.
Is there any way in flash 8 to creat feather effect for an object? (As there is a tool in photoshop: for a selection we can apply feather effect (from select - feather) after copy that selection to another place we gt feather effect).
I would like to make a mouse-over effect on an object. The mouse-over effect should work like this: when the mouse cursor is dragged over the object it should glow, but if the mouse cursor remains over the object it should still glow, but another mouse over effect should occur, showing an info box for the object. Until now I have just made the object as a button, and in the "over" box I have made the object glow, by defining it as a movie clip. However, this only works for the glow part. How do I add another mouse-over effect (which is delayed 1 sec) to the same object?
How do I make it so when I click an object, that object has an effect placed on it, using ambiguous programming, so I don't have to program each item individually.
I have created a textFormat object and applied to Dynamic text field, but I do not see the effect. Am I missing something? I have a section of the code belo. fields[h] is actually a dynamic text field in the case below. As you can see I have assigned the arial as a font and red color as its color. But when I run the movie, it has no effect at all. But if I trace the textFormat as below i can see arial and 0xff0000 (in decimal) in console.
i have a simple .fla here which by using masks appears to "draw" a wavy box... (kinda choppy, just made it fast for example), what i am wondering is if there is a same way to achieve this effect through actionscript (not just draw a box, but to reveal any picture or shape, for a "drawing effect")[URL]. i'm kinda newish to AS, not much more then basics.
I am new on AS3, I try to wrote an as3 file to add shadow effect on an object, it work fine, however I can't remove that effect by removeEventListener. AS3 file and FLA enclose.
i am trying to create a trail behind an object - like a mouse trailer. i have found many mouse trailer scripts but do not know what to adjust so that it will follow an object/symbol...
know if the index effect the scope of an object because I am creating a game and for some reason, I get an error like below
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at com.objects::Torret/updateObject() at com.objects::EngineApi/loop()
[Code].....
updateObject is the loop for all my objects. I have one centralized loop and in that loop it calls on an array of objects that have been placed on the stage. all of them containing the method updateObject. to update the status of the object. addGameChild() is a encapsulated addChild() , that not only adds the object to the stage, but places it in a array so it's updateObject() method can be called on. it is also used to make it easier for garbage collection.
I have a div with a flash object in it. That div is going to pop up in a modal triggered when a user clicks a thumbnail of the flash presentation. The problem occurs when I try to use the scale effect to scale in or out, it errors out.
Here is the HTML: <div id="modal"> <object id="presentation" width="720" height="576" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="[URL]" align="middle"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value=" video.swf" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> [Code] ......
