ActionScript 2.0 :: Passing Parameters With A Mouse Event On A Button

Jul 22, 2009

I would like to pass Parameters to a functions from a button click. Currently I need to call a function that in turn passes the Parameters.

example
gardengate_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick_gardengate);
function onClick_gardengate(e:MouseEvent):void{
/*Sends the xml and the paintingCount_Numb to the parseXML function.
This will display the text and images for each painting
*/
ParseXML(xmlData,0);
}

I would think that i could just do this but it gives me an error. gardengate_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ParseXML(xmlData,0)); 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type void to an unrelated type Function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding MCs From Event Parameters?

Jun 7, 2010

I'm trying to create a class that will allow me to associate MCs on the stage with MCs in the library. What I'd like to do is pass the linked library item as a parameter when I instantiate the class. For example, I might add an MC named "trigger1" to the stage in my FLA, associate it with the class, and try to pass the linkage ID for the library item it should control:

ActionScript Code:
var newTrig:LibTrig = new LibTrig (trigger1, Target1);
addChild(newTrig);

Add The Parameters ,true And ,false To The Stage Event?

Mar 5, 2010

I am having a problem with stage event listeners in Explorer 7 and up.I place an object, say a circle, on the stage in layer 1. I make it a symbol and give it an instant name of myBall_mc.I add a blank keyframe at frame 25 and create a motion tween moving the circle across the stage.I add a new layer, name it actions and place the following code in the first frame.

stop();
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
function onClick():void[code].....

Works perfectly when testing. Works perfectly when exported to a .swf in Firefox. Doesn't work at all in Explorer 7 and up.If I add a button to the stage and change the event listener to listen for a mouse click on the button, it works perfectly in all browsers.

Now here's the weird part. If I leave the script exactly like I have it above and place a box, the entire size of the stage, over the stage and set its alpha to zero. It works perfectly in all browsers. This is without even changing the event listener from stage to whatever I called the stage covering object.It registers as a stage level mouse click!

I've tried to add imports but this didn't change anything. I tried to add the parameters ,true and ,false to the stage event listener after the function name. Everthting I've tried comes up short. The only thing that works for Explorer browsers is covering the stage with an object.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Pass Parameters To Event Handlers?

Jul 23, 2011

My project has a target object (center of stage) and a moveable object, which is created each time a user presses "Enter". Each movable object is identified as part of an array (i.e., object[i]), and a new line (i.e., line[i]) is dynamically drawn from the center of the newly created object to the center target object.

Basically, as the object is dragged around the screen the line is to stay connected to the target object. Therefore, that specific line for that object being moved must be redrawn using a drawLine function inside the event handler. My issue is how to get line[i] to be identified within the even handler? (Using AS3 coding)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing Parameters To Event Functions?

Dec 16, 2008

I like reusing functions repeatedly so I pass the object to the function (blur, drop shadow, etc.) but if an Event or MousEvent function is involved, I have to do things I don't like. In my example, I had to put the TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE function as a sub function of the setTimer function. I would rather keep the functions apart but I don't know how to pass a parameter to the event function to tell it what movieclip(timerObject) to fade in. Is there a better way to do this?

ActionScript Code:

I believe the error is in the actual featEvent, but can't find where.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Pass Parameters To Event Listeners?

Sep 3, 2009

Suppose I want to create a bunch of buttons using a loop. But I want each button to do something different. Suppose the buttons are numbered and I simply want each button to print out its unique number when clicked. Heres what I have so far:

Code:
var t:CTextField;
for (var i:int = 1; i <= 100; i++) {
t = new TextField();

[code]...

Ive tried many different things to get this to work, but none of them worked so I wont bother posting them all. At best, I got it so every single button traced "button 100 was clicked". I sort of understand why that happened, but I dont know how to make it work properly. Once again, all I could find was people saying "use custom events", but I think I need a lot more details than that. For example, I dont see how changing

Code:
t.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, buttonClicked);
to
Code:
t.addEventListener(MySpecialMouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, buttonClicked);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Passing Parameters To Event Listeners

Sep 28, 2011

I have a 16x16 grid of buttons, and want to add an event listener to each of them so when clicked it will return its unique grid position number (anything between 0-255);

What I have so far:
public static const GRID_SIZE:Number = 16;
private var i:int;
private var j:int;
// Constructor
public function Grid()
[Code] .....

Unfortunately every time the listener function is called by each button, it uses the last two values of i and j, which in this case return 255 for every button.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Event And Variable Parameters Count?

Mar 18, 2010

is it possible to create custom event with variable arguments count? I ask this because currently I use anonymous functions on events with variable parameters count to pass arguments to appropriate function, i.e:

Code:
addEventListener( MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, function(evt:MouseEvent):void{mTBGp( pX, pY, l_w, l_h, isDone )}, false, 0, false );
addEventListener( MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, function(evt:MouseEvent):void{mTBGe( pX, pY, l_w, l_h )}, false, 0, false );

and I don't want to do that because of weakReference.

1. From what I know if I set weakReference to true with anonymous function on in addEventListener GarbageCollector will delete them (and indeed I can see that my code stops to work on random, due to GC "kickin in")

2. When i delete my Object with addEventListener( weakReference = false ) the memory used by addEventListener is not freed ( unconfirmed, please elaborate on that subject also)That's why, from My point of view, usage of custom event is best, but unfortunately I use many addEventListeners with variable parameters count so (in above example 2 listeners. one 5 arg, second 4 arg) is there a way to do something like this? To write event that will take x parameters of any type?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Goto URL On Button Click, With Parameters

Aug 10, 2009

I am trying to make a series of images act like buttons, where each button opens a new browser window with a url of my decision. I have put in the images, converted them to symbols (buttons) and given them an instance name.

Now, the AS3. The following works for me:

Code:
btn_bent.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClickHandler_beton);
function buttonClickHandler_beton(Event:MouseEvent):void {
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.hattingks.dk/Default.aspx?ID=6587&ProductID=9866200&VariantID=&GroupID=vogne"));
}

But I wouldn't want to make a new function for each button. I have tried to extend the function to take two parameters like:

Code:
buttonClickHandler_beton(Event:MouseEvent, www:String):void

ActionScript 3.0 :: Link The Button Event To The OnEnterFrame() Event?

Oct 29, 2009

When you click on a button and the animation is supposed to play foward or reverse based on which year the user is currently on and which they are selecting. Going forward is no problem However I don't know how to link the button event to the onEnterFrame() event so that when I use the prevFrame(), it will play in reverse at the same frame frequency as going foward. This is the code I have now.It goes back to the frame that it's supposed to, but the animation is not at the same speed as going forward. I goes back as fast as the code can loop.

function frm94to93 (event:Event):void{  while (currentLabel != "Frame1993"){  trace(currentFrame); prevFrame();  }
