Jul 13, 2011I'm using YQL to try and find band photos for a project I'm working on. If an image is found, it is returned in an XML response, and my flash code posts it. But if one is not found, I'm not quite sure how to tell flash not to do anything. Here's my code:

Let's say the user has played a Flash game, packaged as an EXE or SWF embedded in HTML stored on the user's computer, not from some webpage, and would like to register the score by completing a simple form with just an e-mail address and pressing a button.
Would it be possible to do it even thought the Flash application is not on an active webpage?

Date :: Comparing Two Date Values In ActionScript - Compare Whole Day Values?
Sep 4, 2011I need to be able to compare the number of whole days between two dates in ActionScript, is this possible? I'd like to test if one date is 7 days or less after today, and if so is it one day or less (if it's before today this also counts).The workaround I have in place is using the .time part of the date field:

As I say - this is only a workaround, I'd like a permanent solution to allow me to check the number of whole days between 2 dates. Is this possible?
CS3 :: Flash To Display Values From Txt File?
Jul 30, 2009I want to create a Flash movie which displays four numerical values. I am a teacher and the four numbers are pupil teampoints gained during the week in class. Each friday I want to open the Flash movie and the four numbers to be displayed with a bit of music in the background for dramatic effect!I want the Flash movie to retrieve the four numbers from a txt file located in the same folder as the movie. I want this as other teachers at my school will then be able to come along and change the totals without having to fiddle around in Flash, and also so that the values can be entered before the children arrive in class. Is this possible? I think there are functions in Flash that retrieve information from txt files but I am not sure!

Apr 13, 2010Flash receives the XML, but the values are wrong. How do I fix this? Problem I can see the XML loaded with no errors, but my output is way off. It's as though it's not receiving any values. Numbers in the output window and animation move rapidly. The Flash file runs as if it's variables where set to zero. I changed the order of my code, but that didn't help with this. how I can correct this.

your problem is that you're calling myLoader.load() and adding an event listener to wait for the xml to finish loading, but you're then immediately setting var delay:uint = 0; and var repeat:uint = 0; and starting the timer. you can see this in your results by the 1, XML, 2, 3, 4 output. the load call is asynchronous so it returns immediately. you need to wait until your processXML function is called before proceeding to the next step.
Flash : Grab Values From The Querystring
Jun 23, 2010I need to grab values from the querystring and inject them into a getURL(""); snippet that's in the on (release) {} for a button.So if the URL that contains the embedded swf is

*Edit: I need to snag the querystring because I don't have access to the embed code. It's being rendered by a third party (Articulate) and loaded into a frame. I do have access to the code that renders the frame html, which is why I figured query string would be the best route, and one button that's used in the presentation.
Note, I live in C# land, not ActionScript land so I most likely butchered the syntax. I just need to get this button working as a one off and I'll probably never deal with it again.BTW, I've seen the abdulqabiz QueryString object that's floating around out there but it kind of seems like overkill, like there should be something baked into the framework for this. Aug 5, 2011I know the title may be funny for you but I am actually facing it. My page has a checkbox and textbox. I have a flash control (not developed by and so I don't have it's code) and a button inside that control. When the button is clicked inside flash control it causes redirection(or may be postback) to the same page but the values typed the user in textbox and checkbox are no longer available. They are lost! How can I handle this stuff? I am pulling my hair apart. I don't even the source code of that control

Aug 13, 2009I need to ask your advice, I am developing a site where music is uploaded by unsigned bands.I would like the player to be developed in flash.I would want an area where you can search for music and also would like the user to be able to generate play lists when they are logged in.I was going to put the filenames into the database and use PHP to grab them and display them and then use JavaScript to pass the values into the flash player.But I think this will not work on the play list.So should I get the list of tracks using PHP and use Flash to display them?Or should I be using XML and not put the filenames in the database or even both.I have spent a bit of time Googling this and thinking about how I am going to attack this so my question to you guys is what would be the most efficient way of doing this.

Sep 24, 2007I'm making a Flash invitation to a party, and I want to send it via e-mail.So I want to pass a variable to Flash in the URL like this:

Flash contains a list of people invited to the party. So when Flash reads nameID = 23 it shows the name linked to # 23.E.g. "Dear Thomas, please come to my party bla bla bla..."This way I only have to change the nameID in the e-mails I send.

basically extracting the value from the "category" tag. This is based on the XML Slideshow gallery tutorial on Kirupa. There doesn't seem t be anything wrong with my XML file as all the images load up as it should. The values of the category tag is either A, B, C or D. I traced (category[p]) and got the correct value tagged with the image in XML to show up in Output, but I can't seem to use that in an if statement like

Dec 8, 2009I've got an xml file that contains some data (which will be created by an external file later on in the project) and i want to be able to check the data in that XML file against a variable stored in flash.
If the value in the XML is equal to or greater than the value in the variable i want to jump to a different frame. If the xml value is less that the variable value i want it to stop and tell the user a message. i've included my code below. I just cant get it to work. Regardless of if the value in the XML file is higer or lower than the variable in flash, it always continues to the final frame instead of stopping accordingly.

Flash Sliders To Effect Numerical Values?
Feb 11, 2011I used to use flash years ago, and have only recently come back to it in my course in university so im very rusty.
What i am looking to do is in flash create two sliders where the user can slide along to their shoe size, and their weight, so that as they do that, the numbers in two other boxes will periodically change to help indicate what size snowboard they need to get.
eg. as user makes shoe size slider go along to larger sizes, at certain points the number in a box labelled board width will increase.
also as an added touch I would like a character to actually increase in size as the slider is used, I'd imagine for this I would need to have a movieclip of the character getting bigger and allow the slider to progress through the frames of this movieclip.
