Feb 25, 2011I'm stuck with defining a getURL function while loading an external XML file.
I have a Flash AS2.0 file and I've made it CMS driven. The content for everything in the SWF file is loaded from an XML file which resides on the same server. I've defined all other XML variables and I'm able to successfully parse them inside a holder MC I have in my Flash file. Some of the many variables I have are name, caption, thumbnail img, large img, etc... I've also defined the XML file with a 'Link' that points to a URL relative to each image it loads.
I'm unable to define the function in Flash to retrieve the URL from 'Link' parsing value stored in my XML file.
I tried defining a function called getLink in actions layer of my Flash file:
getLink = function () {
getURL('Link[ID]','_blank');
};
The ID is loaded in the beginning of the Flash file - based on the number of values available in XML file. All other functions work, except this getURL function.

Jul 23, 2009I'm currently building a website that contain different game. each game is an external swf. I'm auto-preloading it while displaying textual stuff in order to have a minimum of preloading time.
Everything work well but imagine I've got 5 external swfs. If I decide to close one game and remove the loader child, when I click back to view this game, I have to reload it again.
So, is there a problem (memory or performance) if I do not delete my 5 loader childs in order to lead them only 1 time?

Apr 22, 2007I am trying to get a nav button in one movie (main_nav.swf) to target a my main movie (index.swf) and load a sub nav movie (metals_subnav_infinite.swf) into it. The sub nav movie will do a similar task - loading a portfolio swf into main movie (index.swf). May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Mar 30, 2011I'm currently writing a client in ActionScript 3 that talks to a Red5 application/media server via a NetConnection object. The server sends the client multiple types of data over this connection including video, audio and remote procedure calls. After an indeterminate amount of time (sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes 10 minutes) I see the following error in a popup window from my Debug version of the Flash client:"Error: Error #2030: End of file was encountered."
I'm in the process of trying to figure out what's causing this error and the thing that's really driving me nuts is that I can't seem to catch it. I realize that the error probably indicates some low-level network read failing, but the fact that it generates a popup window in the debug flash player implies that I should be able to catch it.Since the error has no associated stack trace, I went so far as to add the an uncaught exception handler on my base Sprite object:

My uncaught exception handler will get called properly if I purposely throw in some errors, but it never gets called when this Error #2030 happens.How the heck can I catch this "End of file was encountered" error and deal with it in code? If I can't catch it, are there any thoughts on what's causing it and how I fix that? I've narrowed it down to having to do with RPC calls being made from my server to my client because when I disable those, but leave audio & video, I don't see the issue. Unfortunately, I don't yet have any good ideas beyond that.

Actionscript 1.0 :: Load External Swf File To Parent Swf File?
Mar 27, 2011i'm building a website using flash. i have a external swf file that i want to import into my website. i thought this would be an easy task but for some reason when i load the movie, it flickers. my website (parent swf) was build using 1.0. The external form swf was build using 3.0. My approach:
1.create an empty movie clip called mcForm
2.go to the mc clip page i want to pull the external movie into
3. within my actions layer, I call the following function loadMovie("main.swf", mcForm);
If i write:
LoadMovieNum("main.swf",0);
then the my main.swf opens correctly but closes the parent swf file. I wan the main.swf file to be embeded within the parent file.

May 16, 2003I did a quick search to find how to load a swf into an already playing swf with a getURL action. Is this possible? Like loading a jpg but I want to load a swf. Does that make sense?Say I have an empty mc in my swf and want to call a swf from an absolute address, like

I have not tried it yet 'cause I'm at work (no flash here) but I was talking to someone . . . about creating a logo once and then just calling it from one location (site by subQuark). That way I only need to update it in one place for html sites (as I do now) or for all flash sites (which I do per site now).
