Apr 9, 2011Using AS3.0, how do I load an external swf file when I click a button? Also, how can I get rid of that swf file when I click a different button on a menu?

Jun 26, 2009I was getting in to transitioning from AS2 to AS3 a while back and had designed a page that had menu buttons that when clicked, loaded an external swf in to a container. Pretty simple accept for the fact that it was a while ago and my computer crashed so I'm having to redo this and learn it all over again. I have read in to flash on the subject but I am not to sure on the best way to go about this. I know there are a lot of people on here who make thing a lot more simple and structured than I do. I'm so used to putting the actionscript on the button and I'm a little stuck on the best way to combine the actionscript for the button and loading the swf. I would need to make a button load an external swf in to a container when clicked? I figure I just need one and then I can copy it to all the other menu buttons.

Feb 23, 2011I am loading swfs into a movie clip. However, the contact button is not a loaded swf any longer. It's in the main flash page. This is what I want to do. All the buttons load the external swfs except when I click on the contact button that is in the main flash page. I need to get the other buttons to load after I click the contact flash button. Apr 22, 2007I am trying to get a nav button in one movie (main_nav.swf) to target a my main movie (index.swf) and load a sub nav movie (metals_subnav_infinite.swf) into it. The sub nav movie will do a similar task - loading a portfolio swf into main movie (index.swf). Here is the file breakdown of my working files:index.swf - main final movie which loads "main_nav_infinite3.swf" on startmain_nav_infinite3.swf - loads main nav "main_nav.swf" and scrolls it infinitely (infinite menu)main_nav.swf - main nav with buttons that trigger sub nav "metals_subnav_infinite.swf" to load into index.swfmetals_subnav_infinite.swf - loads sub nav "metals_subnav.swf" and scrolls it infinitelymetals_subnav.swf - sub nav with buttons that trigger "folio.swf" (have not created this file yet!) to load into "index.swf"The script I was focusing on is in main_nav.fla and it is:

May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

The external swf has code that plays an flv, i've pasted the code below for the button that navigates the play head to the fram label 'frame2'. I want to know, how can i unload the external swf after each button click? Does the code for unloading have to go to in the button code or the main timeline?

Load Dynamic Text After Button Click?
Apr 13, 2010I am making a site where each page has a 'mini menu' and when you click on each item you get different text, problem is, I am having real trouble loading my text in, I have tried loads of different tutorials and there always seems to be errors.
I also know for a fact that as soon as i actually get this working, some other error will come up when I want to make the text change (or another text box to become visible) when you click the menu item.
I have attached an image of a page from my site, hopefully someone will be able to work out what i mean from this description, there is more info as comments in my actions window.

I've got 5 layers:Background, title, menu, main contents, Actions.I have an empty movieclip that I call "contents-main". And it is placed in the proper location.On Frame 1 of the Actions panel, I have loadMovie("760-250-main.swf", "contents-main"); This works fine and loads the movie into the empty clip.On the menu layer, I have a button. What I want to do is click on that button and havea different movie load into the movieclip called "contents-main". I have tried everything on the tutorials that I can find and nothing will work.I also tried putting different variations and also putting the unloadMovie before loadMovie statement.

When I do the same, it's even faster.

Feb 27, 2006if you open up the TEST.swf you can see how I want my transition to look like.. everything works perfectly.. then if you open the Load.swf and click one of those red buttons.. it loads up the external swf.. but if you click another button it loads up the same external thing.the difference between Load.swf and TEST.swf is that in Load.swf is container in which the TEST.swf is loaded..

May 14, 2010I am trying to close on as I am attempting to get this incorporated into my website. It came with the recommendation to try the CS5 today to see if this will meet the requirement at the moment.There is a desire to take custom SWF files (I think there is something called Swish files too?) from various sponsors for advertisement purposes and place them on my website.The implementation was straight-forward to make them work through the webserver.I tried a custom example of making a button that upon mouse click would open up a new webpage in CS5 which did work for me.My problem is since the SWF files are finalized, there is no way to put URL information into those files.After doing a lot of searching around today, it appears that the best way to redirect a user upon click of a video is to:
1) Open up a new Flash
2) Import the SWF video file into the project
3) Create a Invisible Button over top the SWF video so when the user clicks, they are redirected to a specific URL.
But for some reason, when I tried to overlay it with a sample SWF file I imported, there was all this flickering going on to where both were made transparent to one another on the screen not to mention the video wasn't even visible at all.My hope was that the SWF video could be seen clearly while the button remained invisbile to handle the click on the video.Is there someone on the forum that is able to guide me fairly quickly with a fast-path procedure so that I can try this?
