ActionScript 2.0 :: Insert Animated MovieClip Into Button?

I am trying to make a button, when you rollOver it, animation start to play. I try to insert animated movieClip into button, but in Flash 8 you can't do that.
I have try with ActionScript to call the animation to play when mouse is over, but also nothing.
Can somebody give me code or where can I found some button, when you go over it with mouse, that animation start to play.
Im using an animated movieclip to create a pulldown menu..the thing is that I want to anymate the buttons inside the pulldown as well..so I therefore used a similar movieclip inside the pulldown menu to make this animation
I made a little movieclip animation, it can be seen on [URL]. I have written the code for it but then have realised that I need to insert a link to the images, each image is supposed to have its own link. When I go to insert a button flash somehow decides to ignore part of the code I wrote and not function properly therefore I cannot have a link and a working animation going on at the same time. The worst thing is that I need to put two separate links in the same movie clip. Is there any way of doing it so it wont disturb the code? or maybe is there a way to insert a link to the images?
The problem is,i dont know how to insert button into movieclip (draggable map) i've tried by inserting the button straight away into the movieclip,but when i play the map, the button cant function.
This is the third thread I've written for my current project (1st was answered perfectly, 2nd failed [but I still figured it out anyways]) but I'm not sure if there is a solution to this problem. I can't really explain my problem, so once again I've included a helpful animation to show you what I mean. Bear in mind that the pale-blue box represents the movie clip's borders, and those borders are usually changed to include the animation (instead of the borders moving with the animation, the borders get bigger).
For the animation problem, I've already got a solution: create an invisible movie clip that has the exact size and shape of the animated movie clip and make it follow the movie clip as it animates, and make the hitTest check the invisible movie clip instead of the animated one. As for the rotation problem, well, I don't know how to fix it. Is there a way to change that?
I'd like some help on using a variable in a path to a MovieClip. I have a menu with 4 tabs. When I click on one I want it to open and the previous one to close.
I'm storing the previous tab as a variable (_previousTab) but am having trouble adding the variable to the path to the MovieClip of the previous tab. The error Flash gives me is:

If I replace the variable _previousTab with the name of the MovieClip it works fine. I'm thinking it's something to do with the variable being a String perhaps?? Also, the trace statements return the desired MovieClip names.
I was wondering, how would I insert a link into a MC/Button?
See, I made an MC that has a Button inside of it for a website. All is well exept I dont know how to insert the link to make it go to another page from the website?
Goal: Now, I want to be able to drag and drop this character movieclip around the stage as I please, leaving him wherever I want, with all of his movements still going on AND the mouseover movements as well.Logic: Since, when the mouse is over this character, I need the drag option area to be a little x or any object close to him, so it doesnt interfere with the movieclips mouse over effects. (could simply be a little rectangle saying: drag me)Problem: Iave no idea how to do this... I am only now starting with this Actionscript world! I have a problem concerning the size of an animated MovieClip.What I want to do is drawing a frame (.graphics.drawRect(...), etc.) around a loaded image file. This works well on loaded images that are static, no matter if it is a jpg, png or a non-animated swf.However, if I load a swf that is animated, its width and height properties are simply wrong. Much too small. They are, however, always the same wrong values for the same animated swf.I also tried with getBounds and getRect on the loaded swf (which I put in as a MovieClip), with the same results.What's up with this and how can I get the real size of the swf?
What we could do would be to insert a fully transparent layer into each swf that would define its size. That would hopefully make the MovieClip always have the correct size. But I would prefer a working way during runtime that workaround works, but I'd still prefer a way that does not involve additional work for our artists (minimal as it might be).
I have in 'Scene 1' a movieclip that is animated in actionscrpt and when I jump to 'Scene 2' everything disappears except this movie clip... I want the movie clip to disappear to... How can I do it?
I am using Flash CS3 to create a button for a site I am building in Dreamweaver CS4. The button I am trying to create looks like a volume knob on a guitar amp. I need it to point to zero and then "turn up to 10" over a period of 3 seconds when the user hovers over it. It also needs to play a sound. I have created seperate images in photoshop for the knob pointing at each increment 1-10. I added these to a new Flash doc on separate layers. Saved it and it plays as expected when in preview. However I cannot figure out how to get it set in a button. I have created simple buttons but not one that "plays a longer animation" like this.
i am trying to create an animated button, using a Movie Clip.
1. I create a Rectangle with a fill.
2. I convert it to a Symbol (Movie)3. Double Click on the graphic to create it's on Timeline.4. Why do i then need to convert to a symbol again?It will not animate unless i convert that timeline button again.
I am trying to dynamically address different instances of the same movieclip by passing a string into the movieclip address, but apparently I don't know what I'm doing. I'm trying something like below:

Is something like this possible? What am I doing wrong/what do I need to do to make that work?
I have created a animated movieclip in flash named xena, it was working fine but as soon as i created a "xena.as" class in the same folder where original ".fla" was stored, the animated movieclip stopped playing, & when i tried to play it in my actionscript panel by pressing F9, in the way
i'm trying to create a animated button, when I roll over the button the movie plays and when i roll out of the button the movie continues playing animating back to its first position.The problem is it only works one time,if you roll over a second time over the movieclip the animation doesn't work again.
I have been trying to add a link to an animated button. I have it as a symbol for button and within the button symbol I have another movie clip symbol for the mouse over it will animate. I am trying to add a link to the animated button but it won't allow me to add actionscript when I get into the button symbol for the UP, DOWN, OVER, HIT, but it will allow me to add actionscript when I am in the scene. I have tried a few different actionscripts in the scene but it seems there is always an error and the movie clip keeps repeating the movie when I have it only running once, but when I remove the hyperlink actionscript the movie over runs once like I want it to.
I have an 800x800px button within a 800x800 stage, in the up state only 200px of the button are visible, the others 600px remains out of the stage, the over state is a movie clip with a spring-like animation that brings the button to the left to a viewable area of 600 pixels (while now only 200px are left out of the stage). the down state is very the same than the over (without animation, so no changes in size at all).
The problem here is how i set my hit area: if I set it to be the size of the up state then the button works the way it's supposed to work but if i move the mouse just i little to the left (just out of the hit area, remember, same size as the up state) then is considered not to be on the over state so i come back to my initial 200px button. By the way if i set the hit area to match the size of the button once it has completed it animation on over state (600px of viewable button) I fix this issue but then I will click the button even when I'm out of the UP state.It's possible to place a movie clip inside the hit area so that it always mach the motion of the movie clip inside the over state?[URL]This is an early prototype of the site but you'll see what i mean, my buttons are the numbered tabs, when you roll over there you'll see they become animated but i planning to make this animation much more exaggerated and then is when the problem come...
I'm jew to Flash and I'm trying to make an animated button in Flash CS5 that has the ability to turn music on/off. I've followed different tutorials, and right now I'm trying to use an animated movie clip with an "invisible" button over it. I want the animation to swap frames when the button is clicked, and I also want the music to toggle on/off when the button is clicked.For example:When the button is pressed, the animation switches to say "press to turn off music" and the music turns on.But so far, the button isn't working, and the animation won't stop switching frames even when I enter the "stop();" code.Does anyone have any idea how to make it so that the button works together with the animation and music?
I am having a problem creating an animated btn in flash, I simple want it to do fades and blink several times.I have created a movie clip with frames 1-20 where frame 1-10 is in the normal state and 10-20 is the mouse over state with the effects.In my action controls I have a stop on frame 1 and a stop on frame 10 and a gotoAndPlay("Repeat"); on frame 20
I've created an animated button where when you rollover it - a message box appears. My problem is that the button hit area is the whole size of the movie clip (including the message box), so the box will appear even if you haven't rolled over the button.
So basically I want to define the hit area to just the size of the button itself, rather than the whole movie clip.
I just learned how to make a basic slideshow of images where one image shows for 3 seconds and then fades out and then a new one fades in, on and on. I imported my images, converted each image to a movie clip symbol and now they're arranged in my timeline. I need to add a NEW image at the very beginning of the the timeframe. I keep trying to Insert --> Frame, etc., but I'm not seeing a new first position in the timeline where my image will go. I'm used to video editing timelines and Flash is a real challenge for me.
So i am working on a pause menu for my game. I have an inventory box that has slots for weapons, powerups, and other items. I wanted different boxes that are specific to each type of pick-up (weapons, powerups, other). So I drew a box with 3 frames, it is set up similar to tabs in a web browser; click on weapons tab and you see your weapons in your inventory, click on powerups tab and you see the powerups etc...
In each frame I gave the inventory slots different instance names, i.e. in weapons; weaponSlot1, weaponSlot2, and in powerups; powerupSlot1, powerupSlot2.
When the player bumps into an item, i use gotoAndStop('frame number') so that each item is added to the proper inventory slot. the only problem is that if i bump into a key then pause the game, the key is there (under 'Other' tab), but if i click the 'weapon' tab and then go back to 'other', the key is no longer there.
This makes sense because when you click on each tab, i use gotoAndStop('frame number'), and in each frame the inventory slots are blank, so im stumped on how to keep each item in the proper slots?
I am going to i upload all my files in a zip, the main file that you will want to look at is the PauseMenu.as file
Also you will notice 3 public functions called 'checkWeaponSlots', 'checkPowerupSlots', and 'checkOtherSlots'. These are called in my main file, when the player bumps into an item, these functions are called to check which slots are empty.
I am trying to insert and SWF into my webpage. How do I tell the movie to stop at the end, and insert a "play again" button? What do I need to do to insert that into my webpage.
i have few button to let user click and the symbol will insert into the input text. i change my input box to 'symbol' but i facing the problem that i can't insert character other than symbol...
I am currently creating animated buttons that have a movie clip inside them (including tweens). I created a button and copied this six times. I would like to change the colour of each individual button, but when I do this it changes the colours of all the buttons. How can I do this so it changes the individual the colour of a single button.
