ActionScript 2.0 :: Internet Variables - Change The Value Of A Variable On A Webpage
Nov 7, 2008
I have been using AS2 for a while now but am having some trouble when it comes to the internet side, I basically would like to be able to change the value of a varible on a web page or something and use this value on a different computer, like an mmorpg but it does not have to be that fast, I have looked around and am having trouble working it out, I know you can use servers and stuff but I don't want to have my computer running 24/7 so someone else can use it.
I am trying to find a way to embed a live video stream on a webpage accessible via the internet. I have my video server setup so that multicast streaming over my LAN works. The only problem I face now is figuring out how to embed the live video object into my webpage. I am wondering if I could use a converter like ffmpeg and flex to accomplish this? If this is not the right place to post this, just let me know and I'll repost in the proper place.
I am searching how to send variables from a php webpage to a flash animation that it will be integrated into anther webpage ... Little exmple : An user enter his name in an input in a php page then when he clicks submit button his name will be shown in a flash animation
I have just uploaded my site for a recent project submission and coded my own preloader for it.The problem is that when I play the file (swf) locally it works correctly but when uploaded onto the internet the variable % is not loaded so says: loading... NaN%. The thing is that it works correctly other then that, when it is fully loaded the text and the preloader disappears as instructed. It just doesn't put a % into the percentage dynamic text box (which has instance name percentage and variable namepercentage). That is the site and this is the code for the preloader:
I am trying to load variables from my webpage onto my .swf
ActionScript Code: var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES; loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loading);
[code]....
This code works perfect for loading variables in a &var1=1&var2=2& etc...But how can I load variables from the page?like do I need to put in &array_name[incrementing_var]=value& and then when i go to access it it should be loader.data.array_name[0] but this doesn't work for me? I realize my URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES is for variables but can i still pass arrays with this? or do i need a new format? or do i need to pass the values as variables and convert them into an array in my AS?
I have 4 animations and based on the speed of the internet i want it to change between each depending on the speed.
e.g...
0 - 10kb/ps - 1st MC 11 - 30kb/ps - 2nd MC 31 - 50kb/ps - 3rd MC 50+ - 4th MC
My idea is to have like a glass of water... and for the 1st MC the water filling it up is only a drip... and then 2nd MC is a slow stream of water etc etc and then final MC is water gushing in filling the cup up faster until it's full...
I think this might be a bit hard for me... as i can't even make a preloader... everytime i try the SWF file just stays blank until it's fully loaded... haha... but i'll read tutorials and stuff... i'm rather basic with Flash and just learn what i need to learn as i get to it... I also need the transition between each change (say from 1-10kbps - 51+) to be smooth rather than just having it going from a drip to gushing water... but i think i'll just have to make animations for each and then IF statements to deal with that issue..
I have a flash file and I want to be able to hover over it and see the cursor change and when I click I want to be sent to a page I specify on a website.
I've tried "on(release) etc" in ActionScript (although I know nothing!) and it says I need to use NavigateToURL so I tried searching on the Internet and couldn't find anything?
In my .fla file i have several buttons. On my hosting webpage i need to know which button was pressed. I was going to use fscommand which works when passing a variable to a regular form, but I cannot use it when passing to a webpage. How do i establish communication between flash and my hosting C#asp.net webpage?
I am trying to post the score that the player achieves to a database. I have set a web page "highScores.aspx" which gets a query string variable "webScore" and puts it in a database. This works fine as tested in a browser.
The problem I have is getting the correct information into the query string variable. I have:
where the text in question is located inside "form" (which is a movie clip). I've been following this tutorial [URL] and while not really relevant, it's got me further than anything else. The problem with this tutorial is it relies on the user entering text, whereas I am just displaying out the score in some dynamic text. This means that in output I get the following error:
[Code]....
I should point out, I do not need to read the text to get the value as it is stored in a variable beforehand, I just display it to the player via some dynamic text, but I'm not sure how to use this to my advantage.
I want to get a variable from the web-page to pass it into flash, and depending on its value to change the original image of button in flash movie. in html code:
[Code]...
and further code processing 'completely different buttons' when the page is loaded, it shows the top layer of the button (which defaults has value "main"), and only when the cursor is over those 'completely different buttons' (unconnected with the code, besides that they are on the same layer) goes into the right state " clients "
At the end of the movie I would like to check if the user is still connected to the Internet (they maybe on an unstable dial-up connection and lost connection). Is there anyway to do that? I mean, is there a way to check if a user is connected to the Internet using ActionScript?
Im really new to as3, and im just trying out some stuff, but i cant get a shape to refresh and change when i change its variable using a text field. If i change the text fields text before i test it, it works, but while its running it doesnt change it again.Btw, trying to change the stroke size.[code]i just want is so that when i change the strokeSize_txt text box, it will change the stroke for the shape.
I have been banging my head against a brick wall regarding the following problem which must be very simple to fix, just can't see the answer.I have a class assigned to a movieclip called canvas. The class is called drawClass. I have called the instance of canvas on the stage 'drawingCanvas'.When I trace "drawingCanvas" I get object drawClass] which is fine. Tracing drawingCanvas.name gets me the instance name 'drawingCanvas'.This is a String variable.Basically what I am trying to do is pass the MovieClip name to another class. In my example the class 'toolBar', which can then interact with the MovieClip.
The problem is passing 'drawingCanvas.name' results in a String, so I get an error saying :TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "canvasArea" to flash.display.MovieClip.I can't for love or money find a way to convert a String variable to a MovieClip variable! I have the name of the MovieClip, I just need to tell the toolbar class. But I can't find a way of doing this as the instance on stage is an object of drawingClass, not a MovieClip (unless MovieClips with attached classes are not treated as standard MovieClips?).
I'm creating a board game which has 3 variables, p1Move, p2Move and activePlayer. p1Move and p2Move store the p1 and p2 location on a game board. activePlayer stored who's turn it is at the moment.
I am loading a value in from a text file which changes the value of move. This all works fine when i designate a player directly:
so that flash changes the value of p1Move (or p2Move depending on who's turn it is) to varAmount. varAmount is the variable being read from the textfile.
Hopefully that all makes sense. Basically i want flash to change the variable associated with the active player only.
I'm new to AS3 and programming in general and thought I could find some help here. I've tried researching and fixing this problem myself but I can't seem to figure it out.
I'm essentially making a version of Pong as a small project to get myself into programming using AS3. My problem is I've got the ball moving left towards the edge of the stage but I can't make it come back once it reaches the border.
I've an idea of what needs to be done, I need to make a function that sends the ball off to the side of the screen then have an if statement that detects when the ball reaches the border that then tells the ball to stop moving in that direction and move to the other side of the screen. [code]...
In my previous topic whitelynx_nivla gave me a code, which I edited. I'm using it to set variables when a certain key is pressed. But the loader can't access the variables and change them.[code]
Right, is it possible to change the varaible of an object within flash (5) through the use of a textbox? The reason being we're doing a group project with Flash and MaxMSP and when a video camera picks up movement, numbers will be sent from MaxMSP through to flash.
Thus, when these numbers "arrive" in flash I want them to trigger certain events. For instance (where this code resides in the movie clip: 'tree'):
Here, the idea is that when '5' is sent to flash a tree will grow and when 4 is sent something else will grow etc... However, because I don't want stuff growing all the time I need to change the variable of an object. I presume a textbox would be the easiest way of going about it
I am doing some server communication in AS3 / PHP / MySQL and I was wondering if there was a way to change a variable just before the user closes Flash?
Example: User closes browser or tab and Flash updates a variable before it closes the player.
I would like to be able to send the message to the server so that it knows that the user quit as it happens.
I'm trying to use actionscript in a button to increment variables in my program. ie. when you click the button it increments a variable and so displays different information in one of my dynamic text boxes. The program doesn't seem to recognise the button input. I understand you have to give your button an instance name but I'm not sure how to set up the code to recognise this input.
So my problem is when I use this code in php:"&some=var1=aa&var2=bb&&";I would like to receive to flash:trace(myvars.some);var1=aa&var2=bb&But it won't work because flash thinks that always when there is & its new variable. So if I try to trace I get var1=aa
Is it possible to store multiple variables of different types inside 1 object. It would be ideal to have a separate property for each variable, but not required. Is there a way to do this?
I'm trying to create a template for a drag and drop question. I want to assign which option belongs to the correct target. Each draggable option is called "drag1, drag2, drag3, etc.". (created on the stage) Each target is called "target1, target2, target3, etc." When a button is clicked, the correct answer is checked using a simple if loop and the user is told which ones are correct.
Code: if (drag1._y = target1._y) { //show if correct or incorrect
ActionScript Code: for (var j:int = 0; j < 20; j++){ if (values==j){ var "ingredient"+j:"Ingredient"+j = new "Ingredient"+j();
[Code].....
it doesn't work for what are probably obvious reasons but I show it to give you an idea of what I'm trying to do which is change the name of the variables while the program is running.
