so after its loaded i want to insert some text into external swf using main movie. i managed to remove external swf, like this ActionScript Code: holder_mc0.removeChild(holder_mc0.getChildByName("pages0")); but i wonder how to insert text into that swf. i don't understand how hierarchy works, when you addChild, what name should i use for my external files. for example ActionScript Code: holder_mc0. ?????? .mainTemplate.tContent.text = "TEXT"
I can't figure out why this text file won't load when its parent swf is being called into the main swf but will separately. in an actions layer on the main timeline I'm using this code: _root.contents.loadMovie("easter_scroll.swf"); I'm calling the easter_scroll.swf, which calls Easter.txt, into index_main.swf but the text file doesn't load although the easter_scroll.swf loads. I am confident one of you flash gurus can figure this out.

I purchased template and trying to edit it, there is page called portfolio i managed to make it load images from external files, but when trying to do same for text description no success. I tried different techniques i found online, but none work, only work when i place textbox on main scene but never works when i place it on Portfolio page 3 (click portfolio button then click page 3) to go there in flash find "scroll2_4" page trough library right click and chose edit. I need to load description from text for items on that page. I have a block of html text which is displayed to the user in a TextArea. Currently, the I have embedded the HTML as an XML object within one of my classes, but this seems like a terrible design. I would like to put the HTML in an embedded file and load it into an XML or String object.
I've tried to search for how to do this, but my searches return information on embedding images and fonts, not text which can be loaded into Strings.
Is it possible to embedded text or xml files and load them into variables in Flex?
I am trying to load a variable from a text file named "variable_file.txt" The variable in the file is "var" and I am trying to assign the word "value" When I run the following code:

View 5 RepliesI am pulling double duty with this question as it serves two purposes. I am developing a total flash controlled ad system for myself, but also need to use the same theory for a project for work.
Concept: I have a main movie (ad rotator system) that I then want to randomly load other swf's (individual ads) into this main swf after a set period of time. The random load I got set no problem. The problem I am having is to get it to move to the new Frame label of the main movie which then loads the smaller swfs. I am using the LoadMovie with nInterval time delay command in flash to load the movies.

I'm trying to do a demo with a fastforward button and a rewind button that will go to the next scene and previous scene...however, due to the format that my predecessor created used...I'm stuck with alot of scenes. The navbar (ff and rewind buttons) is in a .swf file called main. The actual demo is in demo3.swf. I created a loader scene to redirect to the correct scene (when ff and rewind are hit), but I'm not sure how to pass the variables needed from the main movie.
View 4 RepliesI have a movie. In it are some buttons and a dynamic text field. When I press the buttons is should load text from a database into the dynamic text field. If I run the movie by itself (ie. not by LoadMovie()-ing it into a different movie) the dynamic text field gets filled with text and all is well and good. However, when I use LoadMovie() to load this very same movie into my main movie, the buttons no longer work; the text field stays empty.

View 1 RepliesI am using preloader from the main swf file to load other swf file, if i use a preloader inside my other swf file then it wont show so sorting that problem I am referencing this nice material on preloaders [] I have sorted the preloader problem by calling the preloader from the main swf file and hiding the other swf file till its fully downloaded. but now the problem is I have got no functionality from that swf file, i mean i have got that mouse effect in the other swf file that where ever you move the mouse in the screen the showreel adjusts itself but its static now.
I have got this container mc in my main swf file, and i am using the other swf file by clicking the button, the swf file loads in the container mc after showing the preloader but its kind a static.

When I do a trace of loadFile_str in the first frame of monthlyreports I get a undefined. I have tried trace(loadFile_str) and trace(_global.loadFile_str). I also noticed that if I define the global on the main movie (it maintains the global variable, the navigation fla will not overwrite it).
I wanna know if it is possible to load an SWF file, from a main swf file, but OUTSIDE of it. What I mean to say is, to open it as it was a completely different thing.. like, for example, when you click a link of a video on a website and it automatically brings up your windows media player.. i dont wanna load the swf inside the main swf, I want another flash player to pop-up and play it separately..
