ActionScript 2.0 :: Make XML And Flash // Object Or Number?

ok, when I trace a certain variable: trace(numButtons) Display: 12 (which is getting it's value from a node in an xml document) owever, when I do: trace(typeof numButtons) it gives me an Object.How come I'm tracing a number but when I "typeof" it, I get an Object. The problem is, I can't use this variable as a subsitute for my number and it's messing up my functions.
I am currently trying to create an app using flash AIR.I would like to find some more information on how to make an object snap to another ojbect then follow its path, eg. a person object is already on the stage, then drag an arrow to the object which snaps to it, then on play button it follows the arrow path. all in pure actionscript, no guide layers.

While debugging everything works properly if I'm testing that frame.But, pushing a button in another frame, I get the following error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference at "frame number:raw number"
I'm quite sure that the problem is that the variable e.Join changes its corresponding e.Value pushing a particular button in another frame (as must be). Any ideas how to link that information to the frame that create the error?
I'm trying to make a basic flash calculator except it only has to be able to square the number provided by the user, I have followed many tutorials but I keep getting the NaN as the output. Here is the actionscript:
I have a question on how i can remove an object when two objects hit.I have two objects on the stage overlapping.
object #1 = character_mc object #2 = vanish_mc
I want to make it so that the object #2 (vanish_mc) will vanish once i run it.

I would like to know is there any limitations in flash textarea like the number of lines it can have or the number of bytes it can have. iam opening a text file using php in textarea, where all the contents of the files are not getting loaded in the textarea. If it is there then how to increase its size, is it same thing in flex?
We are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.
Number() didn't work, parseInt() does!I'm trying to make a solitaire card game but having a lot of trouble shuffling the cards. This is how I do it:

So I shuffle 52 numbers, cards are placed on the screen ordered by position, which is a1array[posit] but for some reason all cards came out at the same place.After staring at the screen for hours and nodding my head, I've finally found out, the value of a1array[posit] is an object now instead of a number. how to prevent it from becoming an object and let it stay a number, or turn it back into a number again?
I have a speaker and I need this speaker moves with a sound. I need to simulate the real world speaker vibration generated by the low and mid frequencies.
Does not have to be soo realistic what I whant to know is how I can play a sound and get son mumerical value usefull for apply numerical size transformation to the speaker.
I've been trying to set up this test page for my flash game but it refuses to gain focus on load. I read a bunch of forum entries and didn't get it to do anything, I can't really believe this should be so hard.

I am using the following code to create an array of grid coordinates. After pulling my hair out for quite some time, I did a trace (typeof) and found out that the coordinates are going into the array as objects. Obviously, I need numbers. Does anyone know how to convert the array values to numbers instead of objects? (as you can see, I wrapped my push command with the Number() operator, but it still turns out to be objects!)

i wanna make an object ease after another object that is easing... like a motion trail. but the objects just go to the corner of the screen....and won't ease after each other.
Im working on a small project and it involves a guy which you move with the arrow keys. The arrow keys add to his x, y velocities and his position is updated accordingly. How can i get this man to grab onto an object and spin around it (like when you grab pole and letting your momentum swing you around) . I can make him grab the object but I dont know how to modify his x,y speeds to simulate the arc.
I'm still new to AS3, and I was wondering how to make an object point in the direction of another object and move towards it if they are a certain distance from one another. I haven't been able to find out how to do this from the Adobe devnet, so I thought I'd ask here.
The following is that long only because I gave examples of what I want to know, not because it is complex .I have three basic questions regarding AS 3.0 classes.
1. How can I make a class object interact with an object on stage?
For example, when I have a square (mc_Square) with class "square" attached to it and I want it to trace "Colliding!" and print the X and Y of the mc_Box on contact with an on-stage *hollow* box (mc_Box) that has no class attached to it.how to do it vice-versa would also be awesome .
2. How can I make a class object interact with the same class object? For example, when I have two squares (mc_Square) that both have the class "square" attached to it and when they collide, it prints the X and Y of both of them.
3. How can I make a class object interact with a different class object?
For example, when I have two squares mc_Square1 with class "square1 (that also has a variable Primary=true written in it)" and a mc_Square2 with class "square2"; When they collide, the one with Primary=true would be removed and it's X,Y position traced.
I have code that I got off line that will create a random number in the output tab. I put together an if else statement, however I can not figure out what how to call the random number into the if else statement. My last try was calling "n," However that did not work. I have a bit of the code that I am working with. I am giving only the first 3 but there are 13 in total, but as they are all the same just going to different frames I thought that it was not necessary to show them all.

i have a swf file of width 1000 and height 700. i want to show the swf file in full screen of the browser it self (not like videos plying full screen). i tried like the following
1) get user screen width and height using java script using the functions available (screen.availHeight and screen.availWidth) the screen size is available by using the functions but not applying to the flash object
2) tried giving 100% for both height and width in object code that also not working
Basically, I have a DIV, which I've set to z-index: 100. I have an iframe which I set to z-index: 0. My 100 div is ontop of the frame on a normal webpage, but I have to load a flash page in the frame. Unfortunately the flash in the frame shows overtop of my 100 DIV. I can't set the z-index of the flash object because I don't control that webpage!
I'm making a game where I have must have some objects like weapons and characters, which I in the end would like to get visual as a sprite or movieclip
Should I write the logic for the objects in several classes and then make a reference to the object in a sprite class like the following :

And then when I need to do damage just call the WeaponSprite's method weaponModel() when I need to acces the methods or should I just merge the two together into one class.?
I want to find a way to only allow certain objects into an array that have a certain word in thier class name. Or at least find the optimal way of doing something like this. Heres the details. I have an Array that stores all the objects dropped into a cart.
