ActionScript 2.0 :: Make A Links Box That Reads Data From A XML File?

I am trying to make a links box that reads data from a XML file and inturn generates all the buttons and when clicked on will open the specific page in a new browswer window.this is what I have so far: a box that reads the XML, makes individual buttons and a scroller to see all the links if there are more than what can be displayed. We have a Flash application provided by a vendor. It reads its parameters from an xml file on our web server's file system. However, it can also be spoofed to read its parameters from an xml file sitting on another domain's web server. At first we thought crossdomain.xml might be able to fix this, but we've researched it and understand the purpose of crossdomain.xml. It won't solve this issue.Are there any ways of enforcing that a Flash application reads its input file only from the same server where the Flash application was served? Or is the recommendation just to initialize variables within the Flash app, not relying on an external file.

the situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date. the xml file | very simple, has an <activity> element with a 'date' attribute, i.e.

my remaining questions | What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day. i'm setting up the xml file correctly.

Im making a file data center sort of thing in flash. What's meant to happen is: You click an button on the side of the list and on the display area beside it it shows the text info on that item and the button that you click to display that item! really simple but i dont know how to do it Instance names: what ever you want
Actionscript dyscription:
1. Click button
2. [instance name: "display" MOVIECLIP] displays the frame("display2")

I have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.

How can I save data to a text file and also append a record to data in an existing text file? I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

I am the fan of kirupa but this is my first thread in forum. I have some problem with sendAndLoad method with actionscript 2.0. I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?

I am loading data into a dynamic textbox from my database using the loadVariables() function.
I am trying to create buttons that have a link like a mailto using the data from the database.
For example:

The variable is already loaded into the dynamic textbox, I just have to figure out how to pass it to the as code above.

I have a flash movie that connects to xml, php etc and uses absolute path. The file works perfectly fine on any browser on my mac but doesn't work at all if I am using my windows (none of the browsers seem to be working)
This is the way I'm loading stuff:

I don't know now, maybe I should use ' instead of " for this example.

I have an object on the stage (with an instance called mcBlackboard) that contains two buttons.
I'm trying to make these buttons link to pages on my site but I get the following error(s):
1120: Access of undefined property buttonAboutUs
1120: Access of undefined property buttonFAQs
My guess is that it's not finding the buttons in the movieclip (since the script worked fine when the objects were on the stage).[code]...

What is the Action Script code that makes me able to make a download link? I used "getURL" but this way user is forced to open the file, I want to make him able to download the file and save it to his hard disk. How I can make this? For Example, if the file was an audio file, I don't want it to open directly with the default player, I want to make user free to save it to his PC or play it online.

The AS3 reads a string from a XML, that string contains a "" for a line break, but it dosen't work. The "" is displayed as part of the text.How can I include the break line in the XML?

My goal is making a navigation section that is a scrollable box. I thought the easiest solution was to make a dynamic text box and put a scroll bar on it. Worked until it came time to make the links. It is only letting me make one link for all the text. Also I think I want more control for the mouseover look.

I have followed the tutorial by b.rich on Arrays and attachmovie to try and make a movie with a list of links. the MC that I attach dynamically has a AS 2.0 class attached to it to handle its rollover and rollout states. An invisible button in the MC (instance name lbutton) carries the AS for the link and sits on the topmost layer. My newbie brain just cannot get around two problems:
1. The links just wont work.
2. I have quite a long list of these. How do I fit them all in the MC (all my attempts show the links spilling out of a container MC and onto the main stage), make the MC scrollable and then put it on the stage?

I found a cool menu that I'd like to be able to use but right now I don't know how to make the buttons become functional links. If its just a matter of editing the XML only? Or...does something need to be added to the actionscipt as well. I have a hunch both need to be edited and I have already tried various revisions. Below is the link where the example and files can be found. Be aware that if you try to use the actual files you will need an mc tween extension found at [URL].
