View 2 Repliesi'm getting a value from a class that gives me e.g "icon1" as data. i want to use this within a function to control the visibility of an item nested in a movieclip on the stage. the nested movie has the same name as the data being sent.
// here's what i want it to do:
mymenu.icon1.visible = true;
// but i cant append the 2 together as flash will see it as a string not read it as path.

my flash reads the xml, but does not understand the tag php. I want to read my xml dynamically
code:

var _loc2 = targetArray.length;

i'd like to know if this is possible: currently i have a file menu.xml which contains menu information 2 levels deep (main menu, sub menus). this i am reading into flash and generating the menu. i would like to change this process:
1. call a php script which creates the xml output and using headers sends that data back into flash. sending and loading vars is no problem.
2. use flash to generate the menu

We have a Flash application provided by a vendor. It reads its parameters from an xml file on our web server's file system. However, it can also be spoofed to read its parameters from an xml file sitting on another domain's web server. At first we thought crossdomain.xml might be able to fix this, but we've researched it and understand the purpose of crossdomain.xml. It won't solve this issue.Are there any ways of enforcing that a Flash application reads its input file only from the same server where the Flash application was served? Or is the recommendation just to initialize variables within the Flash app, not relying on an external file.
View 3 Replieshow Flash reads the PHP coding which was generated from the MySQL database.Though, I was wondering if anyone can help me with this task and/or clear stuff up. All I want to do is grab a single video file, when on the video.php page.the video.php will have the parameter, video.php?id=____ and than the PHP coding in the header will grab the database info for that video. Though, do I have to create a separate page for the flash to grab that information?Like, I notice that for Flash to grab that info, PHP needs to set it up like so:
Code:
vid=test.flv&title=title...
and ect. Though, do I have to echo this part out, or do I have to send that PHP info and create a page from it, than have flash grab the information from that 2nd page?
Is there a way to know the proxy setting of web browser under Flex 3, namely actionscript 3?
We use socket library to connect remote HTTP server. It is nice to read web proxy setting to connect to HTTP proxy instead of directly to HTTP server.
I am loading an xml and looping through it using a recursive function. The problem is that it only reads through the first tree and then quits..??

I am trying to make a links box that reads data from a XML file and inturn generates all the buttons and when clicked on will open the specific page in a new browswer window.this is what I have so far: a box that reads the XML, makes individual buttons and a scroller to see all the links if there are more than what can be displayed. View 1 RepliesI have an external class which will add an eventListener to a bunch of movieClips. I did this this way so I dont have to write 80+ eventListeners. BUT how can Flash tell which movieClip I'm pressing?And how can I specificly let something happen for that specific instance?
View 1 RepliesI can't get the hit test (true) to work on a clip that animates (all it does is grow in size). If I set the hittest to false so it just reads the box of the clip, and not the shape it works just fine. The clip in question is simply a circle.
View 11 RepliesI was following this tutorial and getting this error message. I think I have the same the guy in the tutorial has, but I am getting an error message. Why? I have this in my AS: import fl.controls.*; The error reads: 1172: Definition fl.controls could not be found.
View 3 RepliesWhy does Flex 3 DataGrid read a string from XML lastResult.node as number?A field is saved as var_char in mysql, php reads it as string and pass it OK.If there are more then 16 charaters it gets rounded....For example:
this in database cell:
12345678901234567
gets read in DataGrid as nubmer as 12345678901234568
this is in database cell:
5555544444222223333377777
php reads it same and puts it in XML flex reads XML into arrayCollection and DataGrid reads it as:
5.55554444422222e+24
So it reads it as number, why? And how to make it read as String? I tried with labelFunction, no help.

how to make a dynamic scroller that reads all text from an xml file.
Kinda like a way to insert text into a movieclip without it having a set text field height..
I am trying to use the _visible property of loaded swf files to trigger the opening animations of these files to prevent the animations from playing before the preceding swf animation finishes. The problem is that the property of the loaded swf files read true when false and vice versa. If you click the link again, the property reads correctly (false when false etc). The onEnterFrame handler seems to be the issue, but I need it to read the property. The code is a bit lengthy, but I posted it for reference sake.
// the purpose is to unload the content and use the width property
// or visible property to trigger the opening animation
// of the next swf file
onSelfEvent (load) {

The screen reader (JAWS) is able to read the textfield in flash on Google's Chrome but not in Internet Explorer 8. I'm using the latest version of swfobject.
View 1 Repliesthe situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date. the xml file | very simple, has an <activity> element with a 'date' attribute, i.e.

my remaining questions | What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day. i'm setting up the xml file correctly.
I use Flashdevelop as my IDE. It is defaulting to write void with a capital V which reads Void and is causing CS5 to throw an error.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering if it is possible to create a flash movie that rotates values that are stored in HTML. For example if i have these 3 containers:
<div style="display:none">
<img src="someimage1" />
<span class="text1">text1</span>[code].....
I want to have some flash movie rotate these values every 10 seconds. I don't want to program it hard into flash, it has to be variable. It has to display the first set, then after 10 sec the second, and so on.Maybe if it is possible something that stops the toggle, and skip to just the second, or just the third.I also don't want to use javascript to do this (jQuery etc.), because this conflicts with another timer on the website.Is there a way of doing this?
In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.
how the string.match method is and if so

But I keep getting an "Error #2030: End of file was encountered." This is (probably) because the class I'm serializing is too big for the "String" object type in AS3. Is there a limitless object for storing an array of characters (or better yet binary), or am I going to have to make my own class? (like one with an array of strings)
I am trying to include double quotes in a string but logic says it would just close the string. I know in html you would use something like ". In flash...I havent the slightest.Anyone know how to go about this?
View 1 RepliesI have a String variable in my flex (flash builder 4) application containing CSV data. I need to allow the user to download this data to a local file. For example, giving them a "csv" button to click and it might present them with a save file dialog (and I would be sending the contents of my string variable).Is this possible / how ?I am using the ResuableFX component for the datagrid to csv. This the code I ended up with that works to save the string to a text file for the user (in a web browser):
var dg2CSV:DataGrid2CSV = new DataGrid2CSV();
dg2CSV.includeHeader=true;
dg2CSV.target=adgEncounters;

I really don't understand why this won't work? I've made a test which sends some POST data to a script on my page which works fine.[code]
