ActionScript 2.0 :: Make A Poll System In Flash Which Grabs Data From A PHP Generated Xml File
Apr 20, 2004
I've been using Flash for a while now but have just started using Flash Combined with XML. I'm trying to make a poll system in flash which grabs data from a PHP generated xml file. This is the contents of the xml file at the moment.
I'm having a lot of trouble getting my AS3 code to work. I have made a digital clock that grabs the system's time and I want to be able to control the speed of the time by using a slider and a button to reset the time back to the system's clock. Any idea how I go about doing this? I figure I need to grab the system's time and then stop it and create my own clock by increasing the seconds by 1.
I have a flex application that repeatedly polls a remote XML file to detect changes, but I've found that once the file hits a certain size, the poll blocks the UI and makes the page unresponsive for a short time.
Is there any way to ensure that the call made to the server or the event from the flash.utils.Timer class runs asynchronously to the main UI thread?
Basically I have a sales presentation showing on a screen in various offices where I work. These show daily sales figures that can change as and when somebody makes a sale. I have an swf loading data from an XML file into slides and everything works great apart from if the XML file changes at the moment I need to force a refresh (manually). I'd like to make it so that if the file changes it automatically reflects in the swf. So far my research has pointed me to AS3 Socket Communication but I haven't been sucessful in finding a relevant tutorial.My code is below,
Is it possible to make flash mx to take the time on the system and make it run a determined frame. I want to make a clock that shows the real time. How can I do it?
I have a normal XML file which i chucked together that works fine with the code i have below - this is obviously saved as an xml file as well. What I'm trying to do is generate an XML page using PHP. I have done so, works fine and reads as it should correctly when simply viewing the page in a browser, but when i try and read out the data in flash (loading in a php file instead of an xml file, everything is undefined!! Below is the flash code, which works when the load() link is changed to a straightforward xml file...
Code:
newsPageContent_txt.html = true; var test_xml = new XML(); test_xml.ignoreWhite = true;
[code]....
the header at the top of this PHP is generating the page as xml, so it should all be valid.
Users provide various elements of content for the final Flash movie, eg. text and photos. We want to be able to allow the user to download the movie they create in a format such as MP4 which they can play on their local computer or upload to YouTube.
Im making a file data center sort of thing in flash. What's meant to happen is: You click an button on the side of the list and on the display area beside it it shows the text info on that item and the button that you click to display that item! really simple but i dont know how to do it Instance names: what ever you want Actionscript dyscription:
1. Click button 2. [instance name: "display" MOVIECLIP] displays the frame("display2") 3. Click other button in list and goto and stop ("display3")
I have a SWF file. It can generate Jpeg images. I want to get that images by url (for ex www.my.com/file.swf#image.jpeg) I want to get just clean image (no flash no sign of flash). So as if i was just calling my apache server to give me that image.
I am working with Flex, Flash, Action Script and I want to browse the local machine file system using Operating System's file browse window and select a file then i want to get the full path of the selected file. How can I do this?
I am currently looking for a tutorial that will explain how to build a flash poll. This is for a website Im working on. However, the server is not PHP friendly. Thus, I am looking for a Flash poll ASP tutorial.
Using Flash CS4 and having the Flash plug-in ver 10 on my PC, the generated html file will not play the swf in the browser.I noticed that the active-x javascript is now included in the header as well as the javascript portion in the body tag.But it won't play. I get the typical blank window in IE with the "X" in the upper left corner.I don't have this problem with Flash CS3.
is it possible to store and array generated in flash in a XML file?I am wanting to try make something where I have a group of object to choose from but I only want to choose say 3 of 10. I would like to be able to check the ones I want and then those be added to an array or an XML file which I can later pick up and use in another external swf.Because I am wanting to use an external swf I thought that adding it to say an xml file would be the option. But I don't really know how to get the ball rolling on this.
Does anyone know if adobe flash player cache data is available to other users on a system? For example: A user logs onto Windows XP, then uses my adobe flex application... and in the process of doing so downloads the signed flex lib... He then decides to mow the lawn and log off. At about 3pm the same day, his Mum can't hear the TV over the sound of the mower, so she decides to log in using a different XP user account. She proceeds to use the very same flex application. Does she also need to download the flex lib again, or would the data already be cached in the flash player?
I'm attempting to connect to an existing Comet-style long-poll service using an AIR app. The service expects a client to make a GET request with a Connection: Keep-Alive header. This request will remain open for long periods of time so that the server can push data through. In my app, the connection is terminated with an IOError after 30 seconds.
Is this an undocumented limitation of URLStream? A restriction on adl (I've only been running my app through adl)?
The server does not send any "keep-alive" messages to the client but, unfortunately this is not something i have control over.
Update
To test this, I've set up a stripped-down version using a little php script (linked by leggetter below) and am hitting it from a simple AIR app. I'm finding that my connections are closed after 30 seconds whether I use URLStream or URLLoader. the PHP:
<?php set_time_limit(0); sleep(40);
[Code]....
If i adjust the initial sleep time in the php script to anything over 30 seconds, the IOError event is triggered. If I lower the sleep time, but the request continues adding data past 30 seconds, the onComplete event is called, but _urlLoader.data is empty.
The only way this process completely successfully is if the entire thing is over before 30 seconds elapses.
i've created a php file which grabs ID, name, URL1, URL2, and Price from a table and puts it into an array called 'loadpics'.Now here is where i'm lost.How can i then put pictures into flash from the URLS in the variable? how to tell flash to create the pictures... Do i need to use a component or something? Or do i create a movieclip and somehow load them in there? if someone has an xml script example of putting images from the urls in the variable created by the php.
I am a new user of adobe flash. I have a question: After I published my flash file to .exe and .swf, how to I check the system requirement for this project when they need to open it? I need to write on the cd face....
I think it can only access the network but not local file system, but from internet some people said it can in the newest version, can anybody confirm? It can reach arbitrarily file or just a specific location?
We use subversion, which works great for software projects. We also have a lot of flash projects, which we don't use any kind of source control. Each flash project contain quite a few images. The time frame of each project is a couple weeks, but few can go upto a couple months.
The number of files we create contribute to quite a bit of file size. To keep repository size at a minimum, we want to keep the latest version only and wipe out previous history once a project is finished. History is useless to us after a project is finished.
It looked into subversion, but it doesn't allow to remove anything from the repository. I need to perform this workaround here.
One easy way is creating a separate repository for each project. When the project is over, save the latest version to archive and wipe out the repository. The number of active projects is about 50 - 100. Is there any issue with creating one repository per project?
what methods and parameters of the urlloader class we have to use to display images in a flash player if possible..also movie should update everytime a new image is added to a database or filethe images can either be in a file system or in a sql database (if possible)does flash comes with an object of this type or we have to create it
I need to disable all the aspects of functionality which access the client file system in a flash/flex application. I started having a look on how to do this. It appears that the package flash.filesystem need to be importated to allow the interaction with the file system. However, I did not find any reference to this package in the application. I am a beginner concerning these technologies so maybe I am missing a point here. Do I need to look into an other direction?
My company has a database-driven system of web forms, each ofwhich consists of many questions in various layouts (2-columnradio, 1 column checkbox, etc). The forms are never hard-coded.Each HTTP request causes Java code to perform DB queries todynamically generate the various questions and answers.Thosequestions are then rendered through JSP and Struts tiles into HTML.The HTML also contains JavaScript functions to hide/showconditional questions on the web page based on answers to earlierquestions. Now we're trying to figure out the best way to adapt thissystem to use a Flash front-end instead of HTML/JavaScript.My preliminary research suggests at least two possibleapproaches:
1. A pre-compiled SWF could send a request with certainparameters, and the server could respond with an XML description ofthe form to build. Then the SWF could parse that XML andynamically generate the form using attachMovie for each formelement (with a lot of math to determine relative positions ofelements with variable sizes, like text labels). 2. Flex might reduce the code for placing elements, by usingMXML to describe the form structure as well as visual arrangement.I haven't used this yet, and I'm wary of Flex 2 simply because itrequires Flash Player 9 which is only at 50% browser penetration
I have a function that generates a series of mcs from XML. These mcs contain buttons. I need to pass the ID of the movie that the button is attached to into the button events, but I can't figure it out. See the code below. How do I pass something into the button event? Or do I need to rethink?
Code: for (var i=0; i <= 15; i++) { identID = "ident" + i; var tempgrid = grid_mc.attachMovie("ident_proto", identID,
I'm trying to have my program select from a random assortment of pictures in the file, and each one is labeled Transition1, Transition2 etc. Each instance of the symbol is named transition1, transition2, though 4. The 4 symbols are in one other symbol with the instance name TransitionImages. For some reason when I run the program it doesn't put the files in the symbols though
stop(); var checkNumberArray:Array=new Array ; var transitionimageLoader:Loader;
I created an multilanguage application with the "strings "panel. My customer need to put some words in italic inside the dynamic textfield. So I used <i> tag or cdata tag insied the xml, but nothing works, even if I put the textfield in "html" format. So How can I do. Do we need to change the "locale.as" class?
