ActionScript 2.0 :: Making A Sort Of Increasing Transparency Layer?

making a sort of increasing transparency layer..say i have a movieclip which is scrolling back and forth horizontally ..as it reaches its extremes ( were i want it to start being hidden) i do not want it to be completly hidden right away .. but i want it to look more and more hidden the further into the extreme it goes , so it looks as if its fading when it scrolls to the side.

i know it could be done by slicing the mc up into smaller bits and changing _alpha of it as it goes further away from my center ..
How i would go about making a sort of increasing transparency layer..

I have created a swf for the header of my website. On the top layer I have an image that stays static while the rest of the header changes images. I am trying to get the static image to be fairly transparent but am not having much luck. I created the image in PS I saved it with transparency but it doesn't look right in the swf.
I ran into an odd problem a week ago that I haven't been able to fix. I'm new to Flash so sorry if this has been discussed but my research has turned up nothing. I'm using Flash Develop. I managed to duplicate the problem in a simple program: I set up one large bitmap for the background, not transparent. I then add another large bitmap on top of that, the second layer background, as a child of the main bg. This layer has transparency so you can see the bg through the trees and such. Then I stack a lot of sprites on top of each other, all with transparency. They can be children of the main bg or the second layer bg, doesn't matter. Where the transparency of the sprites overlap the second layer background disappears completely to reveal the main background (like a window around the sprite stack.) The bitmaps I'm using are from embedded png files.
I found that 23 transparent objects causes the 24th object and beyond to disappear. And it only happens when I have a mask set to the main background (a simple filled square for clipping the child sprites that move off-screen.) Also the problem goes away while the background is moving. My project features many objects near each other so the chance of this problem occurring is pretty high. Its not game-breaking but I'm new to flash and my project is nearly complete (and large) so I'm hoping there is something simple I can do to fix this.
i want to collapse a complex scene with all different layers and different transparency into a single layer (or as few as possible) to optimize the flash file for online (were experince proformance issues). I have tried the combine and manually copying pasting into one layer but it cuts the fill below and replace with transparent fill. I want to have a end file that is 100% solid.
Im working on a website for a company that specializes in creating custom sound proof boxes for recording and whatnot. The actual site is done completely in html and the shopping cart is html. You can see how i have the thing layout out here:[URL]So they are supposed to have the option to completely customize a soundbooth in flash.
Step1 Involves has them pick out the size of the box. If its 4x4 or 8x12 and so on.
Step2They have to pick the color of the box.
Step3 They drag and drop Windows(They can only place 2 and only at certain spots)on the box.
Step4They pick where the door goes by dragging it and dropping it over the box.
Step5They pick where they want the ventilation box.
And then its done.Now once they have done all of that it takes that sound booth they have created and exports all the data to the html shopping cart ready to purchase.
Now this is pretty complicated for me since I have a pretty basic understanding of actionscript. I just got up too speed on variables for goodness sake a little while ago. And im just not sure where to start. Would i be using strings for all the variables so that depending on what option they click on its storing the information that way or arrays or what? Any tuts or things you think i should read up on to help me would be awesome im just not sure where to start.
This is something I tried to do once long ago with Flash MX, and it did not work for me, and now with CS3, I find that the same concept is not working. What I am trying to do is make an animation where the text appears via a masked layer, but I would like the mask's gradient to be revealed in the animation. what I want to do is that first you can preview all the skateboards, but when I click on a certain skateboard model I want sort of a fixed pop-up window, at the same time as the background (the usual webpage) gets toned down and you cannot access the background page without closing down the "fixed pop-up window".It is used on many pages so probably you know what I want to achieve.

Normally, I'd just like to sort the array alphabetically using the name field, which is easy enough using the following code. However, I'd like to create a radio button called 'loadedRadioButton' and when it's click on, I'd like to sort the array on the loaded value first(any items with loaded=true should be at the top, sorted alphabetically), then afterwards, any other items with loaded=false, sorted alphabetically should follow afterwards, how can I do it?

When I get a collection back from the service tier, I create an ArrayCollection and apply a sort. When I add an item to the collection later on, the sort is still in place? It seems to be the case. I thought I was only sorting it once, not applying a sort that will stick??Here is the method for adding an item:

I am doing some research on creating clcikTags. I read a few places that the clcikTag should be on the top layer. That has been fine, but now I want to loop it and I usually put my actions in the top layer. Will this cause a problem? Am I better off just putting my loop action on the last key frame of the clcikTag layer?
Im creating a program that is designed to allow the used to select 3 pictures (movie clips) and print them off on a single peace of paper.
The program works by allowing the user to select 3 graphics (the graphics are actually instructions for various exercises) and then moving the desired movieclips onto the stage. This all happens on a layer named "Content"
So far the program will allow the user to select the movieclips and will move them into place on the Content layer as well as move smaller versions of the pictures into a preview box the only thing it does not do is print. (the most important bit)

I can't seem to go to a master edit file that is supposed to show both the body (layer 1) and wing (layer 2) of a flying bird animation. Is there a way to merge these two since I'm planning on shrinking it down and making a lot of birds?He merged the two layers at 14:24 of the video without even explaining how he went to this so called "Edit Master Movie Clip" that seems non-existent on Adobe Flash CS4.
I want to create a simple mask. A white oval on a second layer on top of a bottom layer that just has a word of type. I want the oval to travel from the upper left down to cover up the type. When I create the second layer, create the oval, and choose a distant frame for the "end" of the oval's positioning, my type in the first layer disappears as soon as I press F6 on that second layer. Why? Why is it nuking my first layer?
I have a container MovieClip called Drags where I can drag stamps (other MovieClips)--they are added to the Drags container via addChild. I have a second container MovieClip above that one (display order-wise) call Paint that contains a bmp, and some sprites used for adding a layer of paint.
My question is this: I need to be able to click on the Paint layer when I am above a draggable MovieClip and trigger the MouseEvent for the correct object to drag it around, but the item must always remain below the Paint layer.
I'm trying to do a little comic comedy type video in Flash. I've done an outline sketch with the pen tool of my first character, now I want to color it BUT I want to keep the colors and the outline sketch separated on two different layers. Is there a way I can select the path (outline) on layer A and then colorize it with the bucket tool on layer B? The problem I'm having is that every object I select it automatically jumps to that corresponding layer.
One reason why I want to do it this way is I still want to continue working freely on the outline sketch since it's not fully finished, so that I just can blend the colors out and keep working on the outline, at the same time I want to color it while I go just to see where it's going and to make sure that I'm not wasting my time unnecessarily with trying to do a outline just to find out that it won't work out at the end.

I'm editing a scoller and have removed a photo from it however as the scroller scrolls a gap slowly appears where the original photo was. I can't seem to stop this happening?
I've been working on a flash animation that has been set to 12frames per second, but now my boss has told me it needs to be 25fps - but when i change the frame rate in 'modify>document' the whole thing just speeds up. Is there a way to increase the fps whilst retaining the original speed?
Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.
I am working on the following code and I keep getting a cut off at around the 'C' of Dave's computer.I know this is going to be a simple answer but I for the life of me cannot figure out HOW to extend the string visual field. I am pretty sure the secret lies in the variable len.

I'm beginner in Flash CS4 and I'd like to know how to increase the number of image per second of my sequence because I want more smooth morphing. The time will not change.Actually, I have 24 image per second and I'd like to put 48. Is there a way to make it automatically without changing all by hand.for automatically : I mean, I just have to change my number of frame somewhere and flash will adjust my sequence and will use now 48 frame for 1s instead of 24 frame for 1s and regenerate morphing I use.
I want to adjust the width of DropDownList control in flex 4. I could do it by editing the skinclass and setting the PopupAnchor's Property "popUpWidthMatchesAnchorWidth" to false, but in my application I have to do it using actionscript.
