I have been working on building a XML menu and I have been able to create the top level menu but I am not sure how to add the sub menu items in a drop down. I have a link to a zip file containing my XML and FLA file. I am using CS4.The top level menu items consist of the following and the sub menu options are listed. In this list, Items 1,2 and 3 are top level menu buttons and item 4 is a sub menu button that would drop down from item 3.
Animated Logo : 1
Welcome Video : 2
About Us : 3

I have a swf with a combo box in it (not created dynamicall). All is when I publish and run the swf by doing ctrl+enter.
When I publish and double click the swf to test all is well
However when I upload the combox box doesn't allow me to click and get the drop downs to appear. A green glow appears around the component when I click on it - so I think its getting focus
I have tried using form.howFind_cmb.enabled=true (which I know is pointing correctly)
What do I need to do to get the combo box to work?

I have a CSS drop-down menu and just below is a Flash Video (embeded with YouTube code). The Flash video covers my drop down, but only in Safari.
I have played around with the z-index, and I have tried both "opaque" and "transparent" for wmode (which has always fixed this for me in the past).
how to stop the video from covering my drop-downs?

I've just started learning as3 and I've been trying to find a good tutorial on dropdown menu's using just xml and as3. Most of what I've come across so far are either static menus or menus driven with heavy use of the timeline. Is it even possible to build a nice fluid drop down menu completely in code?

I'm at the verge of starting a (for me) very complicated project and I am confused about in what way I should setup my code.EXPERIENCE:- I've been programming AS2 for almost 7 years now- Finally switched to AS3 a year ago- Have beworking with the PureMVC framework in my last couple projects nowPROJECT DESCRIPTION:I have to make several templates for a dynamic quiz game.+ Information about the quizzes comes from a database+ quizzes can have different kind of question and there are also other types of screens (information, video, etc)+ All quizzes are dynamic and therefor different+ there have to be several different templates (design, animations and dimensions)MY PROBLEM:I don't really know how to tackle the different templates in the right way.I want all the templates to make use of the same basic code, but only look different (design, transitions and dimensions) terefor I think I should use a MVC pattern.But how do I implement it in such a way that I:- can have 3 different templates- add extra features to the source code without needing to update all the templates- easily add other templates when neededI'm a bit stuck in the MVC way if thinking (which is quite complex for me).
- Do I need to create different sf's = SWFs for every template (and thus the need to update them all for every new feature we implement)- Or should I use a core template, on which I can expand a new "skin" by dynamically loading a theme-swf?

I have an xml that's looks like this:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<pics><category name="categoria1">
<image NAME="1" PATH="images/1.jpg" DESCRIPTION="SALAM"/>
<image NAME="2" PATH="images/2.jpg" DESCRIPTION="SALAM2"/>
<image NAME="9" PATH="images/3.jpg" DESCRIPTION="SALAM3"/>
[Code] .....
As you can see i have categories and inside the categories I have the pictures. What I want to do is every category to be displayed with a lower y position than the previous category. And in every category the picture to be arrange in the way presented in the picture below (x position for images = 0, the picture is just to make an idea).[URL]
My as3 code looks like this:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
var _total:int = 0;
var _categories:XMLList = null;
var _subCategories:XMLList = null;

I if create a sprite, and that sprite contains numerous child sprites (which themselves also contain child sprites), do I need to worry about garbage-collecting everything, or just the parent sprite? What if the child or grandchild sprites have listeners attached?
For example, let's say I have a class (a subclass of a Sprite) that creates a screen in an application.That screen contains numerous Sprites for all of the UI affordances on the screen (e.g., buttons, drop-down menus, textfields, etc.) Many of those sprites have event listeners on them.So, in my application, I have this:
var myscreen:MyScreenClass = new MyScreenClass();
this.addChild(myscreen);
Later, when the user is done with that screen, I remove it:
this.removeChild(myscreen);
myscreen = null;
Is that all I need to do? Or, do I need to go recursively through myscreen, removing all it's child Sprites and Event Listeners?In other words, if you GC a parent, are all it's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. also GC'ed?(For what it's worth, I'm using weak-references in my event listeners...)

I'm trying to create a multi-level dungeon adventure in Flash CS4. The layout is an instance created of a symbol called Level, within the symbol are multiple wall subsymbols (wall), instances of Wall. There is a collision routine to stop the player walking through the walls, called from Wall.As.Level is drawn about the centre point (0,0).When I create an instance on the stage of Level (level), the collision tester is using the xy coordinates for the walls drawn about 0,0, not the "real" xy where it's appearing on the stage. So what I need to know, is how to "update" the xy for each wall subsymbol with the live stage information, overriding the XYs drawn in the parent. It has to be updated unfortunately (I can't keep it static), as the levels are big so have to scroll.

The string representing the function name will be read from xml @ run time.
var combo:ComboBox = new ComboBox();
combo.labelFunction = "functionName";
So the first name, which is to be displayed in the combo box, can be only retrieved by accessing another DTO, called person and then its first name.

Here's the code that allows multi-select list to drag into a tree area. What I would like to do is to change the alpha of the image that gets dragged around. I've done some research but most of the discussions out there talk about how to change the dragged image. What I want to do is simply change the default alpha of the dragged item from 0.5 to say 0.2. Also this solution should be able to handle multiple select dragging.
Below is a simple example of drag and drop that I would like to modify to allow for the alpha change of the draged item.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:layout>
<s:VerticalLayout/>

I have created an XML driven Drop Down menu using the kirupa tut by Senocular found here. I am trying to figure out how to get the submenus to push the rest of the main menu down on rollover kind of like this. Not sure where to start to get the AS to get the button created fromt he XML nodes to move down.I haven't changed the code found int he tut too much and the menu works fine except that the rollovers just go over the main menu.

Each time I make a drop down menu I face some problems, For example, when I use tweening to roll out a menu ( via ROLL_OVER/ ROLL_OUT), sometimes the menu gets stuck, or starts flickering after it is rolled out if I move the cursor away, and move back on it.
How could I solve this, should I use a timer to disable the button until the tween finishes (or this would be good for nothing)?

I'm trying to make a Image Gallery for my website by myself. However, although I can read ActionScript rather well, when it comes to writing it myself I tend to hit massive walls. Anyway I've looked at many tutorials and guides and all kinds of stuff but I still can't figure out how to get the coding to do what I want it to do. It isn't a bug because I can't get the foundations of the code down.
What I am envisioning is a initial main menu with several different selections (I.E. 3D models, 2D drawings, doodles, ect. ect. ect.) and when you click one it changes to that specific gallery. The way I thought to do it was using OOP to make a base GalleryEngine class and then implement it for the Main Menu and Image Galleries. I realize that I could do all this in flash but I think if I can get the framework of the code down that it will be easier to modify and switch out images and whatnot.

Would anyone have any tutorials on how to create a multi stage zooming menu like in the following demo links?
[URL]
Is this done with actionscript or manually tweening several clips? I can't quite seem to get my head around zooming in and out of several layers. I am currently looking into the Laco tween class as a possible solution, but I was hoping that someone might already understand how to achieve this effect.
