Xml :: Build A Nice Fluid Drop Down Menu Completely In Code?
Aug 25, 2010
I've just started learning as3 and I've been trying to find a good tutorial on dropdown menu's using just xml and as3. Most of what I've come across so far are either static menus or menus driven with heavy use of the timeline. Is it even possible to build a nice fluid drop down menu completely in code?
I need help coding this menu system and cant find any tutorials or templates on multi level (4) drop downs. I dont know weather to make everything a movie clip and load the mc's or to place buttons inside a movie clip. Everthing will be onrollover.
I have been given a site to update/improve, which uses many AS1 and AS2 elements, and my team likes a piece of AS3 I've found for a fluid layout which tweens the site container to the centre of the browser's window, and we want to keep it.But at the moment, I have to load the AS1 site into an AS3 container in order to make this work, and this means we lose the deep linking, and it's really cumbersome loading 1 thing into another which is loaded into another...
Sooo, I was hoping someone knows how to translate this AS3 code into AS1/2. Is this possible? Does AS1/2 have the appropriate tween/ease classes? Here's what the container page looks (please ignore the commented out sections).siteLoader is the MC i'm loading the main site's SWF into. AS1 would also make this much simpler with loadMovie command.
I have created an XML driven Drop Down menu using the kirupa tut by Senocular found here. I am trying to figure out how to get the submenus to push the rest of the main menu down on rollover kind of like this. Not sure where to start to get the AS to get the button created fromt he XML nodes to move down.I haven't changed the code found int he tut too much and the menu works fine except that the rollovers just go over the main menu.
Can somebody take a look at my .fla file and tell me why exactly my menu is not dropping down at all?If you download my file go to scene 3. that is where my Navigation Bar is.URL...
ive followed Senoculars drop-down menu tute [URL], awsome stuff, but it seems the submenu's dont disappear to well when you roll out. ..They only disappear if you click on another menu item or when you click outside the menu.
Each time I make a drop down menu I face some problems, For example, when I use tweening to roll out a menu ( via ROLL_OVER/ ROLL_OUT), sometimes the menu gets stuck, or starts flickering after it is rolled out if I move the cursor away, and move back on it.
How could I solve this, should I use a timer to disable the button until the tween finishes (or this would be good for nothing)?
I need a tutorial for a hierarchical drop down menu system that drops down 3 sub levels. Do I make the items in the sub menus individual buttons and then insert them into a movie clip or make every sub menu item a movie clip and insert them into buttons?
I'm creating an animated (in and out) drop down menu. I've managed to get the menu to open when the user mouses over, with the buttons all selectable. However I can't seem to find an efficient method of making the drop down menu close whenever the mouse is not over the menu. Actions:
I love Senocular's XML-Driven Drop-Down Tutorial. But I can't seem to get it to make the menu headers look different from the submenus.
(and if anyone is interested, i've turned it into a horizonal menu... reply and i'll post the code. better yet, help me fix the GUI issue and i'll post it )
Is it possible to create a completely dynamic menu by creating empty movie clips and loading external images into them? I'm experimenting with this, but it seems there is no way to create rollover/release functions for these dynamically created MC's.
I have an array for my menu and submenus. It works fine, but I have to click again on the menu to close it.When it's open it's completly open it takes too much space.how I could make a menu close when I click on another menu item..this is the code on the frame on my main timeline:
I am trying to build a dropdown list of fonts with each item in the list being written in its font ("Arial" is in arial, "Comic Sans" is in Comic Sans, etc.). What is the best way to do this? Here is the latest code that I have attempted:
I'm trying to build a drag and drop quiz where you have a list of countries, and have to drag the correct country into a blank spot in a paragraph to correctly fill out the sentence (see attached). I can get the first country to drag and drop properly. But when I tried to code the second country in the list, I get the following error message: "1021 duplicate function definition" Following is my code:
I'm having a small problem trying to build a simple little Menu Bar. I'm trying to make it so that if I click on one button (Movie Clip) it will make it look different, and then if I click on a DIFferent button (Movie Clip) it will make the old one normal, and the new one look like it is selected.
I tried doing so by creating a function that checked what page I'm currently in, and changed the look of the MCs accordingly, but when I run it, I keep getting the following error[code]...
I am trying to build a menu from my XML file and I am having a little trouble getting the correct values to appear. I am trying to get the value of categoryName into the variable pageCategory. The XML file has this structure:
I am following an online tutorial to build a horizontal menu bar in AS3. In the tut, they are using MovieClips, but for what I want to achieve I am using buttons.
Here is their code. Select allfunction navOverF(event:MouseEvent):void{ event.target.filters = [navBtnGlow]; navBar_mc.setChildIndex(event.target as MovieClip, 1); dropMenus_mc.gotoAndStop(navBar_mc.getChildAt(1).name); trace("We are rolling over..." + navBar_mc.getChildAt(1).name); } I have worked out that the issue is in line three "(event.target as MovieClip, 1)", but how do I change this code to work with buttons?
i am trying to build a scrollable menu in flash using xml.i want it to display multiple options, once an option is chosen i want it to display another menu in its place with different options.
I'm trying to build an animated menu with seven buttons, 3 of which need a submenu. I have 4 regular buttons and 3 mc's on the main timeline. After creating the first mc with 6 submenu items that appear onRollover and trying to target the submenu buttons to open a new page nothing happens when I click on the button. I attached this code to the submenu button while it in the "Over":
Code: on (release) { this.skiMenu_mc.skMain_btn.getURL("ski/sk_main.htm", "_self"); } Here's the complete fla file if you're interested. I'm using Flash MX 2004.
I have some code to build a menu dynamically from an xml file.
Code: var myXML = new XML(); myXML.ignoreWhite = true; myXML.onLoad = function(success) {
[Code]....
Which works fine, pulls in the attributes, label, colour and so on and builds the menu. However it hapens all at once as the for loop executes, how would I insert a pause so that the menu appears to build over time?
I just signed up and am fairly new to flash so I hope I'm posting in the right spot. My problem that I'm having is I am trying to build a menu consisting 3 buttons, side by side that open and reveal subnavigation buttons on rollover. Then on rollout of the main container button, they close back to where they were. I have built the buttons and everything works great, the only problem is that on rollover of the internal buttons, the main button senses this as a roll out and plays the rollout animation event (closes the button). How can I make the main button not sense the rollovers of the internal buttons and only play the rollout event on rollout of the main button?
I'm creating a drop down menu and when I addEventListeners to check the clicks on the invisible buttons on frame 19 of the "menu" movieclip, it gives me an error. T really hate doing rollover with actionscripts. The download link for the fla can be found in below. Sorry for posting an external download link as the file is 7mb+! [URL]
