ActionScript 2.0 :: Movie Clips That Point Towards The Mouse?
Apr 23, 2006
i am looking to be able to have a movie clip that always faces the direction of the mouse and don't have the first clue how to do it. all i can guess is that it uses radians in some way.
Then of course both event are captured no matter where i click.Is it possible to capture independent mouse clicks on both of these two movie clips and if so, how can i do that?

I have an empty movie where I load some content (images), but i need the reference to be on bottom right of the content, while flash load the content with reference point at top left. I think that it is possible to change reference point with as2. Working with as2 and flash player ver. 9 on flash cs3.
i'm kinda new to actionscript but im trying to find out how to realise a banner i am making.I have 1 big movieclip thats about 5x larger then what is shown, i have 4 movieclips each on each side of the movieclip, left, right, up and down.The idea is that when i hover on 1 of the movieclips the big movie clip moves that way until the mouse isn't hovering above it or when the movieclip reaches the end of the side.I have given a mouse listener event to each movieclip on the side, the trace works well, but i i don't know how to make the big movieclip move when i hover the side, i hope someone can give me some pointers on how to proceed.
Code:
stop(); import flash.events.MouseEvent; leftMove.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,move_left); function move_left(event_object:MouseEvent) {
If two or move movie clips overlap, everything underneath the top movie clip does not seem to receive mouse events. I tried many things, including setting ".mouseEnabled = false;" on the top movie clip and its constituents, but it still eats up all mouse interaction. Is there a way around this? Listening to all mouse events and using hitTest is not an option in my case.
I am creating a interactive ad and am having problems getting the onMouseDowns to work properly.I have 4 thumbnail images that, when clicked on, need to enlarge and show a caption. My problem is that when the user clicks, it triggers an onMouseDown for all of the image thumbnail movieclips. What should happen is that only the thumbnail that was clicked on should enlarge.How can I isolate the click so that it just triggers the thumbnail movieclip that was actually clicked on? I have to use Actionscript 2 for this.I'm attaching my FLA (CS3) here as well as SWF file.
I have a project in AS2, and my question for that was posted in AS2 thread. But in the meantime, I was considering switching the project entirely to AS3 because AS2 is giving me a headache.
Basically what I need to have is this:
When you rollover the btn "learn how" a toggle window expands and a countdown movie clip starts. When you roll off the btn, the window and movie clip will both disappear. That works perfect. The next part is what is tricky for me. (to better make sense of it, the countdown is there as prep to a graphic movie clip. So if the user sees the countdown and decides they dont want to see the graphic movie, they can simply rollout with the mouse and the clip will go away.
Now...if the countdown plays all the way through... I need the second movie clip to start. The tricky part, is that when that movie clip starts.. it should no longer have the rollout mouse function. I need it to stay there unless the user clicks an Exit out button.. which I haven't done yet, because I have no idea if I can even get that far.
So I want to control a movie clips rotation with the location of the mouse, with easing if possible. But I am having some trouble figuring out where to start
From the Robert Penner code given in this tutorial: [URL] i was wondering why controlx and controly has to be so complicated. I've tried changing it to just _root._xmouse but it messes up. I don't get this, shouldn't the curve point be the same point as the mouse?
i have a bunch of movie clips and in order to make them rotate the way i want i have grouped them together, made the entire group into a movie clip and applied the motion tween. I'm trying to code it so that when i mouse over the movie clips WITHIN the group movie clip, something happens. How would i go about it? All i can work out is how to make the entire group react on mouse over, not the individual movie clips themselves.
I am having a movie clip playing on a loop on the ON frame of a button , and something else on the OVER frame, and everytime i move my mouse to the button it resets the movie clips thats playing. heres my file: [URL]
I am able to disable mouse events on a movie clip with a single frame using the mouseEnable property and setting it to false.However if the movie clip contains multiple frames setting the property to false does not disable the mouse events.Do I need to disable for each frame of the clip? Or is this outside the box for movie clips.I have tried .enable and .mouseChildren to false also.I have alternatives to what I am trying to do so I am trying to determine if I am missing something.this is basically my code, this code will ignore events if I change the movie clip to a single frame.The multiple frame movie clip is made up of 5 frames of bitmap symbols and functions properly.
public class Main extends MovieClip { private var contract1:MovieClip=new CONTRACT ;//multiple frame mc public function Main() {
I'm trying to detect a mouse rollovers on dynamically generated movie clips but I just can't make it work. Only way I can make it work is to put actions inside the duplicated movieclip.
var total = 6; myThumbs = new Array(); for(i=0; i<total; i++) {
[Code]....
Everything works fine except when I roll over the mc the value of this["myThumb"+i] is undefined.
I am trying to make an interactive flash application that works by detecting mouse overs and clicks on various buttons/movie clips and then moves to the appropriate part of the time line. But I am having an issue when I use more than one addEventListener in any one frame. I have attached the code for one such frame below. When I comment out the addEventListner and the other code relating to the followBall function this works fine and directs the user to frame Inlet_Valve_Open_Frame but now only the followBall function is working and when i try to click on the Inlet_Valve_Button movie clip nothing happens.
I have never read all the help files on the adobe flash CS3 as i don't have time and i have built this code up based on examples i have found online. I wanted to include my fla file but it's to big 6Mb. But i have attached the swf so you have an idea what i am doing.
I'd like to control a movie clips current frame by another movie clips action script.I realise the following controls the outside (root) frame time line:
on(release){ _root.gotoAndStop(1); }
but I'm not sure how to apply that to my other movie clip. I'm guessing it would be something like this:
As most of you don't know, I've been creating an rpg game. And, after several tries of art making, etc, I have finally moved back into coding the game. And now, I'm stuck on the equipment system idea. At first, I thought I would just place a bunch of goToAndStop's for each movie clip to go to a frame that has that certain armor piece. This was my first idea for an equipment system. However, after doing some research, and realizing how much lines of code could be saved, I started looking into simply adding and removing movie clips from the character as my new equipment system idea. Now.... on to the problem.
Basic want/ overall achievement wanted: Create an equipment system, which will basically attach movie clips (items) onto characters, which themselves will already be attached movie clips on the stage.
Problem: What is the exact code to do this? And Is there a better way to do this for an equipment system (a less laggy or more efficient way perhaps that I'm not seeing; Check the code below to get a better idea of what I'm talking about)?
Part of the code (or basic idea of code; see comments for extra details
code: //Don't worry I have an OnEnterFrame function here; //attachedObj= the character; figure= the MC name of the character; attachedObj = attachMovie("figure", "figure"+1, 1);
I have multiple movie clips on stage (all in separate layers, of course) as well as buttons on stage to play each movie clip. There are buttons inside each movie clip. The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.
How would one go about masking movie clips that are nested within other movie clips?
I have a photo gallery slider type of thingy that loads jpegs with loadMovie into containers. I can mask the entire movie clip but as for the containers,...well I just dont know whats going on here.
1. I would like to be able to delete one by one the new movie clips
2. I would like to move them all together.... First you press the word green and then click in the blue area.... A green cyrcle will appear.. Click the word green again and then in the blue square and a new green cyrcle will appear. I would like to move the cyrcles with the buttons arrownd the blue square... And when I press delete I would like to delete any cycle I choose... The flash is too large to attach it to the forum, if anyone is interested I can send it by mail.
I messed up some the timing in some parts where there needs to be audio, and I don't want to go to the very back of the timeline and make all my frame sequences fit the audio that way. I want to select all the clips from one point on, drag them back until the audio fits, and then go to the next part the audio doest fit and do the same. Unfortunately, I've spent at least 20-30 minutes googling and trying different things in Flash that haven't worked.
How can I select all the clips on the timeline before a certain point so that I can drag them all back a few seconds? (Without having to shift click all my clips, obviously).
I'm working on a file in Flash MX which random loads and places movie clips, but I'm having problems with the script to delete the clips at a certain point. The flash file: [URL] The code:
I'm having some troubles with an animation I'm working on. Here's what I'm trying to do (in example form): I have a movie clip called "dude". Dude is animated to walk around, then drop a cigar (all inside the movie clip). But the problem is, dude moves, so if you try and move dude as the cigar is dropping, the cigar moves with him. So what I want to do is create a new movie clip instance called "cigar" OUTSIDE of the movie clip dude right as he's dropping it, so that you can move him without moving the cigar. Get it? I've attached another helpful animation to explain.
What I have right now is, on the 13th frame of dude, a few lines of code that create and place an instance of cigar. In that frame I also have an invisible instance of cigar for me to duplicate. Inside of the cigar movie clip is the animation that makes it fall to the ground. I need to change that code so that the instance of cigar is created outside of the movie clip dude. Here's the code I have now (inside of dude, on frame 13):
I have a problem stopping multiple clips. I have created a presentation using flash and I have many movie clips which have sub movie clips inside of them. Ok lets look at one movie clip in detail. Inside one _root movie there are multiple sub movies; each with a different movieclip labels (each movie clip is named with unique labels ie. north, south, east, west, and What I need to do is be able to STOP all these sub movie clips with one stop, and in turn PLAY these same movie clip with a second action.
The only way I know how to stop all these sub movie clips is to target each and every one individually.
What I'm trying to do is have my Flash piece have custom elements set by an XML file. I'm using ColorTransform. I have a piece that's loaded as a separate movie clip, and I can't figure out how to get to the piece and apply the ColorTransform.
Here's one example of what I'm doing for a different element on the same mc.
[code]...
So, in this example, I'm setting header_mc to a color specified in the xml. In the case I'm having trouble with, I want to set a color to a movie clip on the timeline and not the main movie
I am setting up a flash game with seven toggle on/off buttons that all do the same thing.I know how to assign them all to be able to do the same function in the main timeline. What I can't figure out is how to get them all to also do the same function within each of their respective movie clips.
