ActionScript 2.0 :: [mx] Path To Dynamic Textfield In Loaded Movie?

Aug 22, 2003

I'm trying to access the dynamic textfield of a swf loaded into an empty movie clip created in the main timeline.I understand how to manipulate a dynamic textfield in the main timeline, but trying to access the dynamic textfield of an external swf loaded into an empty movie clip results in failure. I guess I'm mainly having problems understanding the path structure involved.

createEmptyMovieClip('menu0',1);
menu0.loadMovie('menubg.swf');
menu0.kitten.text="hello"; //where kitten is the instance name of the dynamic textfield in the external swf

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Loaded SWFs Dynamic TextField

Mar 9, 2010

In my main swf I load preloader swf that contains two layers on time line. First layer is gradient shape and second layer is dynamic text field with instance name preloaderTxt that I am trying to access. Well I load it with success and in event complete I have this code:
Code:
preloader = new Sprite();
preloader = Sprite(loader.content);
preloaderHolder = new Sprite();
stage.addChild(preloaderHolder);
preloaderHolder.addChild(preloader);

I tried this:
trace(preloader.getChildAt(1));
trace(preloader.getChildAt(1).name);
First trace is: [object TextField]
Second trace is: preloaderTxt

But when I try to set its text property like this:
Code:
preloader.getChildAt(1).text = "test"
i get this error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property text through a reference with static type
Code:
flash.display:DisplayObject.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Passing Xml Loaded Text To External Swfs Dynamic Textfield

Feb 21, 2007

i'm pulling my hair over this. i have sucessfully (verified) loaded an xml file and can trace the data i'd like to pass. i am loading the external swf into an empty mc called X. in the external swf i am loading is a mc and in there is a dynamic textfield. i give the content of the xml to the path to the dynamic textfield and nothing happens. trying to pass the variable with: target.text = content;

i listed the variables and objects in the test movie debug option (command+enter) and i can see the dynamic text box variable. then i took copied the path from the output window to my actionscript, replaced _level0 with _root but still to no avail. what am i doing wrong? do i have to publish the swf being loaded in a certain way? why am i able to look at the variables in the debug list variables and objects option, but not in the actionscript?

Dynamic Text Loaded From .txt Controlling Movie Clip?

Aug 26, 2009

Basically when loading dynamic text... the .txt will have a simple yes or no inside of it... nothing more nothing less.I've been trying all morning to get a movie clip to begin playing if the value is "yes", and to NOT play if the value is "no"

Basically i have a movie clip on the main time line named WHM. and im loading a dynamic text file into a dynamic text field named player1whm.

I want to be able to change the text file to yes or no on a whim, and if the value is equal to yes... i want the movie clip to begin playing as soon as it loads that value into the box. If it says no then i want that movie clip to continue doing nothing.I have already been successful at getting yes or no to load into the dynamic text box... i just cant seem to get it to control the movie clip.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Scrolling Dynamic Movie Loaded Via AttachMovie?

Sep 9, 2005

What I have is a news blogger that is loaded via xml which uses php to write to the xml file. I have my "blogger" movie clip that loads all of the different blogger info into it. It is loaded into a blank container movie clip via attachMovie and when the user adds a new blog it creates new instance of it and moves the rest down. All works great with that.

Now the problem is after the client creates more then 3 blogs, it begins to run off the site. So what I need to do is put it into a scroller. Now I have gotten it into the scroller but it seems that the scroller is not seeing the actual size of the container clip that is holding all of these instances of the "blog" movie that is loaded from attachMovie. The size will change depending on how many blogs there are and I need to figure out how to add script to calculate that. Here is the code I have to load the "blogitem" movie into the blank container movie.

Code:
var i = 0;
if (gateXML.hasChildNodes())
{
child = gateXML.firstChild;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Data Into A Dynamic Textbox Thats Nested In A Loaded Movie Clip

Jul 25, 2010

Well this is the problem right here. In my flash movie, I made it so a member from my PunBB Forum can login using their login information from the forum, This is using the LoadVars and it loads the variables into flash and displays the username. In the php script i made it so it will display profile information that user has on the forum, this is where the problem comes in.. I can trace the data perfectly fine in the output panel when you are successfully logged into flash.

I can also display the data in Dynamic text boxes IF they are on the main stage.. I need to be able to load the data of the user inside of a movie clip.. that is loaded when you click "User Profile" on the menu, Once the movie is loaded, no data is displayed. Yes i have all the instance names and paths correct, but no matter what i do I cannot load the data into this movie clip. So me thinking it just wouldnt work, I tried making a profile page on a different keyframe in the timeline, That also did not load the data onto another frame.

Flash :: Loaded Font Doesn't Show Up When Parent Swf Creates TextField In Loaded Child Swf

Im working on a project that has a main swf file associated with the document class. It loads XML that provides the text content for the project, then it loads a swf that contains a font in its library, then it loads the first of several content module swfs. When the font swf has inited, I'm registering its library font with Font.registerFont(), and using it in a TextFormat object. After everything is done, I can add code to the document class to create a text field on the stage of the main swf and format it successfully with the TextFormat object, but when I try to do the same thing inside the loaded content module swf, the text doesn't show up there at all.

Actionscript 2 :: Clickable Links In A Scrolling HTML Enabled Dynamic Textfield In Flash Movie - Works In Flash Pro Not In Browser?

Dec 13, 2010

I have developed a rolling credits style movieclip in Flash using Actionscript 2. Text is loaded from an XML file and parsed into a dynamic textfield. This text includes hyperlinks to webpages defined by a url node in the xml so Flash can add the appropriate a href to the dynamic text field and make the link clickable.

In my first attempts to do this the textfield stayed still and all the links worked fine both testing locally and when I run it in a browser on my website.Then I wanted to make things move ... which I achieved easily enough and tested locally (from within Flash Professional) and the links remained clickable, a browser window opened and the webpage i was expecting to see opened... great

However, when I export the swf, upload it and run it from my website suddenly the links are not working. So I tried to test the movie in a browser from Flash Pro - same problem, it must be something to do with Flash Player and the moving dynamic textfield.

a couple of observations - the cursor will change to a hand icon when over the links as you would expect, and if I right click on the link and click open in a new window the link works ok, just not when I left click. If I stop the scrolling then the links become clickable again, it is only when the textfield is moving... actually its not technically scrolling, im moving the whole textfield.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Send Data From Dynamic Text Field On Stage To Dynamic Textfield In Mc?

Sep 28, 2010

I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.

-input1 is for quantity

-input2 is for page count

When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Relative Path In Externally Loaded SWF?

Oct 14, 2009

I have a flash movie (let's call it B.swf) that loads an XML file which is located in the same directory to provide some data. This flash movie works fine itself. Now, I've made another flash movie, a main movie (let's call it A.swf), which loads different SWF's in turn, including the aforementioned one B.swf (which now would be located along with the XML file in a subdirectory).

To my surprise, I've checked that now I get an error, as the path I specified for the XML file in B.swf is not valid anymore when B.swf is loaded from A.swf. The relative path from which it's searching for the file is the directory where A.swf is located, not the one where B.swf is located, as happened when this movie was executed standalone.

Is there any way to fix this so that I don't have to change the path I specified in the code and I can use B.swf either way externally loaded or standalone?

Flash :: Dynamic MC's Path With LocalToGlobal?

Sep 27, 2010

I'm adding several instances of an MC (bread_mc) into a container MC (wall_mc). wall_mc has been added to a shop class and that is where i'm called the rest of my functions from. I really don't even know if i'm using it right, But I think my problem lies in the fact that I need the currMC path to travel up the display list tree and get the global stage X/Y position. I'm not too sure how to implement a dynamic path with the localToGlobal method.

Played Zuma? How the motion path was set. I would assume that it was not timeline animation but I could be wrong. My thoughts are that pretty much any simplistic shape can be represented mathematically so it shouldn't be too hard to set up some formula to represent XY over time. My other thought was that the XY coords for the path are setup in a XML or database that the balls basically move through coordinates linearly speaking.

Movie Can't Find Linked Movie - Path?

Oct 15, 2009

OK, I've spent a few very frustrating hours trying to figure out a solution that's probably staring me in the face. I have one movie (Intro.swf) that loads a second movie (ncjhs_Menus.swf) with drop down menus. Intro has a movie clip with the following script in it:

var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader);
var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ncjhs_Menus.swf"); myLoader.load(url);

Both the Intro .swf and the ncjhs_menus.swf files are saved in a subdirectory called Flash off the root. The html file generated by flash is saved in the root. When done that way the Intro file runs but does not manage to get the menus file to load. If however I save the html file into the same Flash diretcory as the two .swf files then everything works fine and Intro can call the menu .swf file.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Text On Sine Curve Path?

Mar 16, 2005

Basically I need to have text from a dynamic/input textfield to appear in a wavy line pattern automatically. Now I'm pretty sure it can be done fairly easily with the right knowledge but I unfortunately lack that knowledge.

The idea I had was that a string is broken into individual letters and each is placed along a sine curve of a set length/width - the string/characters are repeated if necessary in order that the full width of the curve is covered. Also note that the text need not be rotated to match the lines, only _x and _y values need to be adjusted.

I have to produce a design with dynamic text similar to this (my ascii art skills are crap so please imaging that these are wavy lines rather than zig zags):

/////////////////
/////////////////
/////////////////
/////////////////
/////////////////

I have nothing to offer apart from the satisfaction of producing a wavy text pattern and from knowing that you have saved me from a breakdown.
