Movie Can't Find Linked Movie - Path?

Oct 15, 2009

OK, I've spent a few very frustrating hours trying to figure out a solution that's probably staring me in the face. I have one movie (Intro.swf) that loads a second movie (ncjhs_Menus.swf) with drop down menus. Intro has a movie clip with the following script in it:

var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader);
var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ncjhs_Menus.swf"); myLoader.load(url);

Both the Intro .swf and the ncjhs_menus.swf files are saved in a subdirectory called Flash off the root. The html file generated by flash is saved in the root. When done that way the Intro file runs but does not manage to get the menus file to load. If however I save the html file into the same Flash diretcory as the two .swf files then everything works fine and Intro can call the menu .swf file.

Professional :: Linked Movie Keeps Looping?

Mar 19, 2010

I have a main movie on my site with buttons that display linked movies in the right half of that main movie. One of the movies is the kind that I only want to play through once, then stop. In the FLA file of that linked movie I've put a stop(); action in the final frame, and when played alone it stops accordingly. But when it plays as a linked movie, it continues to loop. What can I do about this?  The button script on the movie doing the importing is:

on (press) {gotoAndStop("flash_dev");
flash_mc.loadMovie("cubeintro.swf");
clearInterval(_root.myInterval); }

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Linked Movie Clip Via DOT Syntax?

I have a movie clip that exists only in the library linked to a scrollpane component using its linkage identifier (the name of this MC is content_mc). It scrolls perfectly. However, in the movie clip there are additional movie clips I would like to control (green_mc), but for that I need to be able to access them using DOT syntax. How can this be done? I'm assuming that since the movie clip in the library has "export in first frame" checked that I would be able to access it somehow like this[code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Two Movie Clips Each Is Linked With Action Script File?

Jan 22, 2010

I got a problem, there I have two movie clips each is linked with action script file. The first movie clip "level screen" has a loop (code is not shown there) in it's code which addChild a lot of same icons (but each has different number) and add them to array levelArray. Then when I click a icon, for example one with nmber 31, it addChild the other movie clip "main screen" and send it a variable "levelNumber" with value 31, so mainScreen could then addChild a level 31. Below is the code for levelScreen checking what icon is being clicked and taking right actions. However first I will write how i imagined this to work step-by-step

1. The timer activates the loop over and over again, so when it comes to end, it starts again.

2. The loop loops through array called levelArray, in which all icons are stored.

3. Inside the loop it first defines a variable checkIcon which is the icon at which the loop is.

4. Now there the things get complicated, I want to add a MouseEvent listener to icon, if it would be triggered the function "onLevelButtonClick" should be executed, and the I want to remove the listener again, so I wont have 1000 listeners on same icon after some time.

5. And the function dispatch event which add main screen and send it a variable levelNumber, which should be number of icon clicked.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Find The X-y Coordinates Of The Attached Movie Clip Within The Created Movie Clip?

Mar 26, 2006

Q1) The registration point of a created clip is top left - my question is how can I dynamically change it's registration point - say to center center?

(I am trying to attach a movie clip to a created clip and I wanted it to be centered inside the container - a related sub-question, how can I find the x-y coordinates of the attached movie clip within the created movie clip?)

Q2)When I tried to create two different movie clips, I found I had to create them at different depths, else the first would load and the second would not. Why would that be so? I'm on MX 2004 Pro.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Path From One Movie Clip To Another

May 8, 2003

This is entirely about variables, not controlling the clips. I thoroughly understand the path from level 0 to any clip, but can't seem to figure out a path from one clip to another. _root.myclip1.myclip2 and etc work great, but when I try to address myclip1 from myclip2 it won't work. I have been required to use_global.variable to get variables to show up in one movie clip when it was generated in another clip. Here is an example. If I say that a=3 at level 0, it can easily be addressed in level1 with var a = _root.a but if it is generated in any movie clip, such as myclip2 then I can't get at it in myclip1 without the _global variable. I want to set a = 3 in myclip2 and be able to see it in myclip1 with some sort of path.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Movie Clips To Follow Path?

I am just learning action script so my understanding of it is extremely basic. I don't necessarily need all the code just conceptualize how this would be done. I don't want to use the time line (if that's not possible just let me know).The only things I can think of would be to have the images move on a path or painfully swap out the buttons for new ones that look exactly the same but move different clips for each scenario.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Find Distance Between 2 Movie Clips?

Jun 28, 2011

How does Flash use Math.sqrt to get the distance between 2 movieclips? In the example the only givens are 2 points along a triangle:

function getDistance(x1:Number,y1:Number,x2:Number,y2:Numbe r):Number {
var dx:Number=x1-x2;
var dy:Number=y1-y2;
return Math.sqrt(dx*dx+dy*dy);
}

dx is the difference between the x coordinates of 2 points/2 mc's
dy is the difference between the y coordinates of the same 2 points
the Math.sqrt is the Pythagorean theorum

If the Pythagorean theorum is a^2+b^2=c^2 for the sides of a triangle how do 2 points achieve the same result if the lengths of the sides aren't given?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Target Path To Movie Clip Element Of A Button?

Jul 16, 2004

I'm trying to figure out how to use AS to access frames of a movie clip within a button symbol (using Flash MX 2004), and I seem to be stuck. I drafted a small test version of the FLA I'm working on, and it is attached to this message.

Specifically, my intention is to have a two-state button that goes into "selected mode" after the first mouse click, and then goes back to normal after a 2nd click. I can already handle the functional aspect of this using a global boolean like the one in the attached file. The problem is that I want to represent the current status of the button with a visual change; in the attached example FLA, the intention was to change the color of the text label on this button from grey to red when the button is in its "selected" state.

In this forum I found a similar question where someone had provided a "menu.fla" that had a row of buttons that acted more or less like a radio set, which is somewhat similar to my need. I've been trying to use the same sort of method, having converted the "up" state of the button text into a movie clip symbol with two frames (one for each state), and then trying to use AS to do a "gotoAndStop()" on the desired frame of the up label animation. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to actually make this work ... no matter what sort of path I try to use to get to the movie clip animation within the button, I cannot seem to set the text animation to jump to the "selected" frame (2).

I think my problem is that I've been unable to glean any understanding from the Flash MX docs about the differences between an object name and a symbol name and an identifier and an instance name and a blah blah blah, or about which of them (if any) actually is an ID that can be accessed via ActionScript. Also, MX 2004 seems to provide almost no compile-time error checking on the validity of a target path either, so I've been reduced to just throwing every combination at it that I can think of. None have worked, so I'm at a loss.

If anyone can explain to me why the attached FLA doesn't cause the text to stay red after a mouse click, no matter which of the commented out lines I try, it would undoubtedly be a big help to me.

(Please note that the button in this FLA uses a basic flashing animation for mouseovers ... it was just something quick to implement to emulate the mouseover animation in my full file, so please don't be distracted by it. Also note that I haven't tried to implement any code to return the button to a non-selected status yet. One thing at a time.)

RESOLVED: It was apparently the nesting of a movieclip inside of a button that prevented the original target path from working (and one of the tutorials at this website seems to support that). Once I knew what the proper path syntax was and didn't have to worry about that part anymore, eventually the rest fell into place pretty easily once I started using a movieclip for the button rather than an actual button.
