ActionScript 2.0 :: Prevent Mouse Being Able To Roll Over A Movie Clip?
Apr 23, 2009Is there a way to prevent the mouse being able to roll over a movie clip?

View 1 RepliesI am looking for ActionScript 2 code that makes a movie clip disappear when a user moves their mouse over a particular area and then have the movie clip reappear when the mouse leaves that area.
ie. if the mouse is within _x.50 , _x.200, _y.50 , and _y.200 the mc is invisible, else its visible.
I think it would be some kind of "if" statement but I don't know syntax on how to code this.
I have a graphic that when rolled over it starts a movie clip, when rolled out or off I would like the clip to instead of stop actually roll the movie back whether the clip is at the end or not. Like an animated button I would guess.
View 1 RepliesI want to be able to make a movie clip (that acts as a button) so the roll over effect finishes before the roll off effect is triggered. Like if a marker circles a button, i want the circling animation to stop before the roll off effects happens. Anyone know how to do this.
View 2 RepliesDoes anyone know how to prevent one movie clip from superimposing on another movie clip?I've got a thumbnails m/c(when clicked to show a bigger pic of that thumbnail in the middle of the screne) that superimposes on another thumbnail m/c.
Both m/c's have larger pics of their respected thumbnails, but when one is clicked from one m/c and a thumbnail is clicked from the other m/c their pics are both on screen.
I have a menu bar that has 2 Drop down menus. Each drop down is a separate movie clip, with 3 buttons inside that are separate movie clips. I have a class set to the buttons that are movie clips for a roll over effect. But when I mouse over it does not work. Also on the main time line I tried to add a like to a web page but it did not work. But I only have this problem with the movie clips that are inside the drop down movie clips.
Why is this? How do I add roll over actions and external links to movie clips that are inside of another movie clip? I really need some help this is a problem I have been having for about a month or more. I am still a AS3 newb and this is my first time using classes. The other classes I have work with everything else, Im just having trouble with the movie clips that are inside movie clips.
Basically I have a button and when i scroll over the button, the movie then follows the mouse, which is fine. But when I click it, I want it to stay under the mouse. I have given it the same actionscript on the 'down' state to follow the mouse, but it starts from a certain point. I don't want it to start from that point; I want it to stay the same wherever the mouse is when I click it.
So basically, the button follows and when I click, it stays in the same place.
So I have a menu that fades in on a movie clip rollover. It fades out when the mouse rolls out over a 'hit area' mc. All is working fine except when you move fast off the hit area. Sometimes the fade in menu remains up when the mouse should have traveled over the hit area and told it to fade out... any reccomendations to remedy this?
View 3 RepliesI am doing some interactive file when i click a movieClip it should stop at frame 4 and when it is roll over it goto frame2 and when i roll Out it should come back to frame 1. But the problem is when i click a movie clip it should no roll out.
View 6 Replies-The problems i'm having with my code is: 1. when the movie loads, the clip is playing initially when it should be stopped until the mouse rolls over it. Once the mouse rolls over it once, it works perfectly from that point on2. when I put a stop code in, the movieclip isnt looping initially(which is what I want), but now when you roll over the button, the clip will play once and not continue looping(I need the rollover function as kind of a "pause" buttonHere's my code:
mcCircle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mcCircle_onMouseOver);
function mcCircle_onMouseOver(e:MouseEvent):void{
play();

Movie Clip ActionScript For Roll Over Sound?? have Done this tutorial And i was wondering if anyone could tell me the ActionScript for sounds effects when you roll over it?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to make the switch from AS2 to AS3 (with some difficulty I should add). I used to make a movie clip, create a roll over animation and apply this code to it"
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (this.hitTest(_root._xmouse, _root._ymouse)) {
this.nextFrame();
[Code]....
How would i acheive this code with AS3, I haven't been able to find anything on the forums or googling that has actually worked.
im trying to create a button that roles over with the user places the cursor on it the actual object "PhotoshopOver" is in the movieclip "Gallery:

i want to go to a frame when i roll over a movie clip (A) but instead of just the cursor i want to pick up and drag another clip (B) over (A) to make it happen. i already have the drag and drop script, i just need help with the MC rollover MC
View 1 RepliesI have MovieClip A on stage, that when the user rolls over it another MovieClip (B) is added above it to the stage (it's not added as a child of Movieclip A). Now, when the user rolls over this newly added clip, it triggers the roll out event of the clip 'below' it. So, how can I prevent this from happening ?Basically, it's a movieclip that displays a button when rolled over and hides it when rolled out. I need the roll out NOT to be triggered when the user rolls over movieclip B.
View 6 RepliesI'm a newbie at Flash, so started playing with a pretty standard code sample: one layer contains a movie clip with a flying rectangle, another layer has a button to control it. All script code is in Main.as file. The rectangle was named square1 through the Property window. Here is the problem: the constructor for Main has a line: square1.stop(); to prevent clip from playing, but it doesn't help - it plays. I know the constructor fires, because it has trace("stuff") in it. The code does check that the stage has been created.
What strange is that square1.currentFrame always returns 1, and square1.totalFrames returns 1 as well. The layer has 24 frames on the timeline. I tried a tween with just 2 keyframes, then converted whole tween into frames - same result. I mean, the thing is flying before my eyes, how can it be 1 frame???
I even added a listener: square1.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onFrameChange); The event fires all the time, i.e. the frames change, but currentFrame is still 1. Also, tried to name individual frames and use square1.gotoAndStop("begin") and stuff like that. I am really stuck with this stupid problem.
I am pretty new to ActionScript 3 and Flash. I don't want my movie clip to play unless the person's mouse curser is on the movie clip for more than a second. If the person just runs their curser over the movie clips really quickly, then it should do nothing. It must be more than a second. How do I code that?

I am using a flash swf from the website[url]...where it allows me to upload images via an xml file to the flash movie. However the flash movie is changing the mouse cursor to hand-cursor when passing the mouse on it, and also it is allowing users to click on the movie, while I wanted to leave the mouse cursor to remain as an arrow, and prevent users from clicking on it, I tried the following code, whereby I used another flash movie to call the dewslider swf, but in IE it is not working, although in firefox it is ok..[code]...
View 4 RepliesI have a map application that when I use the mouse wheel the map will scale up or scale down. The next thing I want to do is to focus on the mouse pointer while zooming on the part of the map.
I have this code...
function focusMousePosition(){ onMouseMove = function (){ Stage.width = _root._xmouse; Stage.height = _root._ymouse; updateAfterEvent(); }}
var mouseWheelListener = new Object();var wheelNum:Number;
mouseWheelListener.onMouseWheel = function(wheelNum){ focusMousePosition(); if (wheelNum > 0){ map._xscale *= 0.9; map._yscale *= 0.9; }else{ map._xscale *= 1.1; map._yscale *= 1.1; }}Mouse.addListener(mouseWheelListener);
Is it possible to use a movie clip to block the mouse from activating the stage MOUSE_OVER event?
View 4 RepliesI have a series of thumbnails that should scroll from left to right & right to left when you roll over the movie clip buttons on either side. IT was working in another flash movie, but I moved it to a different flash file and now it's not working. The hit buttons within the movie clip buttons have this action script:

I'm trying to prevent a default chart item roll over highlight in a Spark column chart.If you look at any of the chart examples on this page , when you roll over any of the chart series items, they turn a darkened shade of their original colour. This is what I want to prevent.
So far I have had no luck with using the itemRollOverColor property, as this only allows you to set it to one specific colour for the whole chart (my app has several different coloured series on the chart at once). Also, trying to leverage the itemRollOver event (with preventDefault() etc) hasn't worked either.
I want to reduce the alpha of a movie clip when mouse is rollOver the movie , the alpha will be continuously reducing over frames, i dont want to use tween.
[Code]...
i this code when i rollOver the mouse on a movie clip, it shows the alpha reducing over time , and at roll out alpha increases over time. but if i rollOver and rollOut in fractions of seconds , it flickers (like 60-100 instead of from the current alpha lvl), So i am looking for some code that can help me in fixing this problem.
i'm kinda new to actionscript but im trying to find out how to realise a banner i am making.I have 1 big movieclip thats about 5x larger then what is shown, i have 4 movieclips each on each side of the movieclip, left, right, up and down.The idea is that when i hover on 1 of the movieclips the big movie clip moves that way until the mouse isn't hovering above it or when the movieclip reaches the end of the side.I have given a mouse listener event to each movieclip on the side, the trace works well, but i i don't know how to make the big movieclip move when i hover the side, i hope someone can give me some pointers on how to proceed.
Code:
stop();
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
leftMove.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,move_left);
function move_left(event_object:MouseEvent) {

Truly basic question I know but I can't seem to find an answer elsewhere and you don't even want to know how long I've spent on this. I'm trying to create a button that plays a movie clip and stops when it's moused over. I've attached a file (.fla) that illustrates my problem. I'm working in CS4 Flash (not sure if that's the same as MX04?
View 1 RepliesI have been trying to do something in Flash that I thought would be easy. I have created a movie clip with several frames and have tried to add a MouseOver MouseOut rollover to change from frame 1 to frame 2 whenever you roll over the movie clip. It doesn't work. It doesn't even seem to recognise any actionscript whatsoever within the flash file.If I change the movieclip to a button then suddenly everything does work as I want it to.
View 8 RepliesIn flex what is the difference between rollover and mouseover?
it occurs first rollover, then mouseover,then mouseout, then rollout. when these events most suitable?
I created a flash cs3 animation with about 6 layers.
I am going to place the .swf file into an html page I created with Dreamweaver. I want the swf file to only start playing when the user puts the mouse over it...and then stop when they take the mouse off. I know this needs to be done in the actionscript 3 in my flash document.
I thought it was something like this:
stop();
addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, playMovie);
function playMovie(event)
{
play();
}
