Is it possible to create a search button inside of a "button" symbol? aaaaaaand have it only appear on the "over" state of the button?
What I want to do is have an image and then when the mouse hovers over it, it reveals (over the image) a search field where you can then enter information and search. I don't want the search box to be revealed when the mouse isn't hovering over it. I've tried alpha, everything.
I am trying to create a search field in AS3 to search keywords in a dynamic text field of the same flash movie, where the text is loaded from an XML file.
I want to make a search button on my site. I have a bunch of pdf files in a specific location on my site. I want to create a search field where the end user inputs text into a field and flash locates and opens the corresponding pdf file.
here's what I want to do: I need a simple CV search function for a small site. There will be two fields: on the first field the user will input a Name or Surname and on the second field the script should return one or more results taken from a pool of names + surnames that should be clickable links to the respective .htm page of each cv. Is this possible?

I've got a dynamic text field in my button object. I have named the text field "myText". How can I modify the text within it? myButton.myText.text = "test"; won't work, because it can't access myText.
I have a problem with a button.It has 4 keyframe and a text field with the same instance name "myText".I use this button in a MC, and its instance name is "myBtn".I'm trying to change myText with actionscript in the MC without any results.Debugging it I find a text field insiede this button named "instance6", so i think there is some problem with instance name.
I trying with: trace(myBtn.myText); and it says "undefined"!
How can i correctly give instance name to this text field?Is there any way to find out the name of the instance of an object (the text field) knowing the instance name of its parent (the button)?
I've started a project a while ago, so far it is almost done but there is something that I seem not to be able to do alone... I would like to add a search function which I don't know how to do.It will not be a normal search function so I am going to try to beak it down with an easy example:
Let's say I did a project that is embeded somewhere in a normal html page with a main menu from where you can get to different city maps (e.g. New York, Paris, Berlin). The maps are seperate swfs. On all those maps there are several buttons for historical sites (or whatever) with a mousover function and a link to a page with more information about that specific site (on html).the names of the buttons are always a letter and a number (New York: "N1","N2","N3"...; Paris: "P1","P2","P2"... instance name for P1 is p1_btn)
What I need now is a search field in the main menu where you can search for those buttons. Meaning if I type in "N2" and hit search it will take me to the New York swf and show me button "N2".
I know this might not make much sense like this but the actual version is quite different and more complicated context-wise. Therefore if possible I would like to leave it that way with the main menu, the linked swfs and the buttons.
create a search field using Flash 5. I am currently using the search robot, just like the kirupa website. On registering your website, they give you a HTML code, which you put inside the variables of the search field. So when the user types in what he's searching for, he clicks "go" and then the next page is "Powered by and then the results of the search.Now I wanna know how I can simulate this in Flash 5, with the search results displayed in a normal HTML file, once the "go" button is clicked.I am creating an input text field and then a button saying "go". How do I set the variables in the search field to look up the search robot?
I have a search field that searches on key press...so you type b and it will automatically return all the words that start with b....if you type ba it will return all the words that start with ba....and so on and so forth...what I want to do is put a delay of one or two seconds before the search actually starts after the user STOPS typing...because with large lists I am experiencing lag...so I want the search to start once the person stops typing...here is what I have...
what i would like to do is create a search field that as the user types in the search bar if there are any matching entries in the list, the focus/selection jumps to that particular item in list. i don't want to clear the list just go to the item that matches.i would like it to be predictive so if i have these entries:and the user types "s" in the search box to the first "s" entry in the list (samson) is selected, if they type "se" the selection jumps to the first entry with "se" in it (seek) if they type "seet" the selection jumps to "seether" and so on.i have absolutely no idea how to do it, but more importantly...is this possible? I'm working on a dictionary using Flash components. I'm trying to implement a search field, I manage to filter word and letters, as you do on goggle. What I need is to filter from the beginning of the word as you do on a Dictionary.
I have a datagrid and a search field. I've set the change event of the search field to run the filterfunction of the datagrid. I'm able to match the entire term, but I'd like to be able to use a regular expression to do a progressive search (e.g., "Pe" matches "Peter"). I tried to create a regular expression to compare the fields, but I can't seem to get it to work. How do I return the results of the RegExp? Here's the function as it currently stands
For this flash project I have a search engine that searches a XML database. This part I finally got working, but what I haven't managed to get to work yet is implement it with an input text field.
I have a standard array with some text items and some numbers.
Here is an array item
ge: 65, (no quotes around this number)
Here is the DataProvider line (the section that applies to my example)
DataProvider([{label:"over 60", data: 65}]);
Here is the search line
for (var n; int = 0; n<arrayname.length; n++
arrayname[n]. Age == search_age.selectedItem.data
This works fine because the array number MATCHES the selectedItem data number (65) exactly and I get all records where age is 65
BUT I want to find records whose age is any number "greater than 60"
I have tried many ways to use the > sign and keep getting an error, example:
DataProvider([{label:"over 60", data: >60}]); or DataProvider([{label:"over 60", data: (>60)}]); or DataProvider([{label:"over 60", data: >(60}]);
None of these work.
Maybe these aren't numbers? I've tried putting 'int' in various positions with no results. I'm using a DataGrid which works fine for text items and will find numbers without quotes around them (if those numbers match whats in the array!).
What's the way to write this so I can get records greater than, or less than, etc.?
I want to take a static text field, convert it into a button, and use it as a button. I need it static, because I changed orientation, and I do not know how to do that otherwise. The problem is, even though I converted it to a Button symbol, it does not work when I test the movie. It works fine with "Enable simple buttons", but when I test it, the button is not there, no change in mouse cursor, no reaction at all.So this is what I did:
Made text. // static, not selectable, Orientation: vertical left to right, / //rotated; Two filters: Drop Shadow and Glow;
Converted text field to Button - Symbol (scrollBT)
Editing the Button,I put the same content (the static text field) in all four frames: No luck, not working. without the Hit frame filled (which I think doesn't really make a difference): No luck, not working.Tried again, converting the static text field in the button into a Graphic Symbol: No luck, not working.Tried again, and put some differences in the frames for "ON" and "OVER" etc.: No luck, not working.Tried again, duplicating a similar, working button, edited it, and: No luck, not working.
To the button itself and the AS: The button will be a scroll-button for a text field, with different scroll speeds on rollover and press, but nothing else. The code for that I have (I think). It's something like (and please excuse my incorrect syntax here, but I'm typing from memory; still, I use the Script-Assistant and my syntax is apparently correct; it's also working with other buttons):
on {rollOver} { function (scroll) { textfieldtxt.scroll - = 1;}[code]....
I'm at the end of my wits. The only difference I can tell from other (working) buttons I did the same way, is that the scrollBt does not do anything except scrolling, while all of the others have frame actions (gotoAndplay etc.) associated with them.
I have a button inside another button which is inside a movieclip. *whew*I have it so that when you click on the movieclip, a dialog box pops up. I have two buttons on the dialog box, but for some reason you can't click on them and when you do, the dialog box just disappears. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, so how do i get the "YES/NO" buttons to work? Oh, the buttons are not included in that Graphic
I am in need of creating a search button for my flash project. I have created a single .fla file and from that I publish a single executable file. Within this project are various amounts of information on diffferent frames. How can i create a search box on my maing frame that when inputted into it will search my project for the text entered?
I've just tried senocular's xml tutorials. [URL] The search query seems case sensitive. How to make it accept upper and lower case characters. Actually i'm trying to make a search by myself by using the same code.
I have a bit of a problem because i'm new to as3 and want to create a field around the object in which it could later on notice things. Things inside this field are seen and those outside not.
Im creating a website for a client who wants to be able to update it themselves and so i'm using AS3 to create a textfield which calls text from a txt file to display and uses the UIScrollbar to scroll the area. What i'm wondering is, is it possible to load images into this same textfield so they are easily added and updated (like the text is) and so they scroll with the text as if it were all one part?
I have a bunch of pdf files in a specific location on my site (mysite.com/pdf).
I want to create a search field where the end user inputs text into a field and flash locates and opens the corresponding pdf file (mysite.com/pdf/myfile.pdf).
