View 1 RepliesI simply want to call in some loaded movies with my main swf and then be able to swap them when they are pressed. When I load my external movies into the main movie should I be putting them in separate "empty" clips? If I don't, each time I load a movie it replaces the current movie in the "empty" clip. Where do I put the code that will make the movie that is pressed come to the front? On the movie that is coming in? or the movie that it is loading into? It seems that a simple my_mc.swapDepth(x) should work? For (x) I would like to specify a number because there might be more than two clips that I would like to load in....

View 1 Repliests an interactive gallery where when a photo is selected it plays the movie clip and the photo grows to fill the screne. The problem is, since the animations take part within the movie clips and all the movie clips exist on the same layer when they are selected and grow to fill the screne they are being hidden behind all the movieclips infront of it in that layer I know that there is an action to bring movieclips to the highestdepth or to front on click/release but i do not have a clue where to start
View 5 Replies*I can't post the file due to the company policy, so I'll do my best to explain. 3 movie clips: slide 1, 2, and 3. Each loads an external image.
Layers (how I have them set up):
slide 1
slide 2
slide 3
The slides have a 3d feel, as if they are in the distance. When the user clicks one, the slide(mc) motion-tweens towards the screen, while the other 2 stay back. Obviously, if slide 2 comes towards the screen then slide 1 will be over top of it DUE TO layer structure (above). And of course, 1 & 2 will be over slide 3. To get around this I made a "current" layer over top of all the slide layers. So if I click on slide 2/3 then the tween is up on the "current" layer instead of the "slide 2/3" layer so that it's the highest.

I use this line to bring an object foward, but if i want to bring it to the front of its own layer only. setChildIndex(helpmenu,numChildren - 1)
View 4 RepliesIts been a while since I've done anything in AS3. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I am working on a type of menu where there are 6 cards and on roll over of one of the cards it is brought to the front of the stack. What is the correct method of doing this in AS3? Can someone post a quick example or point me in the right direction to a link that does a good job covering this. I did a quick search and didn't find anything right away that did a good job explaining so I thought I would head over to AS.org

I have a timeline animation various movie clips with play bk and forward controllers for when it is pressed it display (grows, rotates etc), is there anyway of having it so on each layer there is a swap depth command to make whichever button is pressed make the mc's appear at the top?
View 1 RepliesI have this script I am writing where when someone hovers over a button it displays a popup box until they roll off. I have that function working alright, but I need the movie clips to swap depths, I realize I can do this with setChildIndex but I'm running into a small problem with my children/parent situation.
My items are added as such:
root > color_mc (blue or red or whatever) > button (this is the hover)
I have the event listener added to the button for each color, but I need it so that when the button is rolled over, it takes the color_mc and moves it to the -1 spot. I've tried writing the code a number of ways but can't seem to get it.

That code gives me the following error:
Error #1069: Property numChildren not found on String and there is no default value.
This should be interesting in explaining what it is i'm looking for. I have multiple buttons on top of each other. And when the hit state on the other side of the screen is rolled over the text will change, which are all overlapping each other. Would swap depths be the best answer for this to bring the one I'm rolling over to the top? And how would I implement it into my for Loop? I'm using the for Loop for my navigation:

I'm trying to find a way to integrate swap depths with map scrolling. Here is my current code:

The problem lies within the fact that the bounds are pushing away the player too fast for Flash to finish cycling through the array of items.
So I'm placing all my code on the timeline so I don't have to change the code on every single button in my Flash. Here's the code that I am using.

is it possible to swap depths for multiple movie clips at the same time? how about swapping for negative depths? or will that kind of thing lead me into probs later?

I am making a photo gallery with thumbnails and when the mouse rolls over them, they increase in size. Problem: when they increase, they do not cover the other thumbnails completely, since it is only an _xscale percentage increase and not a new movie clip. So you can see all the other thumbnails over the increased photo size. It is a problem of swapping depths I'm sure--but do I have to take off all the thumbnails from the main level and load them dynamically onto different levels in order to be able to swap depths?

View 4 RepliesI have two main clips with clickable clicks within each. I am using swapDepths on the two main clips in a tab navagation fashion. The problem is that if I click on the space between the nested clips in the top clip it actually is hitting the buttons(movieclips) on the other clip under it. Any suggestions?

Jamie Fobert Architects (projects) I am useing transitions between the projects and am loading details/text and images externally through flashvars, php and a mySQL database. Within my transitions I have a a preloader on the forst 2 frames the code is as follows (taken from a Voetsjoeba tutorial):

This works pretty well if the content is within the .swf, but when it is loaded externally it doesnt preload it at all. Does anyone know how I can adapt/improve this preloader? or somehow ensure that all the content being loaded externally is loaded before the transition plays?
I am loading an externally loaded swf that uses a mask to transition in. When the user clicks a different button I am doing a gotoAndPlay that goes to a mask that "unloads" the content (it doesnt actually unload the info is just outside of the mask area. As soon As I jump to that section the movie is no longer loaded and just shows the container clip that I had created for it. The Container Clip is never changed and is the same throughout the whole process. The only thing that changes is the mask animation.I have tried both loadClip and loadMovie but no luck on keeping the clip loaded.
EDIT - I have narrowed it down. When I change the mask movieclip the movie unloads for some reason. Is there a way I can keep it loaded?

I want to swap these 2 images, that is I want mcImg1 can be displayed in mcContainer2, and mcImg2 can be displayed in mcContainer1, of course the easiest way is I load these 2 picture again, but of course, it's not the answer I expected, also, we can move the movie clip to make the change, I still think it's not the best method, because it will make program too complex.
I have a homepage with five "links" to each swf. Now the first swf I have a custom cursor that hides the mouse. When I click on that link it plays and when I quickly go to the homepage again it hides the mouse there when it's not supposed to do it.
Same with every other link. When I was busy with the first swf and want to go to the last swf of the five, my mouse just disappears! It is almost as if it keeps on "playing" without seeing the swf...

i'm having some "big" issues with what seems like a pretty easy flash concept. But, im pretty green when it comes to coding in flash.
I have a SWF thats being externally loaded into another SWF file (see code below):

(If i'm understanding the above code correctly...its loading the SWF into a blank MC i created called dropZone) This part seems to work correctly when tested.
I've got 4 different SWF's that need to be loaded seperatley when its coresponding button is clicked. The issue arises when I import the external SWF file...it resizes itself to the size of the flash stage. I need all the SWFs to be loaded and remain there original size (1257x847) or be scaled to the correct size. Then if I click another button it should load the new SWF and "unload" the old SWF.

View 18 RepliesI'm loading swf's via an XML file. I'm wanting them to be added onto the stage in the same order that they appear in the XML. The problem that I'm having is that they are added to the stage only when they are fully loaded.

View 1 RepliesWith the assistance of a very kind member of this forum, I have got as far as getting an .FLV to load into my API via its own .SWF.

click on "Animalia - Verse from the Zoo" to load the VideoPlayer .swf which contains the .FLV
I will add more functionality when I've solved this. Now that I have a Video Player which closes, the next set of hurdles to overcome are these:
Click "Close" with the .FLV playing and the sound keeps playing because the .FLV is still playing. Click "Close" with the .FLV paused and when you call the player back, it plays from the same spot. So, my tiny brain says it's an "add/removeChild" issue. Obviously when happy user clicks "Close" and then re-loads by clicking "Animalia", happy user wants the video to play from scratch. That's what I want, anyway. Not from where it left off after clicking "Close". I've made several attempts at adding a "remove FLV" object to the function and Event Dispatch method, but what I did is wrong because the code I put in removed the .FLV permanently and when you call the player back by clicking on "Animalia", the .FLV does not play at all. I'm going round in circles looking for the correct NetStream/removeChild/unload.nsplay/etc/etc .. AS3 coding and where to put it.
My .FLV video load object on "NewPlayer.swf" is:

My questions is:- What is the correct coding to get the VideoPlayer .swf to unload its .FLV completely, SO THAT when a user clicks "Close". Either with or without the .FLV playing, everything closes completely and when re-loaded, the video plays from scratch?
I am externally loading an flv into an empty movie clip container using loadMovie into a main swf. The flv is in a standard flv playback component and works fine on its own. But what I'd like to be able to do is pause the flv when any of the buttons in the main swf are pressed.
