everyone seems to have problems with LoadVars() (porting text from a server-side to FLASH). I've managed to get that working. HOWEVER, even though the text shows up fine in the SWF, I want to be able to do some sort of tween to it (example: give it an _ALPHA of 0 and then bust it up to 100 when i want it to). In the attached .FLA, there are two boxes: one is the MOVIE CLIP (a text box under) and the other is a text box. the text box outputs fine, but the MOVIE CLIP doesn't do anything.

I've imported 9 .mov files in my flash presentation. Each lasts for about a minute, and the language is english. I have translation of each video clip in Serbian language as .txt files. And now i need that text to go below the movie clip simultaneosly with the voice in movie clip. And for example when i press pause,the text stops,and when i resume it,the text goes again.
i have a dynamic text field that loads a variable into it (just a simple text file). this text file will be updated on occasion. i also have a movie clip to be positioned below the text field, however i want the movie clip to change position depending on how much text is in the text field so there isnt a large gap and so they dont overlap. is this possible? i tried the following actionscript to adjust the size of the text field depending on the amount of text. textField2.autosize = "center"; however i have no idea how to get the y position of the movie clip to adjust accordingly.
Hi, I'm making a simple target shooting game in Flash CS3, and need to know how to make it so when you click on a movie clip, it adds 1 to a dynamic text box reading 00.
Is it possible to have a textField in a movieClip in vertical position and after you click on that movieClip the text to go in horizontal position? If it is possible, how can be done? Because I have made some search on the web and nothing.
i have a dynamic text which loads data from external file what i want is that based on what i click in the dynamic text the corresponding image should be displayed from the folder in the movie clip loader. e.g say dynamic text file has ball,bat,bird,sun these should be listed in the dynamic text area and when say i click ball, the movie clip loader should display the the image of ball from the folder.
I'm having an issue with some clickalbe movie clips that are dynamically being placed on the stage with dynamic TLF text boxes being placed in them. The TLF text boxes seem to be blocking the event listener attached to its parent movie clip. If I leave out the TLF text the event will trigger.

i went through the tutorial for the actionscript text effect... and i got it to work... but now i want to put it into a project as a movie clip, so it loops, but i can move it freely as an object... but when i put the whole thing into a movie clip, it only does the letter in the text box that i animated, and it only runs once...

Basically when loading dynamic text... the .txt will have a simple yes or no inside of it... nothing more nothing less.I've been trying all morning to get a movie clip to begin playing if the value is "yes", and to NOT play if the value is "no"
Basically i have a movie clip on the main time line named WHM. and im loading a dynamic text file into a dynamic text field named player1whm.
I want to be able to change the text file to yes or no on a whim, and if the value is equal to yes... i want the movie clip to begin playing as soon as it loads that value into the box. Can someone tell me why the last letter of text in some of my movie clip buttons is chopped off? Take a look at the URL below and click on the Demos button...you will see "promo" and "narration" are slightly chopped off. When I go into the movie clip there in nothing wrong and the mask I am using is plenty big enough - the whole line of text should be showing.url...
I have a text box movie clip called Text_mc. The Text_mc contains the number "1".I need this number to be updated daily at 12:00am by adding "1" to the existing number. Actually it is like a counter, but it counts days from the number given in Text_mc. Daily it adds a number to the existing number at 12:00am.
I've made a little file with some signpost movie clips that do a little animation on mouseover and mouseout. I then wanted to set the text on each of them via actionscript i.e. sign1.sign_text.text = "Checklist: Before you arrive"; etc. This code puts all the right text on the signs when it loads, however as soon as you mouseover it, the text reverts back to the original placeholder text in the movieclip (when it gets to the second keyframe). How can I keep the reference to the text it has at the beginning of the movie clip?
Imagine I have a movie clip on the main timeline that has text in it. If I use the free transform tool on this clip, it resizes the movie and the text within.
However, if I resize the clip using AS2 e.g. clip._height = x; then the clip is resized but the text isn't.
Is there an easy way of achieving the effect that the transform tool has using AScript or do I have to set all the text params separately when I resize the movie
What i'm doing is creating an Inventory System, when you click on an item it is added to your inventory.
I've done that with no problems but id like to add script to the icon of the object. So when you roll over it you see what the object is, through a dynamic text field on stage.
I use this script inside the icon's MC so that when it appears on stage it has its script built into it.[code]...
I have been going round and round with the problem of needing to put scrolling dynamic text into a movie clip. I have read many tutorials and forums, but just can't seem to find the right fix for my particular situation...have tried embedding fonts, using various paths, work arounds, etc.
I am editing some action script I did several years ago. I would like to use a wipe-in (mask) affect so that the text scrolls in when called, but I cannot get anything to work without the dynamic text being on the main stage...because of this, the text shows up all at once. Am creating this in a separate file to import into a holder in the main movie. I'm pretty sure this is a path issue.

I've been trying to contol a movie clip by inputting certain text. I am trying to animate a movie clip that has a dynamic text box in it using the tween class but I can't get it to work. I thought that if yr text box was inside a movieclip then tweening was possible. I've attached the fla so you can have a look.

Above is my code on a frame in a movie clip. The movie clip contains a dynamic text box that counts down. The variable name and the name of the clip is timer. when the timer reaches 0 it is supposed to go frame 70 which says sorry you did not make it, instead it goes to the frame that says congratulations... What am I doing wrong?
