I have a MovieClip object, which is exported for actionscript (AS3) in an .swc file.When I place an instance of the clip on the stage without any modifications, it appears in the upper left corner, about half off stage (i.e. only the lower right quadrant of the object is visible). I understand that this is because the clip has a registration point which is not the upper left corner.If you call getBounds() on the movieclip you can get the bounds of the clip (presumably from the "point" that it's aligned on) which looks something like (left: -303, top: -100, right: 303, bottom: 100), you can subtract the left and top values from the clip x and y:[code]matrix has a tx value of 748 (half of stage height) ty value of 426 (Half of stage height)concatenatedMatrix has a tx value of 1699.5 and ty value of 967.75That's also obviously where the movieclip is getting positioned, but why? Where is this additional translation coming from?
View 1 RepliesI have an index.swf that serves as the main part of my page, and it loads swfs as sub pages.One of my sub pages, home.swf, needs to be able to load it's own set of sub pages as well, which means I'll have a swf within a swf within a swf (index.swf > home.swf > home_1.swf). When I test compile home.swf by itself, it works fine. But when I test compile index.swf, I get the Error #1009. Here's my code with the line indicated where the debugger says the problem is:

i am using a movieclip who has two nested movieclips, the problem i am dealing is that when i try to get the width or height of the parent movieclip it always showing the values of the small nested movieclip, when i draw the movieclip it draw perfect but when i read this values shows that error, what can i do?

I have a flash file which I want to loop, and have used this action on the last frame:

Seems to work, but I need to convert the file to FLV and am losing the loop when I do this.
I need to move between (rotated) object in flex along x, y, or z as an independent observer. The movement relative to x, y works ok, but when I go along the z axis, the observer behaves as it was apart of the xyz system of the objects and doesn't go straightforward to the object but in diagonal for example. I've noticed a bit of discrepancy of using the public AS3 API for the GlowFilter strength property. All the others seem to make sense when comparing the visual effect using the Flash CS5 tool on a MovieClip. However the strength seems to baffle me. The API lists strength being a number from 0 to 255:
http:[url]..........How does a number between 0 and 255 translate to a number between 0 and 100% as listed in Flash CS5. In other words what would be the parameters I should use to repeat the same effect as this:
If I try to apply this using code this is what comes to mind for each of the properties:
blurX = 5blurY = 5color = 0xFF0000quality = BitmapFilterQuality.LOWstrength = 255
So does strength of 100% act the same as the max value of strength allowed by the API, which is 255? Here's what happens when you do this with this code:

Notice the slight difference in the strength? How can we accurately replicate filters given these two strength scales? I need to apply a class to a load of MovieClip objects at run-time and don't want to have to go into the library and paste the filter preset 100+ times.

I want to make a language translation app, like google translate. I want to know if there are any libraries I could use to translate from one language to another like: spanish to english. I need to translate between the languages: spanish, english, italian, french & portuguese. I've managed to find a few that do one word conversion. Including APIs that use Google Translate as a backend. But can't seem to get them to work so that they return alternative translations if available. The web-based PHP/JS/etc. APIs seem to offer this, but haven't found it in Actionscript yet.

I'm trying to built a flash web page, where I've placed tween effect in each page within the ActionScript. The error occurs on a the page (a movieclip) contains another movieclip. This is the code for that specific section, where bookworkone, bookworktwo and bookworkthree are buttons that would initiate "popup (movieclips)" gallery window that display images.

I have a nested movieclip that I need to control.I have searched the net and to this point I have been able to make it gotoAndStop at frame 1 and play().I can't make it stop.I understand that actionscript can be attached to the movieclip instance or placed on the root timeline.what I would like is direction to websites and or tutorials that might teach me how to control a nested movieclip.

I'm trying to build a styled, rounded button movieclip that I can reuse/resize. So inside a movieclip, I have two layers:
Layer 1: A border, which is a shape - a rounded rectangle (or actually the stroke of a rounded-rect).
Layer 2: A nested movieclip which contains a shape for the face of the button. I have added filters to this nested movieclip to give it a beveled-type look - typical rounded button stuff.
So, I've tried applying scale-9 to the parent movieclip: in this case the border scales fine, but the face (with the filters) does not. So, then I tried applying scale-9 to both the parent and the nested face movieclip,I want to be able have the button self contained as a clip which I can pull from the library, drop on the stage, and scale without distortion - and so far, as mentioned,I can't figure out how the get the nested face, the one with the filters applied, to scale appropriately.
I'm creating a quiz that has the user press a submit button.Everything was working perfectly until i tried to make the button look better by going in the clip and converting the rectangle to a movieclip.now the button looks great but says its calling a null reference.if i go in an break apart the mc on the first frame (up) then it works.why is it doing this? is putting a mc in a btn bad? is there a way around this.I really like the way by buttons look but dont know how to get the same effects without it being a movieclip.

User must drag flags, one by one to the countries, so after creating MovieClips that represent flags, I started creating code for them. That worked for France, but after I copied it to Germany and changed everything using CTRL+F ('france' to 'germany' and 'France' to 'Germany') it didn't. Well, actually it did, but there is some error. That's funny, coz German flag does absolutely everything it should, and still there is an error in the output. Here, that's the code:

I'm having a problem trying to get some nested movie clips to play. I have three movie clips on three different layers all on frame one of the parent layer. each layer has a labIe (well just call it "layer1", "layer2. "layer3") I have a stop command on the parent level (on its own layer). each of the three movie clips has its own animation (the nested animation). The lower two have a stop command in their first frame(nested) so they wont play. Only the top movieclip would play on run. I want to place a gotoandplay command in the nested timeline of the above movie, that will start to play the next lower movie clip nested timeline, as the above one is ending, and repeat this process to cylce back around to the top movieclip. The overall goal is to have one animation move into the other using nested timeline smoothly.

View 2 RepliesI have a main swf that loads an external swf (WNC.swf). The external swf (WNC.swf) contains a scrollPane that loads another external swf (WNC_DATA.swf). I'm trying to target the WNC_DATA.swf from the main swf, so I can tell it to go to frame (2). The following code targets the first child swf (WNC.swf), however I'm unable to target WNC_DATA.swf inside the scrollPane.

If -- draggable -- moivieClip_A is created, and then moivieCLip_B is created as a child of movieClip_A, (when movieClip_A is dragged onPress, movieClip_B simultaneously moves with it), is it possible to change a property of movieClip_B with a mouse event? Seems as though movieClip_A's layer position / mouse events are blocking mouse events for movieClip_B.

But it's not working! I know I'm getting to the right locaiton because _parent holds a variable, and I can access that just fine. But I for some reason can't access the movieclip at all.
