View 1 Replieswhat is the syntax for assigning names to textfields created dynamically using a loop.
Code:
for (var i:uint=0; i<10; i++) {
var myText:TextField = new TextField();
myText.defaultTextFormat = textFormat;[code]....
As expected, this code gives me a warning "Duplicate variable definition".How can I assign names dynamically (myText1, myText2, myText3...)?
I would like to preface this wall of text by saying, I am very new at this. I may be missing something obvious. I'm working in Flash CS5 with Actionscript 3. I'm trying to use actionscript to create a textfield, and populate it with text. I've embedded my font in my project using the "Font Embedding" window. However, when the code to create the textfield is run, if "embedFont = true;", the font is invisible. The cursor still changes when hovering over it, so I know it's there. Or at least its text box is, I guess. Dynamic textfields with embedded text which are already on the stage seem to be unaffected.
I've tried changing the embedded fonts outline format, neither work. I've tried directly embedding the font with the "embed" tag via actionscript, but it doesn't seem to work with CS5, or I don't know what I'm doing. As you can see in the code provided, I've tried "registering" the font, with no success. I've tried using:

I am new in flash so this question can sound stupid
I am about to create my first drawing in the adobe flash of some creature.
The problem is CAN i resize it when the flash is running (in runtime) by the end user.
Example: I want to increase the height of the creature.
I ran into the 'fontswf' utility to embed TTF fonts into SWF and I am struggling to load them at runtime from my app. All the examples I find online refer to loading the font via [Embed] but I am actually loading them with a flash.display.Loader and from what I gather, once the Loader.contentLoaderInfo fires an Event.INIT I need to register the font, like so:
public function handleLoaderComplete( event:Event ):void {
var FontClass:Class = event.target.applicationDomain.getDefinition( fontName );
Font.registerFont( FontClass );
}
The problem is I don't know what to pass in as fontName. I am generating my SWF through:
$ fontswf -a belshaw -o belshaw.swf belshaw.ttf
But when I try to call getDefinition( 'belshaw' ), I get an error saying 'Variable belshaw is not defined'. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?The alternative is to generate my on SWF files through templating an .as file and compiling them, but I would rather use a built in tool like fontswf if it's already there.
Im having is that I cant update the information that I get from my XML file at runtime. I have some static textfields that updates just fine, but its the dynamic ones that dont play nice.
The project is a small display that shows the amount of minutes that is left from the time set in the XML to the current time. I dont want to bore you too much with the details of it all.
Heres the code! Right now though it doesnt update at all. Removed those bits of code since it got me nowhere
Code:
var container:Sprite = new Sprite();
bottom_mc.addChild(container);
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();

I have a flash project that requires a swf file with over 300 textfields i.e a datasheet like in excel.i use actionscript 3 to dynamically add them at runtime.However I have a function calculate() that references them at compile time.So i think the problem is the caluclate() cannot find the textfields because they are still not added to the stage.How can i create them dynamically and after that add a function caluclate that will surely find the textfields?
Here is a code example of my work:
//add 50 textInput components
for (var intr:Number=1; intr<=50; intr++) {
var intTextField:TextInput=new TextInput();
[code]....
I have a loop which creates several TextFields in different positions[code]..
I have tried removeChild and setting the t.text to nothing, but this only affects the last created textfield
a quick explanation of what I'm at... I'm working on something at the moment, basically what I have is an external textfile which contains several variables; I am loading these variables into flash using loadVariables().one of these variables invokes the script to create several buttons on the stage using for() and attachMovie(), and add onRelease() actions for each. when each button is clicked, a new textfield for that button is created on the stage.
the other loaded variables contain appropriately named html-formatted strings of text, which are then loaded into their respective, newly created textFields. pretty traightforward, and everything's working perfectly, the tags are being rendered etc. bold text is turning up bold and links are working correctly.but, I know nothing about CSS and flash! here's what I'm wondering... although my text is being rendered properly, I currently have no control over the style of my text, so it is rendering as black, times new roman etc. how can I apply CSS styles in order to control font size, type, colour etc.?does this entail attaching an external stylesheet, or can CSS styles be defined within the movie?here is my code at the moment:
PHP Code:
//
create box for textFieldfor loadingMsg_root.createTextField("loadingMsg", 20, 10,

I'm currently creating an app which allows users to select blocks of text from a List and dynamically create a TextField on the stage.I'm calculating the height of the TextField and positioning the next TextField beneath.I'm also recording the total heights of the TextFields so that I know when the total height exceeds the available height, at which point I move the x position and reset to y position to zero.When the next TextField will exceed the available height I want to split it into two, so I'm calculating the remaining height, making the TextField.height into the remaining height.My problem arrives when I try to get the position of the last visible line.If I have the TextFieldAutoSize as LEFT, then I can dynamically generate the heights of the TextFields.For the final TextField in the column I need to set TextFieldAutoSize to NONE so I can change the height of the TextField. i.e. I don't want it to autosize.However, bottomScrollV returns the total number of lines, not the last visible line.I can create the required behaviour in a separate doc but when I copy the code into the loop it fails. Here is the code.[code].......
View 1 RepliesI have made some changes to kirupa's thumbnail gallery, so instead of loading thumbnails into the scroller, I'd like it to load TextInput from a Node in the XML.
what I've come up with so far (simplified):
Code:
function numbering_fn(k) {
numbers_mc.createTextField("t"+k, numbers_mc.getNextHighestDepth(),20*k, 0,10,10);
numbers_mc.t[k].text = numbering[k] ;
[Code]....
in my understanding, since the loadXML function is still looping, it should create an empty TextField and then assign a .text Value to it.
Aparently it creates the required number of empty TextFields, but the "numbers_mc.t[k].text = "whatever Text";" -bite doesn't do the trick...
I have a prompt string to be displayed in my combobox - this needs to be displayed in italics. When user makes any selection from the list - i need to change the style of the displayed content.
My css file:
.promptStyle
{
fontStyle: italic;[code].....
I am able to see the style change happening because the color changes; but the change specific to textInputStyleName does not get applied.
I'm trying to create a combobox inside a package and add it to the stage later on. However, I'm getting the following error when I try to click on the combobox: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. Here is the package for the combobox:

I'm trying to remove movieclips created at run time using "createEmptyMovieClip" but I'm having a problem calling the "removeMovieClip" function. The difficulty seems to be that the string that I assign as the instance name of the new movie clip doesn't actually refer to the created clip when I try to call"removeMovieClip".
So the "removeMovieClip" function doesn't work if the target name is pulled from the array. My guess is that this has something to do with the values of the array being strings...and it does when I manually type Apple.removeMovieClip(); in because Apple is the movieclip object name. How do call the "removeMovieClip"function using a var as the target?
I created a SkinnableContainer runtime because I want to set some style properties to it, then based on some external data I need to create a new SkinnableContainer and add it as children of the first one. This children height can be greater than the parent container.How can I create a SkinnableContainer runtime with some scrollbars?I read in the documentation that I need] to create a new Skin. [code
View 1 RepliesI do not know how to copy a DisplayObject can anyone can help me on this one? I've downloaded an image from a website at runtime and putting it into a DisplayObject and now I'd like to create a completely separate copy of it so I do not have to make another request to download it again.
View 3 Repliesim develloping an application for create a layout of advertising newspaper. the user can set the number of pages, and create rectangles represanting the adverts, then drag them and place them into the the representation of the page.the display list is as follow: on the main stage there is inputs textfields and a button that create the pages according to the number that the user typed.Then instances of the pages are created (MC Page in the lybrary exported for AS as Page and i have a class Page as well). Inside this clip Page i have my tools for create the rectangles and drag and place.....As well as the instances of my pages are created, button(1 for each Page) are also created. NOTE that Page and button are in the main stage My probleme is that i want my button to change the depth of is related page for it can be on top or alpha at 100% or the visibilty to true, but my button doesnt find the instance name of the pages at the export because they are not yet created.
View 9 RepliesIs there a way to obtain a reference name of each item on the stage. A reference name that can be then used to manipulate the object? (and how would one do that if successful in obtaining the name?)
As an example that is not working for me, if I drag to stage two movie clips and dynamically include 5 additional movie clips at runtime, this [code]...
how to access the properties of the movieclips which are created during runtime.
Ex:
var dotCount:uint = 0;
for(var i:uint = 0; i<=10;i++)
{
var circle:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
[Code]....
How can I access a property (say .alpha or any other property) of "circle6"??
I have two TLF textfileds in my application. The first TLF textfield is on the stage and the second one is created dynamically during runtime. Now I am able to embed the fonts in the first TLF textfield by using "use device fonts" since it is on stage. The flash player the rendering the data absolutely fine. I want to get the same look and feel for the second TLF textfield which is created dynamically during runtime. I tried so many ways.
Here is the code I am trying.

I need to dynamically bind properties of components created at runtime. In this particular case please assume I need to use bindProperty. I don't quite understand why the following simplistic test is failing (see code). When I click the button, the label text does not change.
I realize that there are simpler ways to go about this particular example using traditional non-dynamic binding, but I need to understand it in terms of using bindProperty.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" xmlns:ns1="Tools.*" minWidth="684" minHeight="484" xmlns:ns2="*" creationComplete="Init();">

apply actions to an attached/created movie clip at runtime? I.E. You use attachMovieClip to attach a clip, and then you add a startDrag/stopDrag system to it dynamically.

View 3 RepliesI have to make menu that will be used by cms. The problem is that the dynamic created textfields does not dosplay the cyrillic font. Now the menu is something like this: [URL] This is the menu with all the classes and some comments. If you don't want to download it... [URL] this is the class for creating textfield. In the library I got font named bab_font . The font has cyrillic gyphs in it (use Tahoma for example)
[URL] this is the class for the buttons , it is commented (it was in late night, sorry for the bad english) Everything works in english, just doesn't display letters in cyrllic (example) First friend of my suggested to make text on the stage, containg cyrillic letters, but this doesn't work.
I've been into coding for about 5 years now, but I'm a recent convert to Flash development. One of the questions I have at the moment is, considering that SWF files can be run by either Adobe Flash Player OR Adobe AIR, what's the real difference between the two runtime environments? What API's and Objects exist in one environment, but not the other?
Basically what I'm more or less trying to establish is, when would I want to develop an SWF for AIR, and when would I want to develop for Flash Player, considering that Flash Player can also execute locally (providing support for creating "desktop applications")
I can't get my text to show in a text field created at runtime within a movieclip on _root. I use a trace statement and it loads into the Output box but is not visible in the textField area..there are no masks in the movieClip.
My function for creating it...
// Call the function to create textField
printBtn.onRelease = function() {
makeTxtBox("text/print.txt");

I have only one question but phrased it 3 ways:
1) Is it better to pre=render things say in photoshop or have flash render them?
2) if I have a field of stars that drift along; is it better to create that Star Field in photoshop as a single picture (say a .png) or to create a star in my library and add it to a movie clip and then have that drift along?
Lets say I have a blur effect on my stars and have an equivalent on the photoshop.
3) I have heard (and experienced) adding effects like blur takes a fair amount of CPU and memory so was wondering if I created the effect in photoshop and then imported the 'blurred' object into my flash if I could cut down on system resources?
I'm using Flash CS3 and want to create a custom ComboBox. I've followed the steps outlined in "Editing component skins in a new document" (http:/[url]...), but every time I get to the step where I drag the ComboBox Assets folder from the HaloTheme.fla library into my library, if I test movie at that point my combobox has become an unclickable white rectangle with no label, button or anything.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.
How can I validate there's a selected item in a ComboBox before saving? If there's no selected item, how can I set focus on the ComboBox?
