Actionscript 3.0 :: Menu In Cyrillic - Dynamic Created Textfields Does Not Display The Cyrillic Font

I have to make menu that will be used by cms. The problem is that the dynamic created textfields does not dosplay the cyrillic font. Now the menu is something like this: [URL] This is the menu with all the classes and some comments. If you don't want to download it... [URL] this is the class for creating textfield. In the library I got font named bab_font . The font has cyrillic gyphs in it (use Tahoma for example)
[URL] this is the class for the buttons , it is commented (it was in late night, sorry for the bad english) Everything works in english, just doesn't display letters in cyrllic (example) First friend of my suggested to make text on the stage, containg cyrillic letters, but this doesn't work.
I have quite a big issue with regards to bold / italic Verdana fonts in dynamic text boxes in flash with Russian characters.I've tried everything now that I can think of and read various posts but nothing is shouting out at me for what to do next.I have uploaded a tiny flash file for this one..http:[url].....Here's what I have done so far:
- I have embedded the character sets using the "embed" button.
- I have also added the fonts in my library
- I have also edited the linkage in the library to export for actionscript.
This worked perfectly, until translation came into play. Spanish, German, French characters, all work fine.Russian (Cyrillic) however will not work in bold or italic.If you change the Russian text for English it works fine on both.I have attached 2 files one called bold the other called normal.Both exactly the same however one has bold set as true in the actionscript.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get a flex text control to display cyrillic characters for example. [wvxvw? hebrew?] In addtion to the main .swf (.mxml) file there are font libraries loaded that are also in a seperate .swf The text control is subclassed from Flex.Text and in a seperated .AS file. Then to top it, the actual text in cyrillic is coming from an .xml file.I've tried "<?xml version="1.0" encoding='UTF-8' " in the main .mxml file and the xml file. I believe I've put Byte Order Marks (BOM's) for utf-8 in the .AS file and maybe some of the other files. I've compiled everything with specifying the utf-8 encoding as well. I get nothing where the characters are supposed to be.
I've many unicode russian (cyrillic) fonts installed on my mac. When i type message like "T" type-tool - they show russian letters. When i embed it in Library like Font class, 50% of my fonts doesn't show russian letters.
I'm working on a mulitlingual site that has banners loading the text from an external xml file. The file I'm working on uses actionscript 2 and flash player 8. I'm using the font Avant Garde Gothic, which has all the glyphs needed.
I'm creating the text fields in the banners dynamically in as2, and then embed my font to a text format which is applied to the text field. This works great for Polish, Danish, Swedish etc. languages that just contain a few characters beyond the basic latin alphabet. But for Bulgarian, which uses the cyrillic alphabet, no text is displayed. This is my problem.
I've found that when I create my text field manually, using flash's gui, and embed the cyrillic glyphs manually it works fine, which shows that there's nothing wrong with my font. However, I can't use this method for my project. I've found that the only fonts that display cyrillic characters when being embedded through actionscript are fonts that are mainly cyrillic (but also contain a set of latin glyphs and some other basic stuff). It seems to me that flash only embeds a limited number of glyphs when calling the embedFont method and that the cyrillic glyphs are not prioritized here. Is this assumption correct?Is there anyway I can affect which gyphs are embedded using flash 8? I've read that Flex can be used for this but Flex requires flash player 9, doesn't it?
I am creating a swf for use on a Russian website. I have search box that the customer enters there search term which I then concatenate to the URL string in the getURL method.
When i use western characters this work fine but when i use cyrillic characters it breaks.
I have everything done to load a text from an XML file in my flash movie, but it shows the text only if it is written in EN i want to type the text in the XML file in Cyrillic but flash doesnt want to read it... I tried to change the Embed Characters of my text field but it still doesn't want to read it. I have added this to my XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> and still the same thing.

I'm using Agile Uploader in my project to resize image before upload on client side.And it works fine except one thing: if image name contains cyrillic letters it fails with server error 500.
How to avoid this or if needed how to rename file with english letters "on fly" (possibly with javascript).
I'm learning AS3 with Flex Builder 2, and have run into all sorts of difficulties when trying to embed a font so that a group of textfields will display correctly when they are tweened. There are a number of examples posted across the web which apparently work fine for other people, but I've tried them unsuccessfully. Perhaps this is because other people are using the Flash 9 alpha and it works differently in Flex, though I don't know why that should be. For example, with this code I receive an error that says "Unable to resolve "C:WindowsFontsARIAL.TTF for transcoding" even though the file exists in that location.
I make a dynamic textfield, specify it's instance, then assign it a string or variable with AC, but often the dynamic text will not display all the text or variables. For example, I say warning.text = "Please do not enter more info than necessary."; Yet what appears onscreen, is: "lease do not enter more ino tan neesary." This happens no matter how big I make the text area, or how small I make the text, so I don't get why it's not all viewed. (Btw When I copy from the textfield I do get all the text)

a quick explanation of what I'm at... I'm working on something at the moment, basically what I have is an external textfile which contains several variables; I am loading these variables into flash using loadVariables().one of these variables invokes the script to create several buttons on the stage using for() and attachMovie(), and add onRelease() actions for each. when each button is clicked, a new textfield for that button is created on the stage.
the other loaded variables contain appropriately named html-formatted strings of text, which are then loaded into their respective, newly created textFields. pretty traightforward, and everything's working perfectly, the tags are being rendered etc. bold text is turning up bold and links are working correctly.but, I know nothing about CSS and flash! here's what I'm wondering... although my text is being rendered properly, I currently have no control over the style of my text, so it is rendering as black, times new roman etc. how can I apply CSS styles in order to control font size, type, colour etc.?does this entail attaching an external stylesheet, or can CSS styles be defined within the movie?here is my code at the moment:

I have this very very large project I've been working on. I've just realized the font I've been using isn't standard on PCs. So now I have to embed the font for all the text fields in the whole project (they all use the same font), most of which are dynamic. I've added the font to the library, but I don't want to go through the hassle of telling every text area to embed that font due to the vast number of text areas and the project's complexity. Is there an easier method of setting all of the text in the movie to use the embedded font, or am I just going to have to bite the bullet? Can I use CSS to do it, or something easier?
I'm in the midst of the very honorable job of adding localization support for all kinds of languages. This would not be a problem if the main font we use would support asian and russian symbols.
After some nosing around I found a substitution font that has support for asian and russian symbols. However this substitution font isn't spaced in the same way as our original font. If I just replace the old font for the new font then all the text will be misaligned, too big and also lowered quite a bit.
What I'd like to do is when a textfield is loaded I check for what language is chosen and scale/resize/reposition the textfields accordingly.
I'm currently creating an app which allows users to select blocks of text from a List and dynamically create a TextField on the stage.I'm calculating the height of the TextField and positioning the next TextField beneath.I'm also recording the total heights of the TextFields so that I know when the total height exceeds the available height, at which point I move the x position and reset to y position to zero.When the next TextField will exceed the available height I want to split it into two, so I'm calculating the remaining height, making the TextField.height into the remaining height.My problem arrives when I try to get the position of the last visible line.If I have the TextFieldAutoSize as LEFT, then I can dynamically generate the heights of the TextFields.For the final TextField in the column I need to set TextFieldAutoSize to NONE so I can change the height of the TextField. i.e. I don't want it to autosize.However, bottomScrollV returns the total number of lines, not the last visible line.I can create the required behaviour in a separate doc but when I copy the code into the loop it fails. in my understanding, since the loadXML function is still looping, it should create an empty TextField and then assign a .text Value to it.
Aparently it creates the required number of empty TextFields, but the "numbers_mc.t[k].text = "whatever Text";" -bite doesn't do the trick...
I would like to preface this wall of text by saying, I am very new at this. I may be missing something obvious. I'm working in Flash CS5 with Actionscript 3. I'm trying to use actionscript to create a textfield, and populate it with text. I've embedded my font in my project using the "Font Embedding" window. However, when the code to create the textfield is run, if "embedFont = true;", the font is invisible. The cursor still changes when hovering over it, so I know it's there. Or at least its text box is, I guess. Dynamic textfields with embedded text which are already on the stage seem to be unaffected.
I've tried changing the embedded fonts outline format, neither work. I've tried directly embedding the font with the "embed" tag via actionscript, but it doesn't seem to work with CS5, or I don't know what I'm doing. I have made a UI control which contains a bunch of TextFields representing the members of an Array. I draw these un a list like in a combo box's drop down. Currently I hard code the height of the TextFields, iterate through the Array and position the TextFields by adding the hard coded height each time. Simple enough. But now I would like to put the control in another place where I must use smaller text. So I would like to make the thing general so I can resuse it whenever I want, simply by applying a new TextFormat. My problem is that I want to still be able to position the TextFields accurately regardless of the font size used in the TextFormat. I have tried just creating the TextField, applying the TextFormat, setting the text, and then trying to read the TextField's height, but alas this does not work.
what the best way is to find each TextField's height so that I can build my list?
I have a strange issue where a dynamic text field will not show a bold version of a font (Gerstner BQ) if the regular version is on the stage in a static text field.Remove the static text field and the dynamic text field displays the bold font correctlyI have created a test FLA to reproduce this and by turning the layer with the static text field on and off (Publish settings -> Flash -> include hidden layers [unchecked]), the issue is quite clearhis issue is so big for me that I have had to abandon a project in CS5 and start again in CS4 just to work around this.

I am using textfields to display xml data. I am creating a mp3 player and the textfields display the song's name, artist and album. As the code is now, the textfields display the correct information. But when another song is played. The new textfields just appear on top of the older ones. i have been unable to remove the older texfields. no matter what i try.[code]
