ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Elements To An ArrayCollection?

I am having issues with this method. It's supposed to loop through stage elements (news feed) and check if the item is checked/enabled. If they are, it should add them into an array ratingAC, which will keep track of the number of elements that are rated, and the rating total. The problem I am having is that only one item is added to the total even if multiple are selected.

I have an ArrayCollection as mentioned below.

I want to populate a ComboBox with UNIQUE VALUES of "appName" field from the ArrayCollection initDG.

One method I could think is to loop through the Array objects and for each object check and push unique appName entries into another Array. Is there any better solution available?

I have a big ArrayCollection variable. I want to filter it serveral times and each time assign the filtered result to a different ArrayCollection variable.
So if it has let's say people, fruits and cars. (for illustration purposes) I want to first filter it to only show people, assign the result to a people ArrayCollection, then filter it to show fruits and assign it to a fruits ArrayCollection and so on.
How can I do that? Not the filtering, but the assignment after filtering. Or is it faster to instead run a for-loop through the big ArrayCollection and just add each item into the corresponding smaller ArrayCollection?

I have an ArrayCollection and each element is an instance of the TreeNode class (a custom class made by me) that has a "children" property which is an ArrayCollection of more TreeNode elements. That way, I have a tree of elements in an ArrayCollection structure:

But my problem is: I need to have the same "tree" structure (it doens't need to be the same variable) filled with instances of another class. How can I achieve that?

I want to iterate over an ArrayCollection in Flex while there can be items added and removed.
Since i didn't find a way to use a "classic" Iterator like in Java, which would do the job. I tried the Cursor. But it doesn't really work the way i want it to be ;) So how do I do it nicely ?

I am using Adobe Flash Builder 4 Premium. I have a mx:DataGrid and a s:TextInput, and I am trying to set up a search box that filters the DataGrid on each key press.his page shows a nearly perfect example of what I'm trying to do, except that I'm setting this up in a s:TitleWindow, which is brought up as a popup using the PopUpManager. The list I'm trying to filter can be very large. It is a list of usernames, fetched from a MySQL database via PHP. Since it can be so large, I want the list to be populated once in the main application and then referenced in the popup window so that it doesn't have to fetch all the usernames each time the user opens the popup.I have all of this working fine for the first time you bring up the popup, but if you close it and bring it up again, I get this runtime error:I also get this error if I attempt to set the filterFunction back to null just before closing the popup.See sample code below:

I am using a service that returns JSON (geonames.org) and I'm putting the result in an array and dumping it to a datagrid. Now that works fine for one city like this [URL].. However, I want to call this service multiple times with different city names, so I created an XML list ad figured I would iterate over the city list and get the results.
My question is how do I do this such that 1) all the lists are combined into one arraycollection and 2) this seems like I will have to chain the calls and wait for results which may or may not come back, so I thought I would ask the group about the best practice, and or resources to read and examples to build from.

i have a clip on the stage that is 650px wide. i am placing dynamicaly sized clips on top of that clip. when they are created, their names are placed into an array. I am trying to take the items out of the array, find their widths, and then figure out if the width will be greater than 650 if the next clip is placed down. i'm stuck on the loop.
("track1Clips" is the array i have the clips in) here's what i have

If you see google finance or other such charts, they usually have a small pentagon on the chart that indicates when the dividend was paid. Note the D markers in the screenshot [URL]. In this link you will see A,B,C,D .... along the charts X-Axis. If you choose a larger data range say 2005- 2010 , then you will see blue dividend markers along the x-Axis. Is there any thing in Flex that will allow us to do that?

I thought i'd start this thread to uncover peoples habits and practices when it comes to the simple operation of adding and removing elements on stage. I ask because there are so many alternatives, and I keep wondering what might be the best/most eficcient way of doing it. Let me explain by giving an example:

Basically i've got a timer which records how long a user remains in either section A,B or C on my site. Each time the user switches from say A to C, the time spent in the section A is recorded into Array A and so forth. What i'm having difficulty with is adding each of the elements within the array together..... Top bits are just the button functions....bit in bold is what i would THINK would be the correct way to add the elements together - with a for loop....

I'm refactoring some Flex code written by another developer and I'm implementing a PresentationModel approach, as I like to separate out the ActionScript from the MXML. One of the problems I've found is that the original ActionScript code adds/removes elements from the MXML.What happens is the handler function checks the model and if the values are correct will either create or remove a element from the view. What is the best way to get the presentation model to ad elements to the view and still keep this loose coupling that I'm aiming for.I was thinking of using simple events which the presentation model dispatches and a view can list for passing the details of the element to add.

I'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:

I have a advanced datagrid and populating some data by using arraycollection. And i am filtering the arraycollection, the arraycollection index got changed.
Arraycollection:- [0] - name: abc
[1] - name: hello
[2] - name: hello1
[3] - name:hai
after filtering the arraycollection as 'hell' , the array collection is displaying like the below:
Arraycollection:-
[0] - name: hello1
[1] - name: hello
Can i know the reason why the index got changed after filter it?
* no server side code for filtering. it is only flex side filtering.

I made a .as Class where some graphical elements are spawned into the stage. However, the Flash (.fla) have some internal graphics that are supposed to be over the graphical elements spawned from the custom class.I tried to make another layer over the layer where the as3 Class is being called, but unfortunately it doesn't do anything, the graphic from the .as still appearing over the internal .fla graphics.

I'm using FlashBuilder 4 and trying to create a dropdownlist that populates a datagrid. The functionality is fine but my data is being chopped up too much. Currently every since "nepName" tag in my XML file is showing up in my dropdownlist (which makes for many duplicates of the same names) and only shows the data associated with that nepName tag. I want each nepName (by name ex. Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program) to display only once in my dropdownlist and populate my datadgrid with ALL the data in the XML file that is associated with that name.

I currently have an arrayCollection in Flex and I want to sent it to PHP (Zend_AMF). According to the Zend_AMF wiki, sending an arrayCollection over directly will force Zend_AMF to cast the arrayCollection as an object which is no good. I'd rather have an array of my models. I assume the best way would be to convert the arrayCollection to an array in flex and then send it over. Is this true, and if so how would I do that in Flex 3? If you have a better recommendation,

Is there any way in Flex where in we can sort an arraycollection based on strings .I have a dataprovider with strings like "Critical" "High" "Medium" "Low" where in I need to sort it in such a way that I need Critical to be displayed on the top and next High , Medium and Low follows.

I use an ArrayCollection object as follows:
1) Number of elements is fixed.
2) Elements are inserted at a given position, based on some order.
Can I set the max size of the ArrayCollection? Will fixing the size improve the performance, as elements keep getting inserted into this collection?
