ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Objects From Library Vs Directly On Stage?

I am a flash developer and I've got some experience in games and applications, but there is a problem that always comes back and that I solve in sometimes discussing manners, but I've decided to find the "good way" of doing it.Ok, here's my problem :I have a game where I set the publish setting to export in Frame 10. Most of the graphic content is already on the stage on the frame 10, but there are a few MovieClips that I add and remove using AS from the stage (a "How To Play" movieclip, for example).All the movieclips I want to use with AS are set to export in Frame 10 and are used in different custom classes.Everything works just fine if I set everything to export on Frame 1 and all my graphics are on frame 10, but not if I export in any other frame than 1.The workaround I've found is to create an instance of the objects I want to load outside of the stage, but I hate that way of doing things :I get no error if I create an instance of my movieclips through AS, but they won't show up when added to the display list (yes, I know how to use addChild )

I am unable to add the Action Script 3 FLVPlayback component to my stage or library in Flash CS5.5 when working with an action script 3 document.
Under components in the video folder i click and drag anyone of the FLVPlayback components (FLVPlayback, FLVPlayback 2.5 or FLVPlaybackCaptioning) to the stage and nothing happens. I am unable to add it to my library as well. All the other actionscript 3 components under the Video folder work. (BackButton, BufferingBar, CaptionButton, If I create an actionscript 2 document the FLVPlayback component drags to the stage and adds to the library just fine. So this appears to be an actionscript 3 issue only.
I have 2 other employees in my office using the same product and none of them have this issue. Only me.
I have tried to uninstall the product and reinstall but nothing helps. I have Flash CS3 installed on my PC and the product has the same symptoms as the Flash CS5.5 trial version that I am running.
I did not try this with Flash CS3 before I installed the CS5 trial. So I do not know if it worked prior to my CS5 evaluation.

I used the code above to create an instance of an arrow graphic that I made using the line tool (the graphic is embedded in a movie clip). I now want to add different colored fills and different stroke sizes and colors using code. Is it possible to do this with pre-drawn vector graphic objects, or is it only doable if I create the arrow with code using things like lineTo and curveTo?

I have created a movie clip on the stage and in symbol properties I have checked "Export for ActionScrip" the MC name is "slide" and the class is "slide" base class is flash.display.MovieClip.
When I test the movie I get this error.
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at main_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()

I'm trying to create an application with an extensive user interface. I've come pretty far and decided I wanted to really take advantage of the object oriented features that AS3 has to offer.
I've started off by created a few classes: User, Background and Main. Main is the document class of course. In the document class I have a function "resetStage" that clears the display list of all children. This is because I have many layers of images making up the UI and they all show up at startup unless I remove them. Besides I want to see where the stuff is positioned in the Authoring tool so I don't want to just create movieclips and then delete them.
My issue is with my Background class. Basically what I want to do is create a new DisplayObjectConatiner called bgContainer or something and then put all the background stuff in it. (The main background image and a status bar image). Then add the bgContainer and its children to the stage. This should all happen when the object is constructed.

How to add random movie clip to stage from many different movie clips in library? If I wanted to add one movie clip to stage I would do liko so:

I have a series of images I'm adding to stage from the library. I need them in separate movie clips for tweening. If I create a new layer... add a shape to the layer... mask the layer... finally, add a layer below that layer (with nothing on it) then all of the images I've added from the library are masked. No matter what I try with code however, I can only get one image to be masked. must you create a new mask for each image you would like to mask? I thought maybe if I could do it all in one go on a layer, there must be some code that allows one shape/mc/object to mask several clips.

I am using CS3. And this is all about understanding Identifier and Class from the symbol property under Linkage.
I read some articles where all are using class instead of attachMovie() method on TimeLine.
Its confusing to me and couldn't able to make it work.
The article I read says that attachMovie() method will be in class file.

I need to create an object in code which can then be imported to the stage. Specifically it's a circle with an ellipse cut out of it. The size and position of the ellipse masked out need to be parameterized by sliders, and the size of the circle as a whole is also a parameter which might be dragged out on the stage.
Does anyone have an example of how to programatically create an object in action script which can be imported to the library which can take parameters (or rather expose some methods) which can be wired to other things in the project like a knob or slider?

I am trying to create a card game (deck of 24 cards/6 cards will be dealt to the stage at one time (3 arrays)).
I want 6 cards to be dealt to the stage when you click the "Deal" button. I think i have the loop set up properly, the first array traces, however i can't get the cards to be added to the stage. What am i doing wrong? Once i get the first set of cards to be built to the stage, i will want to remove the previous set and the second set will be dealt to the stage once the "Deal" button is clicked again.

My AS3 application basically does the following (pseudo code from main application class) 3 or 4 times by adding custom objects to stage:

What is the right way to allow Garbage Collector to recycle _movieClipClassVariable after it is not necessary? Assign null to it? Remove all listeners? Use weak reference for listeners?

On my PC at work, I can drag a file from Windows Explorer directy into my Flash movie's library. I can't seem to figure out how to do this on a Mac. I tried selecting my file and dragging it to the Dock over the Flash icon, where I hit space bar to pull up the entire Flash program and can see the library, but when I drag my file into the library, nothing happens. Please tell me there's a way to do this - without saying something like "just import it from the menu" - if there is another way.

for first time decided to start using Classes to add my code instead of adding it directly in Flash and I really thought I knew how to handle this since I have created some re-usable classes before where you target an object by passing parameter etc,I thought that if I had one function (method) in my class and I wanted to call it from my .fla file all I needed to do was to create an instance of the class and then call my method.[code]But this doesn't work I get a message that says that it is missing arguments.how to use my code directly on a class and what are the differences of doing this versus putting the code directly on my .fla file and if it's even a good practice to do this?

I would like to create a Word Document and import that word document into Flash. I'm not talking about data integration from an outside file, but literally taking text from a text/word document and Flash create the timelines and tweens based on paragraph breaks, etc. Is there a component available that will do this. I have foreign Flash developers that don't understand English very well, and we have 6 to 10 minute movies that are basically text.This would increase our production significantly.

Just curious, If i nest a movieclip inside of another movieclip, and the nested movieclip is attached to a custom class. And that custom class has a Event.ENTER_FRAME listener. when I destroy the container movieclip, will flash get rid of the event listeners inside of nested movieclip's custom class ?
May seem like a silly question but flash has a tendency of not killing listeners along with the movieclip itself once it is removed from the stage(this is if your apply the movieclip via addChild). and its a hastle when things get too complex. My solution was to create a single loop for all my objects. Now ive come to a point where I am probably going to have to nest some movieclips inside of another so the position of the nested movieclip stays relative. the parent movieclip will be rotating and scaling so I rather nest it. But I got to know how flash handles moveiclips that are nested into a parent movieclip and has enter frame listeners.

best/easiest/fastest method in AS3 to design game levels (environment) directly on the stage. I'm sure there is multiple methods for this, but let's take a platform game for instance. I'd like to have 30, visually different, spinning wheels all around the stage, and I'd like all of them to have a different rotation speed without having to create a different class for each of them. Is there an easy way I could only place movieclips on the stage where I want them to be, without placing everything with code?
In AS2, I used to put these little variations of code directly on each clip. That way, level designing was pretty easy. All I had to do was to drag the obstacles where I wanted them to be, and simply set their rotation (or any other properties) in their respective code. I'm now having trouble using this method in AS3 since I don't want to place everything with code simple to set a single property. I also don't want to create a class for each different obstacle.

I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.
Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?

I'm writing a web based flash app that's written entirely in AS3. I have objects on the screen as part of a GUI. I would like the user to be able to resize the window, or make it full screen. I would like everything to auto-scale with the resize, but also remain in the same relative position on the stage.

I am currently working on a project that has me adding and removing a notepad that is a movieclip. Initially, I put the notepad to the outside of the stage and just moved it in with a button click, but now I want to make it so that it appears and disappears from the stage.

After adding a datagrid to the library in layer3 frame 15 the inputTexts x2 in frame 1 are not editable (cannot input) not even by using Tab. when i remove the dataGrid from the library everything is OK again
