ActionScript 3.0 :: Call Function From SWF Embedded With 'swfobject.embedSWF'
Nov 5, 2010How can I call an ActionScript function from a SWF file that is embedded in an HTML file using "swfobject.embedSWF" ?

View 4 RepliesI have to call an ActionScript method via Javascript, but I have a problem accessing the flash object itself. I embed the flash file via the help of swfobject.
Previously, when I use the static publishing approach, I could easily get the flash object by calling these methods:
swfobject.registerObject("flash_object", "9", "expressInstall.swf");
var flash_object = swfobject.getObjectById("flash_object");
For some technical reasons, now I have to use the dynamic publishing approach (using swfobject.embedSWF). But, as mentioned in the documentation, the method getObjectById can only be used if you use static publishing approach.
Now, how can I access the flash object?
Here is the code :-
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
[code]....
I'd made a flv video player. It's get variables from flashvars. Display wijth swfobject.embedswf in the browser. Sometime something wrong the player. I think, the AS is not runnung. I can see just the player graphics objects.
View 1 RepliesI'm using the following script on my website to play an mp3 in flash.To instantiate the flash object I use the swfobject framework in a javascript function. When the function is called the player is created and added to the page.
The rest of the website is in php and the page calling this script is being included with the php include function. All the other used scripts are in the php 'master'-page

I have a play-button with the id '#play1' and a stop-button with the id '#stop1' on my page. A div on the same page has the id '#status1' and a little image of a speaker is in the div.When you push the playbutton, the div with the speaker is fading in and when you push the stopbutton, the div with the speaker is fading out, very simple. And it works as I want it to do.
But the problem is, when a song is finished, the speaker doesn't fade out. Is there a simple solution for this? I already tried using the swfobject framework to get the flash player from the page and call the 'IsPlaying' on it, but I'm getting the error that 'swfobject' can't be found. All I need is a little push in the right direction or an example showing me how I can correctly get the currently playing audio player (in flash), check if it's playing and if finished, call a javascript function to led the speaker-image fade-out again.
I have a Flex 3.4 app that embeds a swf with mx:SwfLoader...
That swf has a public function named "playIt". I've tried dispatching events to gettingHere.content, casting gettingHere.content as a MovieClip and other stuff...
var swfApp:MovieClip = MovieClip(gettingHere.content);
if (swfApp.hasOwnProperty("playIt")) {
var helloWorld:Function = (swfApp["playIt"] as Function);
helloWorld();
}
I know there are ways to invoke javascript inside the html wrapper template for the flex application using ExternalInterface, but is it possible to reference an external html page?
View 3 RepliesI have made a html file in which a swf is embedded with swf object. this swf contain dynamically loaded audio files. It works fine in offline but when it is uploaded it does not show the movie(swf is not playing) I see only empty space. i thought that it may take time to load, but even after waiting for long time the swf did not play and it shows blank white space. Why?..........following is the code[code].....
View 2 RepliesI'm using SWFObject to embed Flash Videos. Is there a way to get notified as soon as the user hits some specific time marks of the embedded video? I.e. get a notification from the Browsers Flash Plugin?
My goal is to change the page content at specific times of the embedded video.
I'd like to call a javascript function from an embedded .swf file. Specifically, I'd like to call a function in one of my externally linked javascript files from within: function loadTrack(){
[Code]...
which is in an .as file which I assume somehow becomes the swf file. How would I go about this and 're-compile' the .as file?
With swfobject 2.2, how do you specify the desired version of flash you require? I need flash 10, but swfobject won't perform an upgrade install with the provided expressInstall. swf in the swfobject 2.2 distributable. How do I get an upgrade install to occur for flash 10?
View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble to call a flash function from javascript.Here's my code:My Flash (AS2) Movie:
Code:
import flash.external.*;
stop();[code]....
I'm trying to use ExternalInterface.Call to call a JavaScript function to launch a lightbox window. So far I have this:
AS3:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("launchLB", "" + aUrl + "");
JavaScript:
function launchLB(url) {
alert(url);
[Code]....
I get the alert but I can't get the lightbox window to display. When my as code makes the ExternalInterface call I get what looks like a page refresh and a blank browser window.
I have an enterFrame action that I use on a graphic:
[Code]....
Because I want to use the above code more than a few times, I tried to make it a function.
[Code]....
But for some reason the function call does not work when I call it via an action on a graphic where initially the code worked when it was explicitly written and not called as a function.
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
fadeOut();
}
why this is not working.I have an application with a new class I just created. The class loads, but will not call it's own internal function.
package com.parkerandkent.components.classic.photogallery {
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
import flash.display.MovieClip;[code]....
"Test 2" will not fire here.And I get this error message:
CallTag.as , Line 10 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method init.
I need to get a javascript var in my Flash application. I like to be able to just set a variable in the javascript (client constraints) rather than define a function.
Can this be done? I am trying to use the ExternalInterface.call()
AS:
ExternalInterface.call("function(){return window.someVar}", null);
JS:
var someVar = "Test";
This does not work and I suspect it is because the ExternalInterface.call() does not like the anonymous function.
I have a function defined in JavaScript like so:
function fadeBack() {
alert("fadeBack called");
};
I call that function from my Flash file like so:
import flash.external.*;
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("fadeBack");
This works in both Safari and Chrome, but for some reason Firefox won't ever call the function. Still, I can't figure this out. How can I fix it?
Does anyone know if there is a way to call a dispatchEvent call from inside of a static function?
View 2 Replieshave a node that has an asfunction embedded - won't work. if I change the a href to a web page- it works fine. If I try to call a custom function it doesn't call it at all.
View 1 RepliesI am embedding a number of SWFs in my main Flash movie, and I need to call functions within those SWFs.This is no problem when loading the SWF as an external file, but when I use the [embed] directive to embed the SWF directly into my app there seems to be no way to access the functions?I tried numerous approaches, including waiting for the embedded SWF to be added to the stage, but it seems it just does not allow access. And unfortunately in my case, loading the SWFs separately is not a good solution.
View 2 RepliesI have tried this for a couple of days. I created a swf object in window.onload (also tried load it directly), call an as function from js. statically embedded swf works for both IE8 and FF, FF also fine for dynamically loading. externalinterface.call("echo", "as returns " + b); always shows "as returns false".
//js
<script language="javascript">
var containerready=false,flashready=false;

I have a function in Flex which has three function in it.

I'm starting to learn actionscript 3 programming and am in the process of trying to create a simple game but am having trouble getting flash to call up various movieclip states.I have a movieclip called "Player" and inside that movieclip, I have Player_Stand,Player_Hit, and Player_Walk...
While I can get the master movieclip to move, I can't get it to play the embedded movieclips when I change states. I tried a more advanced method that did work where you stick all of the animations in one movieclip and then manually tell flash to advance each frame using gotoAndStop in a loop, but it would be easier to just have seperate movieclips that I could just call from a master movieclip file. I've tried various methods to solve this including having all of the movieclips on screen and then changing their visibility but that didn't work either.
[Code]...
is it possible to write a function to move an object and then call that function on a clip event for instance
function (bounce){
script;
script;
}
and then call it by saying
on(mouseOver){
this.bounce;
}
is it possible to store a list of params needed for a function in an array and then use that in a funciton call?
[Code]...
or something like that?? Prob have to iterate the array but how do i get the params into the function call? Is this even possible?
How create baseurl function in flash and how i call that function in button script
View 1 RepliesI have this code but I cannot work out how to fill in function parameters based on an array and it's length, see line 7
[AS]
import com.robertpenner.easing.Cubic;
MovieClip.prototype.framesTimeout = function(func:Function, frames:Number, args:Array) {
[code]....
Is it possible to call a function and fill in the parameters based on an array and it's length?
I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:
package
{
public class PER
{
[Code].....
Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?
I have a YouTube video embedded in my page. It is hidden (display:none). You need to click one of the video link buttons to display the video and play it. The links are defined like this:
<a href="javascript:play('xxxxxxxxxxx')">Video 1</a>
<a href="javascript:play('xxxxxxxxxxx')">Video 2</a>
xxxxxxxxx represent YouTube video IDs.
[Code]....
It's fundamentally pretty simple! But here's the problem. since the video player is hidden, the flash object is not activated. So when I click a video link, the line ytplayer.style.display = 'block'; displays the video player, but it takes about about half a second for flash to load. During this time it cannot accept any method calls, such as the next line ytplayer.loadVideoById( id, 0, 'hd1080' );. Essentially, I have to click the link twice, once to load up the flash video player, the second time to actually load the video into the player.
