I'm building an app with transitions out of each page. I'm using the code below to store references to a function and parameters for that function to use. Is this the best approach though?
[Code]...
So, basically, the photo_btn is writing the references and variables, telling the transition to play, when it reaches the end, it calls the function that's stored in the __func ref and uses the parameters. I'm doing it this way because I have a bunch of nav buttons that all call different functions, and this is the only way I could figure out to get transitions to play and then call the desired function at the end.

MovieClip.prototype.framesTimeout = function(func:Function, frames:Number, args:Array) {

I'm having a problem with a menu that is loaded from a xml file. I want to control the onRelease action for every button in the menu from one XML file, but I can't seem to get it to work... The buttons in the menu each have to call a different function with parameters which are declared in the flash file. The trace output shows the right function call, but it just won't fire the function.
This is an example of one of the nodes from my XML file with the function as node attribute:
PHP Code:
<locatie menu="LOCATIE )" label="LOCATIE" functie="showTextpage(myObj.locatie, CurrentProject)"> <image></image> <text></text> </locatie>
And this is my AS which loads the XML and sets up the menu:

I am writing my quest .as files for my RPG that I am making. At the present moment I am having issues with certain commands and how best to accomplish them. This pertains to my conversation system that I have in place. Currently, the conversations are stored as an array, with each index in the array representing a different "page" of the conversation. Now for my quests, at the end of each conversation (the last index in the array), I want a certain function to occur (receiving the quest, updating the quest, completing the quest). So my thought is to have a separate array with the same number of elements as the conversation array, and when the conversation text is updated to reflect the next page, it also will access the function array with that given index, and therefore only on the last page of the conversation will the function be executed.
Code:
var a:Array = [func0, func1, func2];
function func0():void{
trace(0);[code].....
Now my question is this, when is the code actually executed? When it is placed within the array, or when it is accessed with the for statement?

I have created an item renderer spark list in flex , but i want to call a function on addition of new row in list and not afterwards. I am getting a data object in rendered list in it i am getting the type of data to be displayed in list ie. either text or image. So on addition of new data in list i want a function to be called up in rendered list that checks the type of data received and then it will either create and add an image element or a text element. So the main problem is how i get a function called on addition of data. I have tried events like datachange and added but they keep on calling the function over and over again when we scroll the list but i want the function to be called once only on addition of data and not after wards. Below is the renderer list code , maybe you will get a better idea of what i am trying to do:

I'm working with arrays in AS3 and some of the utility functions described in the livedocs such as filter() or some() would be very useful to me, if only I could pass parameters to them...
Actually, I cannot find a single example of the use of these functions with custom parameters passed to their callbacks. Everywhere, it is always used with constants ! E.g. on this page: [URL]
var arr:Array = new Array();var totalElements:uint = 100;for(var i:uint = 0; i<totalElements; i++) { arr[i] = Math.round(Math.random()*100);}function isLargerThan90(element:*, index:int, arr:Array):Boolean { return element > 90;}var highestNumbers:Array = arr.filter(isLargerThan90);trace(highestNumbers);
What I need is a kind of "isLargerThan" function with "90" as an argument's value, not as a constant. Something like
function isLargerThan(element:*, index:int, arr:Array, param:Object):Boolean { return element > (param as Number);}I find it very odd that I cannot find no mention of the way to do this on the whole WWW, because that makes these utility functions absolutely helpless in many many cases and programming with arrays a real pain...

I have a main application that contains a list, using a custom itemRenderer to display data.
I would like to be able to call a function, inside the itemRenderer, from the main application.
When running the app, we have a list with three persons, and a button. I want to call the function myItemRendererFunction() inside the itemRenderer, of the selected item in the list, all this, from the main app.

I'm having some trouble passing parameters with a function that is itself being passed as a parameter.In my application code I'm instancing that class five times:they are buttons in a menu.In that class, I've got an onRelease handler that does a number of things when a button is released, one of which is to invoke a function that is defined in the application level of the code.My problem is that I don't know how to send the function parameters.In my StandardButton class I have:
class StandardButton extends MovieClip
{
/* define properties */[code]..........
The function is successfully being "sent" to the StandardButton class, but without any parameters.How can I send parameters to the class instance with the way I've got this architected.

I've defined an array which stores the function name, like this:
var aresetButtonTop:Array = new Array(resetTop1,resetTop2,resetTop3,resetTop4,resetTop5);
Then I have a button named"btnresetTop" which when clicked will call one of the five functions stored in the above array(aresetButtonTop). The functions are called at run-time depending upon some conditions. I need to figure out how I can call those functions using the array index. I'm using the following code to call the function. The value of i has been already calculated.
btnresetTop.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, aresetButtonTop[i]);
After doing this I'm getting the following error when I click the button:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter listener must be non-null. at flash.events::EventDispatcher/addEventListener() at gallerytest_fla::MainTimeline/thumbTopClick()
Note: thumbTopClick() is a function inside which all these codes are written.
I need to find out whether it is posible in AS3 to call a function name using the array index or not.

Can I call a function when building an array in Flex 3?
public function gridBuilder(myArray:Array):void {
var i:uint;
for (i=0; i<myArray.length; i++){
[Code]....
MyArray is the result of a remote call to the database. I then prepare the array to be used in a dataGrid. I also want to call a function that provides a grade. Unfortunately, my function appears to be called only once. Is it possible to call a function when you're building an array? see the "Grade:" bit.

I need to call a varargs function:
function doSomething(... args): Object {
// do something with each arg
}
However, I'm building the arguments for this dynamically:
var someArgs: Array = ['a', 'b', 'c'];
doSomething(someArgs);
The problem is, when I call the function in this way args ends up being a 1-element array with someArgs as the first element, not a three-element array.How can I call doSomething with someArgs as the argument array?(For the search engines, this is argument unpacking)

i've got a scenario that i'm working thru on paper first and wanted to run it by everyone to see if i'm doing it correctly and most importantly, efficiently so, here goes...the situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date.
[code]...
What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day.

so I have writing a function that returns objects on the stage and puts them into an array. and the function works fine until i call the function on more than one object name, meaning if im in the root class, and I call this function on object1 lets say it will add all the object one's from the stage, but if i call it on object2 it will throw an error, which makes some sense, i guess it means that it is not adding it to a unique array, but im not sure how to do that. would it be a good idea to maybe make a multidimensional array? if that is the case would it be too slow?

I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:
package
{
public class PER
{
[Code].....
Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?
