ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Object Hash While Retaining Array Functionality

Jan 25, 2010

Ever needed to create an object hash, yet wanted to retain some array functionality such as .length, and getItemAt()? Well I wrote a handy little utility class, using Proxy, that does so. Simply use it in place of a generic Object, and it will maintain a count of it's properties, as well as allow you to reference any index you need [URL].

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Object References In Array

Oct 29, 2010

I want to do is create several arrays to hold groups of movie clips (i am using as buttons) which have similar functions so that I can add event listeners using a for loop statement rather than making a huge list of add and remove event listeners.I have seen this method working before but I cannot get my code to work!! This is probably a very noob concept but I have been struggling with it for hours.Ok, so in the extends movie clip bit on my as file I declare the array as such:public static var controlBtns:Array;Then in the initializing function I put values into the array as such: [code]The trace seems to output all the object names (as they are listed in the library) and then I get this error: TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.Which is kind of obvious as I cannot seem to access the movie clip instance names that I have set up in the array.I tried putting quotation marks around the names in the array making them strings but then I can't access properties of strings - which is obvious enough to.

Actionscript 3 :: Creating An Array Of Objects - Set A Value Of One Object?

Apr 7, 2012

I would like to add a bunch of cars to the stage, and store them in an array as objects. The problem is I hate using external AS files and would like to keep it as simple as possible.I tried doing :

var car:Object = {carcolor:String,carscale:Number,carpower:Number};
var test:Array = new Array()
for (var i:Number=0; i<10; i++) {
test.push(car)
}

The problem is if I try to set a value of one object in the like test[1].carscale = 5

Every object in the array gets their attribute carscale set to 5.Is there any way I can do this without using external class files?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Array With Object Using Random Numbers

Mar 5, 2010

I need to create an array with objects when using random numbers. This is the script I have:
ActionScript Code:
if(_root.EnemyCar.hitTest(_root.kill)){
_root.EnemyCar.removeMovieClip();
var lol6 = Math.floor(Math.random()*200);
if (lol6==2){_root.attachMovie("EnemyCar", "EnemyCar", _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:74, _y:-100})};
if (lol6==1){_root.attachMovie("SwatVan1", "SwatVan1", _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:114.9, _y:-45})};
if (lol6==0){_root.attachMovie("OilTanker", "OilTanker", _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:74, _y:-250})};
}
As you can see the random number is from 0-250, I want to be able to have enemycar spawning from 2-20 and other movie clips spawning from 20-40 etc.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A Video Player With Annotation Functionality?

Feb 16, 2009

I'm creating something like a video player with annotation functionality. I can load up the notes, with times at which they were made by people (as strings), and put these into an array to be utilized. I also know the current time of the flv video as it's playing.
So each note has a time attached to it, but how can I use these as triggers that fire dynamically in relation to the video's duration?

Java :: Approaches To Creating Screen Capture Functionality On A Web Page?

Oct 11, 2011

I have read the various posts here on SO regarding screen capturing, but none seem to be answering my situation.On our website (inside a web page), essentially here is what I would like to be able to do.

User clicks on a 'capture region of screen' button.They get some sort of draggable/sizable box they can use to define the area to capture the captured area gets converted into a (preferrably) .png image is uploaded (or at least made available to upload - maybe saved somewhere).I realize this is not doable with javascript alone.So,I am open to a Java or Flash solution, and/or even a commercial solution (a drop-in java applet that I can add to our site).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Shop Cart Functionality With Array?

Dec 1, 2004

How exactly do I emulate a shopping cart? I don't want to actually send any info, I just want to have the person click on something they want, then later be able to review the items "collected".My prof "showed" us how and this is what I have (but it doesn't work).

PHP Code:

addToCart.onPress = function() {
descSound.stop();
_global.collect_array.push("pieceThumb");
trace(_global.collect_array);

[code]....

(I added the _global. thinking if it was a global variable, it might work. It didn't work before either, when the variable was just declared in the same AS window as the above function.)

addToCart is the instance name of the movie clip you click on to add the item to the cart. mainCont.cartContent.cartItems is the path to the movie clip where I want the items to show up.

pieceThumb is the name of the movie clip I want added to the cart (the name of the clip, not the instance name). Pushing this to the array works, as when it is traced, the word "pieceThumb" shows up.

PHP Code:

cartLink.onPress = function() {
_root.mainCont.gotoAndStop("shopCart");
//haltActions.apply(exitLink);
descSound.stop();
_root.mainCont.cartContent.cartItems.attachMovie(_global.collect_array[0], _global.currentshown, 1000, {_x:-200, _y:10});

cartLink is the link to the shopping cart, so that when you click on it, this function is called. I'm assuming it makes the items show up, but nothing appears. So I'm assuming this is what's broken.

Professional :: Retaining Bold And Italics In .txt?

Aug 10, 2010

I have a .doc file. I want to load the text from that file into Flash. So I convert it into a .txt using a website like this one: http:[url]..... I add in the little code at the beginning (myTextField=) and then Flash loads it fine. The only problem is any marked up text (italics, bold, underline) is lost. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Or for Flash to load text from something other than a .txt? Or to manually reinsert html tags to the .txt and get Flash to understand them? Or something else I'm not considering?

My text field correctly displays the text in the "PrimaryText.txt" file.  The first line of the text shows like this: <b>Testing this  text</b> instead of just showing up bold. And the "Render text as  HTML" is checked.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Retaining Alignment + TextFormat?

Jun 19, 2007

I have a movie where the user is able to type text into an input text field. The textfield itself is set to be left-aligned, but I provide the users with 2 buttons for alignment... left-align and center-align buttons. I have it so that if they click on one of the buttons, it sets a variable that stores the alignment with the one desired, and then calls a function that contains all of the textFormat code to display the text with this latest change. That works fine, to an extent....

When the movie is first started, the text is left aligned (as it shoudl be since the text field is set that way)... and then if I type in some text and then hit the 'center' button, it centers it like it should. Now here is where the problem is: If I go to add in more text before what is already there, or select some of the text and begin typing, it immediately left-aligns the text again. It would be annoying for the user to have to hit re-center the text again..and to make things worse, I have it so that when each button is pushed, it shows an 'on-state' ... so when it automatically left-aligns the text, the 'center' button is still active.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Retaining Unwanted Formatting In Text Box?

Jul 13, 2009

I just upgraded to CS4, and I'm trying to do a simple text-input/dynamic-text project. Here's everything in the project:

1. Input text box. Variable: "thisText". Text color: blue.

2. Dynamic text box. Variable: "intoThis".

3. Button called "button1".

And this is my ActionScript, applied to the first frame (not a symbol):

Code:
thisText="";
button1.onRelease = function () {
intoThis="before "+thisText+" after";
};

When I run it, I get my input text between "before" and "after", but the input text is still blue, and there's a line break between my input text and "after".

How do I stop it from saving the formatting of the input text and inserting a line break? I've done this in previous versions of Flash just fine, so I don't know what's going on here.

I've got it set up for Flash Player 10, ActionScript 2.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Object Inside Another Object?

Aug 11, 2010

is it possible to create instance inside method of another instance? But I want new instance to be sibling of instance where it was created.something like this:

ActionScript Code:
parent = new Parent();
childA = new Child();
parent.addChild(childA);

Child class would have this onclick event function:

ActionScript Code:
public function child_click(e:MouseEvent):void {
childB = new Child();
}

I want "childB" to be child of "parent", no property of childA. so I could do:

ActionScript Code:
parent.addChild(childB);

how is this possible without passing "parent" instance as parameter?

Flex :: Stop TabNavigator From Adding HASH To URL

Dec 21, 2009

I have a TabNavigator component that keeps added a hash (#) to the URL. I need to prevent this. I have it set to historyManagementEnabled="false" but it is still adding the # to the URL when it initializes. The reason why adding this hash is such a problem is because, I am using .htaccess to give my URL a pretty URL like domain.com/designer/category/product/id when the page is really located at domain.com/product.php?pid=id So in order for my assets to load correctly I had to add a base tag like this:
<base href="[URL]" />
But since I have this base tag set, whenever my flex app adds the # to the URL, the page is now automatically redirected to the homepage. Any way to stop the TabNavigator from adding the # to the URL.
