View 1 RepliesI am working on project in flex 3, where user enters some text which is to be stored in a mysql database and shown later. I am using XML for data transfer from flex to php and vice-versa. SimpleXMLElement in php is being used to create the XML. The problem is the XML breaks on special characters.Here is sample code:
FLEX:
var someXML:XML = <root><data>somedata</data><data>...</data> ... </root>
var data:Object = {};
data.xmlData = someXML;
saveDataService.send(data);
Here somedata is the data entered by the user. In php, I extract the someXML using SimpleXMLElement and store it to mysql. There is no problem till here. Even if somedata has special characters its working fine and data is stored properly.Now, in the other case, getting data from database and showing in flex, the response from the php breaks with an error:
SimpleXMLElement::addChild() [simplexmlelement.addchild]:unterminated entity reference
I tried using urlencode in php, and decodeURI function in flex, but the decoded string is not the same, few special characters are still %xy after decoding.
For this project I'm working on currently I've had to create a Font Symbol and select 'Bold' in order for the 'Bolded Font' to display in my dynamic text box.I'm just wondering, is there a way to only select uppercase A - Z to be embeded with the Font Symbol, rather than the whole font?Note I had to create the font symbol as this is the only way to attach the 'bolded' version - Else I would be using the 'Embed Font' button and selecting which characters I wanted.
View 3 RepliesI've created a flying bird movieclip. Now I just want to make a flock but I don't want to use action script. I can reuse the same movieclip but then they are all identical. They are all flapping their wings at the same time. Which isn't really realistic. And any changes I make to one of them, they all change. What I want to do is say, if I click and drag my bird animation into the stage three times I'll have three flying birds. But now I want to change them individually. For example, have each flapping their wings at different speeds etc. Is this possible?

View 15 RepliesI'm trying to build a custom FLV preloader for the FLV PLayback component, but every thread refers to using the NetStream.bytesLoaded (non-component FLV command). What are you supposed to do when using the FLVPlayback component??I tried this - but it didn't work. myVideo is the FLVPlayback component.
Code:
myVideo.getBytesLoaded = loadedBytes;
myVideo.getBytesTotal = totalBytes;

I've been working for a little while now trying to make a portfolio site for myself and I'm almost done but I'm having one little issue with preloaders. (There are more things not finished, but they're just things I haven't gotten around to doing, I think).The thing I'm trying to do is create a custom preloader for an image gallery that loads each image.You can see an example on in the 3D Architecture section on the site here:(Yes, I know the main preloader is working fine, I'm talking about the one in the 3D Architecture section.)Here is the code I'm using for that frame:
Code:
//Specific Actions: Frame 5 (3D Architecture) code:
//All code is 3D Architecture specfic.

I'm trying to make a custom preloader for a .flv. But it won't work for me!
This is the code:
Code:
var flvControl:FLVPlayback = display;
var flvSource:String = "video.flv";
display.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, onLoadProgress);
[Code].....
I am not sure why the following code is not working. If I keep the ns.play("flv/movie/flv"); line outside of the PlayerStatusHandler the movie plays fine but I am trying to create a preloader for the flv using ns.bufferTime. My first switch statement works fine, but the second case is never called.
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);

I have a loader which loads on a MouseEvent.Click. It uses this for multiple swfs
Actionscript Code:
myLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + ".swf"));
How can I add a custom preloader to this?
After browsing the internet for a while I found everyone shows you how to make a custom preloader with your own graphics which is all fine and good but what about the people who just want to use the components and be done with it? I know I would have to use the UILoader and another
component. How to use the necessary components to make a preloader? I have quite a big swf and I need one.
I am writing a custom flex preloader which extends the IPreloaderDisplay class. How can I load the images from web in my custom preloader?
View 2 RepliesI have designed an Adobe AIR application. I want to show some preloader on it, before it opens up. tutorials on preloader aimed for AIR specifically or any already built in ones?
View 3 RepliesI need to build a preloader for a swf which size is about 3MB, I tryed and tryed giving up at the end to integrate a preloader in the swf itself because it shows up only when fully loaded, no way to fix this thing, looks like if you embed fonts there's no way to stream the swf for some reason. So a moved to another way, the classical , for me, one I wrote a simple, light swf which works as preloader and I load in it the big swf, the 3MB one. Every thing works, connection to the MySQL DB is ok, parameters are passed successfully to the Java scripts etc.. the fact is when it comes to the loading of custom classes crashes brutally, the errore code is #1009, whenever I declare an instance of a custom class in the AS3 of the 3MB SWF it crashes.[code]
View 5 RepliesI am trying to build a preloader class for loading external content (images in a gallery). I have no experience in this area and I could not find many examples of making preloader classes. I was wondering if and how would it be possible to trace bytesLoaded and bytesTotal from within the preloader custom class. I was trying to pass the Loader's variable into the class and then try to trace the bytes but no luck with that.
View 1 Repliesthe image I load using the tutorial loads really fast (it's only 240kb) which basically means that the progress bar just blinks and completes so fast that people who don't know what's going on won't know what just blinked.
My question therefore is this:Is it possible to tell the preloader, that even if the image is already loaded, the progress bar will take for example 2 seconds to complete?
That way people with fast connections will see the preloader for 2 seconds and people with slower connections will see the preloader for whatever time it takes to load the image.
Here's the code from the tutorial:
Code:
var imageLoader:Loader;
function loadImage(url:String):void {
// Show Preloader
preloader_projekt1.visible = true;
[code]....
I've tried a variety of tutorials and had no success in creating a preloader for my game.I can't seem to get all of my library items to load in frame 1 properly. Any tutorials that I try do not achieve the preloader effect that I desire.What I would really, really like is this:A .swf file that wraps my .swf game and puts in a preloader.That's it.How do I do this, or specifically, what should I be typing into the search window of this forum?
View 2 Replieshow to create a mask like this with ActionSript.It looks like a curtain opener and i would like to do this completely programmaticly if its possible.I am using TweenLite as my Tweening Framework.[URL]
View 0 RepliesI studied the above mentioned tutorial. I used this code.
function SetProgress(value:Number)
{
progress.width = value*base.width;
}
preloader.SetProgress(.5);
When I experimented it, got an error like this.
Access of undefined property base.
I gave all the movieclip names correctly.
I've been running into a billion problems while creating custom events, so I clearly don't understand some of the basics. All the examples I've found online are unnecessarily complicated, so I've gone ahead and created a super simplified version of how I think it should work. The results are in bold...

I would like to show a spinning circle at the start of the video letting people know it is loading until such times as say one third of the video has loaded....then i want to play the video. Once the video starts playing i would like the spinning circle to show again while the video buffers again if the user has a slow internet connection.
View 1 RepliesI am creating a custom Component using ActionScript 3. This Component have some properties that can be changed in the Component Inspector, and in this component i create a text field to show a message that the user define in this panel.
So far, works ok. But i want to give a chance to the user choose a font type to this text field, i found in the Component Definition, a option called "Font Name", with this option, you can select a type of font to use.
The problem is to recover this font in my Class of the component. I try to use the Font Class, but it seems that this class was not created for this. My question is: What Class i have to use to recover the selected font from the Font Name option. I try this:
var newFont:Font = "Arial";
[Inspectable(name="Font name", type = Font, defaultValue = "Arial")] public function set corPreloader(fonte:Font) { newFont = fonte; } public function get corPreloader():uint { return newFont; }
i have a set of "if conditionals" that should always be together,what i want to do is to put these conditionals in a function... then call the function once needed. i want to call this function once the flash starts playing + when i click on any of the 3 buttons.
here is the code so far:
ActionScript Code:
var btn1:Boolean=true;
var btn2:Boolean;
var btn3:Boolean;
[code]....
the problem is button1 should have no eventlistener once the movie starts playing, but it has all listeners... so how can i make AS reads BtnStatus function once it starts loading
I'm creating a portfolio which will load thumbnail pictures from a XML file.What I want to do, is simple, create a simple pre-loader for all the Thumbnails.My code is as follows:
Declare Variables =>
Quote:
var columns:Number;
var my_x:Number;
var my_y:Number;
[code]....
So, here is where the problem is. I want to show a progress clip (possibly one of those circle ones) while the Thumbnails are being loaded.What i have already tried to do is to add the code to insert a movieclip in the callThumbs function. But after that I couldn't remove the Progress child using the thumbLoaded function since it was declare in the previous function.
I am working on school project for a beginner Flash class. The code I was given in class for the preloader does not for my particular flash movie. Q #1: can you create the pre-loader within the same file as the movie (ie separate scenes)?Q #2: if yes, why wouldn't it wouldn't work for me? i was told that it doesn't for all files, but i would like to know why?Q #3: is there a way to do it through two different files with coding (the preloader file pulling up the movie file)?

I am creating a photo gallery using the loader component, however some of the jpgs are around 240k so I want to add a custom preloader. The issue I am having trouble with is... how do I set up a preloader that I have made to activate when the loader component loads a new jpg via the myLoader.contentPath = "sample.jpg"???
I am using a sliding thumbnail gallery w/ a static main image behind.
Anyone have a tip for settingup a preloader for the loader? Never had much luck making preloader.
My project Home Page contains several 'heavy' instances on stage. So as to entertain a visitor while all they are loading I start preloading transition. However despite all my efforts my custom preloader delays displaying preloading progress for a while: althoug preloader wheel rotates, progress value displays as 0% for several seconds - from 1-3 seconds in normal browsers up to 5-6 seconds in Safari (which I consider to be worst one for Flash). if someone could clarify me whether I should listen for ALL the children loading progress so as to fix this issue or just never mind (e.g. every button on stage consists of two VideoPlayers, one TLFTextField, one Timer, two Sprites and one attached sound; now I'm listening for two VideoPlayers loading progress only...)

I am following this page to create a custom preloader extending Sprite to load an animation SWF, but it is not working (the animation SWF is not displaying): [URL]. I know the Animation.swf file is okay, because if I load it into the main app it displays and runs. The preloader works if an image is loaded by the preloader instead of the animation SWF.
test.mxml (main app)
BTW, I typically have many more lines of ComboBox in the app to force the preloader to display, but limiting number of lines here.
