ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Font Symbols With Specific Characters?
Jul 16, 2007
For this project I'm working on currently I've had to create a Font Symbol and select 'Bold' in order for the 'Bolded Font' to display in my dynamic text box.I'm just wondering, is there a way to only select uppercase A - Z to be embeded with the Font Symbol, rather than the whole font?Note I had to create the font symbol as this is the only way to attach the 'bolded' version - Else I would be using the 'Embed Font' button and selecting which characters I wanted.
is there a way to embed certain characters instead of embedded the entire font package which would increase my file size tremendously. I tried creating a textbox and type in the characters I need in hopes that would embed those characters but that didn't work.
When embedding fonts programmatically, (example here), is it possible to specify certain characters as you might if embedding within the Flash IDE?Here is my code so far, which simply embeds the font. It works, but I am assuming that it is embedding an entire character set.
is it possible to prevent the exporting of embeded-font symbols in first frame? on my embeded-font symbols "export for as" is turned on and even if "export in first frame" is turned off my font symbol loads before firs frame.
I have seen this somewhere, people make a swf just for the fonts, import fonts they need into the library (and embed just the wanted characters) and they probably load this swf somewhere....
So I have this font that has 2 different styling for numbers. So for examle, the unicode for the number 1 is "U+0031", however the font contains another number 1 whose unicode is "U+0031 case sensative forms (case)". Is there a way I can display the second version of that character?
in this site we of course need to to display non-latin characters like etc.we decided to go for the Minion Font (on Mac) because it includes all possible Glyphs.no i embedded the font on the library and used it via menuitem_font =new Minion()but the special characters are still not displayed.also when i do trace(menuitem_font.hasGlyph)i get "false"
Does anybody know how to force Flash to embed all neededcharacters when creating font symbol? When embedded font is used in textfields instead of device fonts a lot of characters stop to be accessible. IsFlash limited to use only with a couple of languages? What about rest of them?
Here the text is "Press â–²+â–¼ to reset it to default." But when I set testTF.embedFonts = true; up and down arrow is not shown in output. If you set the value to false, characters are shown.
I have created this madly complex menu rollout with buttons, tweens lables with dynamic text- you name it..... now I want to duplicte this symbol and change its colour to make a new menu tab, but when I try to do this (by going into it and duplicating each nested part- I am getting a linkage error- **Warning** The linkage identifier 'Symbol1' was already assigned to the symbol 'Symbol 2', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'Symbol 1', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
I am using CS4. I have my Flash all setup and running perfect now w/ motion tweens etc.But I am trying to reposition some of my symbols on the stage (to get them into better alignment with other symbols), and every time I do this the move is recorded, and when I play back it shows the motion of my position change on my tween.Is there a way to simply move my symbols w/out losing their current tween, but not creating a new motion effect?
I am facing a problem while embedding font(Arial) in as3. Please check the attached fla. Here the text is "Press â–²+â–¼ to reset it to default." But when I set testTF.embedFonts = true; up and down arrow is not shown in output. If you set the value to false, characters are shown.
I have an input textfield nested inside a movieclip, i embedded a set of characters but when i run the movie i can still input characters that were not part of the embedding list. The input text field has both an instance name and variable name. If i copy that text field into an empty fla file, it works correctly by not allowing character inputs that were not embedded.
There is an attribute .restrict but as the defined it only prevents other characters from entering the textfield, restricting the textfield to the given characters. I want to prevent characters 1-10 from entering the textfield. The code below does not work the right way.
txt.border = true; // function down(event:KeyboardEvent):void { /*
I have a designer who has created a set of movie clips that I want to create instances of using ActionScript, but all I have is the name of the MovieClip as it's stated in the library (not the instance name).
Is there any way to create instances of the MovieClips using just their name? Or do I have to create separate classes for each?
Sometimes while typing in a textarea in Flex many characters will be rendered at one height then at some point on that same text line the rest of the characters are rendered a couple pixels lower than the rest. Here is an example, look at the last 'I' character, its low:
Sometimes changing the font size will fix this but its not consistent and its not something I can detect (and fix even if I could). Anybody got an idea why this happens? It happens for embedded and non-embedded fonts.
I am working on project in flex 3, where user enters some text which is to be stored in a mysql database and shown later. I am using XML for data transfer from flex to php and vice-versa. SimpleXMLElement in php is being used to create the XML. The problem is the XML breaks on special characters.Here is sample code:
FLEX:
var someXML:XML = <root><data>somedata</data><data>...</data> ... </root> var data:Object = {}; data.xmlData = someXML;
saveDataService.send(data);
Here somedata is the data entered by the user. In php, I extract the someXML using SimpleXMLElement and store it to mysql. There is no problem till here. Even if somedata has special characters its working fine and data is stored properly.Now, in the other case, getting data from database and showing in flex, the response from the php breaks with an error:
I tried using urlencode in php, and decodeURI function in flex, but the decoded string is not the same, few special characters are still %xy after decoding.
I have a pure AS3 project and I want to use a specific font. The problem is when I embed this font, my swf application is too big.I saw I can specify unicode range to embed just the characters I need. This seems to be usefull especially for asian fonts but it's a latin font and I need all the letters it contains.I saw I can load the font dynamically, but I need it everywhere in the application, from the home page,
I've created a flying bird movieclip. Now I just want to make a flock but I don't want to use action script. I can reuse the same movieclip but then they are all identical. They are all flapping their wings at the same time. Which isn't really realistic. And any changes I make to one of them, they all change. What I want to do is say, if I click and drag my bird animation into the stage three times I'll have three flying birds. But now I want to change them individually. For example, have each flapping their wings at different speeds etc. Is this possible?
I used this tut to create a menu. [URL] And my question is; Can I make the slider to move after a movie clip symbols instead of button symbols? That way my menu would be animated.
In flash, if you have a complicated graphic (like a complex diagram) that doesn't change much and you want to move/zoom/rotate it around, then does Flash perform better if you convert all graphics into symbols? Or does making symbols slow things down?
Background: Sometimes, you do things for so long, you can't remember why you started in the first place. Whenever I import graphics in flash (like from Illustrator, for example), I select everything, press cmd-B (or ctrl-B on Windows) repeatedly, "breaking apart" everything until I can't, anymore. Then I press F8 and create a symbol.
That's just what I've done for like the last 10 years. It's to the point where I don't even think about it, anymore. I vaguely remember doing this after learning that performance improves when you break apart graphics to create a symbol.
Now, I have a problem: I'm translating/rotating/scaling a massively complex, static diagram and it's too sloooow. I'm trying every technique I can think of to speed things up—every little bit counts.I've read this link and lots of others but I haven't come across the topic of creating symbols.
Summary:should I go back through and make everything a symbol? Should I go through and make everything NOT a symbol? Which is faster?
I'm working through a book called Foundation Game Design with Flash, and I'm finding the Flash IDE confusing. I've been programming for several years, so working with AS3 directly is far easier than trying to understand symbols and nested symbols and the difference between graphics and movie clips and scoping issues and all that -- when tied into the IDE.
How many of you who are making games in AS3 also use the Flash IDE? Can anyone recommend a resource that is AS3 heavy and Flash IDE light? I don't care how much time I may or may not save by using things like the timeline, I just want to understand what I'm using.
I'm attempting to use CS4 (PC/Vista, if that matters) to create a SWF file that will basically act as a "library" of commonly used symbols. This SWF would be loaded at runtime by other SWFs, which could then use the symbols within it, including all art and code assets.
I'm making a graphic button for a news app that allows the user to click on a headline.The button is composed of font and a rectangular shape in the back of the text. I want the text to be 100% transparent, and create the effect that you can see in the titles of this movie poster:
[URL]
does anyone know how to do this? doing it the way you would think...which is just to make the text 100% transparant doesnt work because the the background shape of the button (about 65% transparent) is in the way.
