IDE :: Reposition Symbols On The Stage W/out Creating Motion?

Feb 9, 2010

I am using CS4. I have my Flash all setup and running perfect now w/ motion tweens etc.But I am trying to reposition some of my symbols on the stage (to get them into better alignment with other symbols), and every time I do this the move is recorded, and when I play back it shows the motion of my position change on my tween. Is there a way to simply move my symbols w/out losing their current tween, but not creating a new motion effect?

Professional :: Scaling Symbols And Motion Tweens?

Jun 30, 2011

I created an animation with various symbols and motion tweens, mostly on outer level timeline.  At the end, I realized the resolution was too low for a quality quicktime export.  After scaling the canvas from 550x400 to 1650x1200, I tried scaling the rest of the objects using the "edit multiple frames" brackets, but every scene I try to do this to, only a few of the frames are scaled.  They start scaling and moving around all over the place fluctuating between the original and new positions.  So i have to go back and manually scale/reposition the tween spans.  Am I doing something wrong with the edit multiple frames thing or something?  Or is there an easier way to do this I haven't seen?

Can someone explain to me why they're so beneficial to have been added to CS4/CS5? Except I understand that movie clip symbols can be adjusted using the 3D tools but is that the only difference?

Is there any way to create instances of the MovieClips using just their name? Or do I have to create separate classes for each?

Make Subtle Adjustments To Simlar Symbols On The Stage?

Aug 13, 2009

Let's say I create a symbol of a stick figure holding a shield.Symbol 1: The Stick manSymbol 2: The ShieldSymbol 3: the Stick man holding the shield. Now, how would it be possible to place several copies of Symbol 3 on the stage while making subtle adjustments to EACH symbol 3 on the stage.Let's say I want to make each stickman slightly a different color without every single stickman taking on the same color. How could I go about making this subtle of an adjustment without effecting every instance of symbol 1 and 2 on the stage. Is this possible in flash??? It seems that flash has so much power, but I have yet to figure out how to use it all, and I sure hope something like this is possible.

Professional :: Create A JSFL Command To Select Each Of The 10 Symbols On The Stage??

Mar 6, 2011

I don't really know that much about Commands in Flash, but I was thinking this could be a possible Command to create.See, I have this puppet made up of dozens of separate pieces, all on their own layers. It's very tedious to click on 10 different symbols in order to move the character's arm, for example.I was wondering if there was a way to create a JSFL command to select each of the 10 symbols on the stage.

I tried clicking each one, and saving the "Change Selection" actions from the History Panel as a Command, but that is location-based.As soon as I move those symbols to a new location, the command I saved no longer selects them. And I can't select the objects by layer or frame, because it doesn't seem to want to save those either.

Actionscript 3 :: Post-processing Captured Video, Creating Slow Motion?

Apr 25, 2011

I have an interesting project wherein I need to allow users to capture video of themselves with a webcam at a kiosk, after which I email them a link to their video. The trick is the resulting video needs to be a 'slow motion' version of the captured video. So for example, if someone creates a 2 minute movie, the resulting movie will be 4 minutes.I'd like to build this in Flex / AS3 if possible. I don't have issues capturing the video and storing it / generating and emailing a link, but slowing down the video is the real mind bender. I'm unsure how to approach 'batch post-processing' a set of videos using Adobe tools

Flash: Improve Performance By "breaking Apart" Graphics And Creating Symbols?

Mar 18, 2011

In flash, if you have a complicated graphic (like a complex diagram) that doesn't change much and you want to move/zoom/rotate it around, then does Flash perform better if you convert all graphics into symbols? Or does making symbols slow things down?

Background: Sometimes, you do things for so long, you can't remember why you started in the first place. Whenever I import graphics in flash (like from Illustrator, for example), I select everything, press cmd-B (or ctrl-B on Windows) repeatedly, "breaking apart" everything until I can't, anymore. Then I press F8 and create a symbol.

That's just what I've done for like the last 10 years. It's to the point where I don't even think about it, anymore. I vaguely remember doing this after learning that performance improves when you break apart graphics to create a symbol.

Now, I have a problem: I'm translating/rotating/scaling a massively complex, static diagram and it's too sloooow. I'm trying every technique I can think of to speed things up—every little bit counts.I've read this link and lots of others but I haven't come across the topic of creating symbols.

Summary:should I go back through and make everything a symbol? Should I go through and make everything NOT a symbol? Which is faster?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash CS5 IDE - Symbols And Nested Symbols And The Difference Between Graphics And Movie Clips And Scoping

Oct 26, 2010

I'm working through a book called Foundation Game Design with Flash, and I'm finding the Flash IDE confusing. I've been programming for several years, so working with AS3 directly is far easier than trying to understand symbols and nested symbols and the difference between graphics and movie clips and scoping issues and all that -- when tied into the IDE.

How many of you who are making games in AS3 also use the Flash IDE? Can anyone recommend a resource that is AS3 heavy and Flash IDE light? I don't care how much time I may or may not save by using things like the timeline, I just want to understand what I'm using.

Professional :: Stop Motion Tween While The Object Is Still On Stage?

Mar 25, 2011

I'm a young girl who recently discovered flash cs3 (I started yesterday) I found this tutorial about how to make a flying bird. I did as the tutorial said, I just made a butterfly instead of a bird. Now I made a flower and I want the butterfly to land on the flower. The tutorial only showed me how to make the bird/butterfly fly through the scene and not how to stop it while I still see it in the scene. I figured out how to stop the motion tween but then the butterfly dissappeared from the flash file after it stopped and I also figured out how to make it land on the flower but it keeps moving its wings Now I need help to make it stop moving the wings while it's still visible. I hope my explanation is understandable. As I said I just started with this program so I don't know how to explain all the different things.

I tried to upload the file on imageshack but it seems like it doesn't support this kind of file, or I'm saving it wrong. I could need some help with that too so I can show others what I'm making without that they have to download the file so it's easier to get help when I'm stuck A link to the .swf file [URL]

Professional :: Motion Presets, Stage Size, And Defaults?

Feb 10, 2012

I put a motion preset (zoom in 3D) on a movie symbol instance. It worked great--it zoomed in well, and the instance stayed at the center of the stage for the whole animation, which is what I wanted.

I realized that I needed to change the stage size, for reasons I won't go into.I converted the stage measurement from pixels to inches, and resized it.Of course, all my graphics and instances were now off-center. In realigning and resizing everything, I discovered that my instance with the motion preset was no longer staying centered on the stage. It now travels in a right diagonal down to the bottom right corner of the stage when played. In fact, now anytime I use that particular preset on anything, in this file and in new ones, the same thing happens. It's like the preset has changed permanently on my computer and won't go back to the default.

I've tried editing the path frame by frame, but that makes a mess. I've tried using the subselection tool to edit the path, but that's imprecise and not working well.As an aside, I loaded this particular file onto another laptop here at work that has Flash Pro too. Before I opened my file on this new computer, that motion preset worked fine. Now that I've opened this file in the new computer, that preset is messed up, even when I start a new file.
