Professional :: Motion Tween - Animating Three Different Symbols
Oct 8, 2010
I've made 3 different symbols of a running Super Mario -- the first one is his first running frame in the Super Mario Bros. video game, the second one is his second running frame, etc. I would like to create a motion tween of these 3 symbols, so it looks like he's running from one point of the screen to the other. I'm unsure of how I would go ahead to accomplish this.

Right now, I have a car object named car that I want to animate around a track. I did the animation using a motion tween, then used the Copy Motion as AS3 option, the code looks something like this (arrays have been simplified so as not to take up too much room). The code works just fine, the car moves around the track like I wanted it to, but I was wondering is it possible to press a button to stop the animation at a certain point, then resume playing it again when pressing a different button?
ActionScript Code:
var motionGuide:MotionBase;
if(motionGuide == null) {
motionGuide = new Motion();
motionGuide.duration = 20;
[Code] .....

i am using CS4 on a PC, and I have created my motion guide layers as I normally do, created a path, but when I scrub the playhead, the symbol just goes from point A to point B without follwing my guide. Also they are not snapping to the guide. I have not done a motion guide in a while, what am I missing here. Also where is the pallete to turn on object orienting?

I created an animation with various symbols and motion tweens, mostly on outer level timeline. At the end, I realized the resolution was too low for a quality quicktime export. After scaling the canvas from 550x400 to 1650x1200, I tried scaling the rest of the objects using the "edit multiple frames" brackets, but every scene I try to do this to, only a few of the frames are scaled. They start scaling and moving around all over the place fluctuating between the original and new positions. So i have to go back and manually scale/reposition the tween spans. Am I doing something wrong with the edit multiple frames thing or something? Or is there an easier way to do this I haven't seen?

I am facing a problem in one of my animation with flash CS4 - I have nested a Shape Tween in a Motion tween to get more control over the easers and effects, unfortunately I am not able to view on the timeline of my Motion Tween the action of the Shape tween nested inside.
It only show the first shape of the Shape Tween during the entire Motion Tween and that is really a problem for me because I need to see the final frame result of that Shape tween to be able to position it in a precise way on my scene according to other instances.

I'm making a "master movie" for an assignment and I'm stuck right now. What I've got is an Intro page that will serve at the Parent.swf to load 4 other child swf's upon a mouse click. The problem is I have a theater stage where I tweened an animation to make it appear the curtain on the stage is going up but once it reaches it maximum height....the tween abruptly stops. I want it to HOLD there until a user clicks a button.
How would I make this happen? Here is the page in question: [URL]...

I've been going over several tutorials and whatnot and I'm confused on the point of movie clip symbols and motion tweens. To me using the other tweens and symbols are "easier". Can someone explain to me why they're so beneficial to have been added to CS4/CS5? Except I understand that movie clip symbols can be adjusted using the 3D tools but is that the only difference?

I imported an avi video to flash, converted it to flv with Adobe media encoder, and did some symbol animation on top of it.How do I export an avi video so that the video I imported is actually playing, and not just to see the skin and flv icon? When I test the video it makes it in swf form and I'd rather not convert it any further and mess up it's quality.Is it possible to view the video in work space while animating symbols over it (I kinda did it by heart)?

I have one layer with two tween spans, and would like to have a different symbol for each span. However, I cannot seem to do this without adding a keyframe in between the spans: if I have just the two tween spans, and replace the symbol in one, the symbol in the other span is also changed. What am I doing wrong here? (Using CS4)

I have asked this question in another forum but haven't got an answer yet. I have just started using Flash CS5 recently and have a question about the classic tween. I have noticed that when I make a classic tween Flash automatically makes symbols out of my grouped objects. I have worked with previous versions and it was sufficient to just group my objects on the stage to make a tween. Is there a way to turn this feature off? I'm an animator and it's very annoying and messy to make a symbol out of all the objects I want to animate.
When I add a tween (CS3) I always used the Properties panel and choose "motion" from the tween settings. This way there's no symbols added in the library. Just noticed that there are also tween symbols added if I add a tween using right Mouse click or via the menu Insert>Timeline>CreateMotionTween. Never used this before. But I can't seem to see any tween settings on the properties tab anymore in CS5.

after I create a motion tween, why is it that I don't always see the path of that tween? It seems that I've got to shuffle stuff around a bit before I actually see the colored path. Is there some trick to this?

I am trying to move the instance in a particular path, but by the time I finish defining the entire path, the first few points all go astray. I then completed only 5 change points, but by then the 2nd, 3rd and 4th point were all astray, as in, not in the position I had originally defined them.
I am very frustrated with this as I have been working on this file for ages now, and nothing of this sort happened before. I have redone the tween atleast five times but it still acts weird by the time i move ahead a few frames.

I am new to flash and working on creating a simple animation. I have the objects ready, but problem is I can't seem to get motion tween working. Following this, I tried a very basic motion tween just increasing the size of text from one frame to another and can't get even this to work. I followed the basic steps, converted the text objects to symbol etcetera. What is seen is for frames 1-9 there is no change and in frame 10 there is sudden change in size. I also notice that there is no 'arrow' observed in the tween as shown in a sample tutorial.

I'm finding it useful to add labels to my timeline so I can easily see where animations start and stop for different symbols. However, I can not seem to label sections that are motion tweened. The entire motion tween section is selected when I just click on any section of it. Even if I use CTRL + click to select a single frame, there is no option for "label" in the properties window like there are for other frames. It shows the motion tween options.So is there a simple way to label a motion tween?

I have an object with 500 Frames. I gave it a Motion Tween. Now I want to cut it down to 100 frames,without changing the Tween duration. Usually you can insert a blank keyframe, or remove the last 400 frames on that layer. But since it's a Motion Tween you cannot?
WTH is going on with Flash's timeline editor, this is ridiculously unintuitive.

I'm rather belatedly getting to grips with the new tweening system introduced in CS4. To be quite honest it's been a nightmare, but I'm starting to see its good points now.One thing that still drives me crazy is when you create a new tween and Flash creates a new layer for you and puts the tween into it. Why? And how do I stop it? Over the course of a 10 min animation with a lot of tweens I could end up with hundreds of layers

I have no problem creating shape tweens in Flash CS4, but motion tweens are a problem. Here's what I do:
- I draw a rectangle and convert it to a symbol on frame 1.
- I create a key frame on frame 25, where I place the symbol in a different position.
- On frame 1 I create a motion tween.
When I run this nothing happens until frame 24, and on 25 the symbol appears on its final position. I can do the movement with a shape tween, but I want to do it with a motion tween, as this may be a question at the exam next week.

This is a ridiculously easy problem but I'm drawing a mental blank at how to do it so in advance I apologize for the simplicity. I'm trying to get a movie clip to rotate and scale automatically without being clicked. I would like it to gradually rotate by 90 degrees and scale by 150%, but I can't figure out how to get a motion tween to do it and am having to do it manually frame by frame. What is the code to do this?

Is it possible to trace the path a symbol takes and create a shape(or shapes that appear as a tracing)? Very Simple example: The letter C, without serifs. Basically an arc. I would like the C to be "drawn" in the animation. I hope to simply motion tween along the C and trace it's path. I did a shape tween, and wasn't happy with the results. Plus complex paths would be very hard to shape tween.

Basically I am followinga book to learn flash animation for the first time. I am o'animating objects that change size' chapter. Here are the isntructions and tutorials for me to do:
1 create a new Flash Document
2. On the stage, ceate a new object in Frame 1.
3. With Frame 1 selected, choose Insert > Create Motion tween. (Flash turns your object into a symbol) There are more steps, but the reason why I stopped here is because whenever I create a motion tween from the insert menu, the object that is on the stage ends up not able to move and I get the following message: The current selection in layer 'layer 1' is a tween span which does not support drawing I don't have a clue what this means,

I have created a motion tween to fade in a symbol on the stage. I have set a there is a diamond keyframe marker at the point where the alpha of the symbol goes to 100%. I want to be able to drag that marker to a later point on the motion tween span (not sure if I have my terminology right here) but I find that I cannot -- I have to delete the keyframe and recreate it at the point where I want it.
