ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Cursor - Button Click Events Not Responding

Jan 18, 2011

I am attempting to use custom cursors with AS3.  I created a movie object that i position using:

function mouseMoved(event:MouseEvent) {
mousePointer.x = this.mouseX;
mousePointer.y = this.mouseY;

and calling Mouse.hide()

This works fine in that the custom cursor follows the mouse, but I am having troubles using events with the cursor.  I have several click events on several buttons.  The events do not trigger when using the custom cursor.  In my ignorance I would imagine the problem is that the custom cursor movieclip is on top of the button, and so click events are only generated for it, and not the button.

The problem is that when I click on button2 it leaves an image of the cursor right there on the button. It doesn't happen on button1. It was suggested that I am calling "cursor = new Cursor();" and extra time, but I am not. The code is below.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Cursor Blocks RollOver And MouseClick Events For Other Buttons And MovieClips?

Sep 15, 2010

I need to hide my mouse and have a bullseye movie clip as a custom cursor. The problem is, I also need to click on things, and the code that I found on forums to create a custom cursor blocks the mouse from clicking on anything.

Mouse.hide();
var cursor_mc = new crosshairs();
this.parent.addChild(cursor_mc);
cursor_mc.startDrag(true);

Is there a way to do a custom cursor that acts the same way as the mouse usually does?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Cursor When Over A Button?

Jan 10, 2010

I have a script to display a particular custom cursor when the mouse is over a particular button. It works OK, in that the cursor is displayed on MOUSE_OVER and hidden on MOUSE_OUT.The problem is that the cursor flickers, and its ability to activite the button on CLICK seems intermittent.Trace actions show me that the functions assigned to MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT are repeatedly being called when the custom cursor is over the button.This happens even if I take my hand off the mouse, and the function assigned to MOUSE_MOVE is not being called.Here is the code. (Inspect is a class added to a movie clip in the library, exported for AS.)

Code:
/* Custom Cursor */
var inspect_mc:MovieClip = new Inspect();

Flash :: Transparent Parts Of Sprite Responding To Mouse Events

Jul 17, 2010

I'm making a puzzle game in Flash cs5/as3 which can have custom puzzle shapes. Basically, the user can draw basic protrusions of a puzzle. Then I create a black and white puzzle piece with a custom function like this var piece:PuzzlePiece= new PuzzlePiece(true,true,false,false); PuzzlePiece is a class that extends Sprite. The four arguments correspond to the four sides of a puzzle piece (up, down, left, right). If the argument is true, it means that protrusion should stick out of that side of puzzle piece. If it's false, it should have a hole on that side, so it fits the protrusion. I first attach the protrusions that stick out, then i flip the protrusions that stick in, attach them to a new sprite (in_part) and invert them with the following function:

Flash :: MouseEvent.CLICK Not Responding On Stage

Feb 25, 2011

When I listen to mouse click event on the stage, it seems it's not always responding to my mouse click event. what I have is:

stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Test);
function Test(event:MouseEvent):void
{
trace("test");
}

I usually have to click a few times randomly on the stage to get the trace statement.
I thought when I add this event listener to the stage, it should respond to any mouse click within the swf area, no?

Flash :: AS3 MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE Event Stops Responding After MouseEvent.CLICK Call?

Nov 6, 2010

I have several stage event handlers to enable mouseovers over several dynamically generated moviecilps on the stage that then change their alpha to indicate the mouse is over that particular mc... fairly trivial (mcOver handler). Additionally, I also want to know what MC is clicked, so I update a public variable (public var activemc:Number) with the ID of the dynamic movieclip when the mouse is over it (using a hitTest to check, which is why the EventListener is added to stage and not to the MC), which is checked in the mcClicked handler:This is in the constructor:

//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startDrawing);
//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDrawing);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);[code]....

However, the mouseover behaviour (alpha 0 when over, alpha 1 when out) stops working as soon as I click on any movieclip on the stage, and the mcClicked ID checking (below) stops working completely. I don't know if this is to do with focus:

private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
}

I then tried adding the event handler for the stage mouse_move again and this gets the mouseover working again but only for 1 more click, after which it stops again:

private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Back Button Not Responding After Asfunction Called From XML?

Dec 31, 2006

The back button in my flash project becomes unresponsive untill I move the mousecursor only a pixel in any direction. Strangely enough it works fine for links that are in the flash file like the navigation buttons on the left side, but becomes unresponsive as soon as I call an asfunction from within the XML file.Its quite complicated to explain. Maybe its just best that I show the flash file and let you see for yourself.

[code]...

This is what you need to do in order to reproduce the problem.Open the swf named "hometestback.swf "in the swf folder.Click on "sitemap" button at the top (the XML data page is loaded into the textpane) Click in the textpane on the "partner benefits" link (its the first link under "company title") The new XML data is loaded. Now hit the back button (the little arrow next to the company ::partner benefits title) And the page will go back to the previous "sitemap" page. However If I click on the backbutton again without moving the mouse nothing happens. (it should move back to the first page)Well you can see the overstate of the button but the button functionality is never started.

In the debugger I can't reproduce the problem, but when playing the movie as a test its still there.I tried making different buttons. So they would load a different instance of the button and the swf would be forced to load a new button on every page it landed.I tried onPress, onMouseDown, onRelease none of it works.I tried creating movieclips with the functionality of a button.I tried mouse event listeners. So the back button would at least detect a new mouseclick.I even tried starting from scratch and recreated the entire site all over again.However no click of the mouse seems to be noticed by the flash player untill I've moved the mousecursor just a little bit.

From within the XML the only thing I call is a function inside the swf.The back button works by inserting the last page the user was on into an array and when pressed the back button moves back to the last page (framelabel) in the array.

Actionscript 3 :: No Hand Cursor Or Mouse Events On Sprites In Flash Player 10?

Jan 11, 2012

My movie targets flash player 10, and I compile it with FlexSDK v 4.51. It compiles and plays with no errors. But if I view the swf in Flash Player 10, some sprites that are set to buttonmode do not show a hand cursor or dispatch MouseEvents. In fact, if I play it in the Flash Player 10 debug player, I get an error:

"VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override of z in mx.core.BitmapAsset."

So to fix this, I can switch to using an older SDK, version 4.1. Now the error message is gone, but the mouseover problem persists - now for Flash Player version 10 and 11.

There are no flash 11 specific features used. It should be targetable using flash player 10.

I have determined that the mouse event and the override error are not related. The mouse event error seems to being caused by using filters. and I have found a workaround, by applying the filter to a child object, instead of the parent.

The error thrown above, is getting caused by an embedded bitmap. And it seems like a fix to that is to use flex SDK 4.1. Any reason not to just use the 4.1 SDK? Any way to make 4.5 sdk compatible with Flash player 10?
