ActionScript 3.0 :: Deleting/Stopping Functions From Running?

In AS3, how do you delete or stop a function from running? For example in Frame 3, I have a function called createAnimation(); running, and when the user goes back to Frame 1, I want createAnimation(); to stop running, what is the best way of stopping or deleting the function?

I have a question regarding creating a master fuction that when called deletes a whole bunch of other functions.To better visualize what I'm explaining below, view this URL: http:[url]... It'll be huge in a browse..r since its just a swf file.
To explain a little further:I downloaded the trial version of the Flash Timer component from FlashLoaded. I needed something that counts down to do a kind of a rotating banner. The best example on the web is ESPN's rotating headline thing halfway down the page. Notice how it switches, yet once something is clicked, it stops rotating? So, with that said, the best and quickest way my novice ActionSript knowledge could muster is to have multiple timers that all count down at different times. Then, once a timer is counted down, it moves the the master movieclip left.Here's the stinker: I can't make it stop rotating once one clicks on a button.I tried something like this:

I am making a character walk. This code will make him wobble to the right and when thats done it will trigger him to wobble to the left and then call the function again to continue the loop.I can get the loop to work fine by calling the function but how do I STOP the function? Also I want to call it later on. Is there a way to start and stop a function?

Trying to see if someone can guide me to a way I could stop my earlier tweens and onRollOver function when my onPress function is launched. What I worked out here with that McX/YScale.stop(); and that target9_mc.onRollOver = null; is kind of working but I don't want the onRollOver function to stop until the onPress function begins.

how to move from one frame to another (once clips complete their actions). I had previously posted some questions regarding this matter, but I think the post got too long and confusing (at least to myself).SO I'm starting over from scratch and want to go step by step so I can understand. I have a problem with two functions. This is the story: the user has to press the space button on keyboard when he sees something on screen, then the "rightClick" function is called. If he presses the button when there is something else on screen that is a wrong answer (function "wrongClick" is called). The problem is that when the user presses the space button both function run at the same time.
This is the call of the wrongtClick function on frame 5

I have a strange problem. When I run an exe projector that I exported from flash cs5.5, and on few of my client's computers it running very slow in full screen.When I running an swf file (not exe projector), also in full screen, it running well!I checked my clients computer hardware, and it match the system requirements of flash player.

I want it to while still easing into place like the iphone does. For example my stage is 550px. The drag and throw MC is 1650. That's 550x3. If the first image is showing starting at x axis 0 and you drag to the left it will ease into place stopping and showing the second image stopping the image at x axis 0. And the same thing scrolling to the next one and scrolling back. So the code is below and I've attached the movie that I'm working on.

I've got a project thats getting a bit big, so Im taking the actionscript out into separate as files. I want all the basic functions to be in BasicFunctions.as and the make a library for more specific functions. I find that a lot of people use the import statement but I cant get that to work with a simple Hello World trace, yet the include statement works fine (see attached). I understand that import/include work differently, but which is the better method? If import, then is that heavier to work with. Any rate, what's the best way to organise code when it gets to the 1000+ lines?

i have an image and it is a large sheet with series of poses for a character (like a sprite sheet), and wanted to take them out to be animated and make them into individual movie clips.I did successfully, but I went to delete the original image, however, the movie clips became red fills.Is there a way I can get rid of the original without affecting the movie clip?-If not-I wanted to do this because I thought it may save memory but i am not really sure if it will affect the memory since the sheet itself is not going on the stage, is there a chance that this full sprite sheet in the library won't effect the file size of .swf?And if it does, if I turn it into a graphic, or movie clip, will that compress it?I use Flash CS3!

i was trying to delete a row on a datagrid. basically, i click on the row, then i click a button so that the chosen/clicked row is deleted. here is my code snipet :

I can of course use removeMovieClip but I heard there was a more simple solution - attaching all of the MC's to another MC, and then deleting this MC would also delete all attached MC's. I saw some examples (starting with createEmptyMovieClip but I guess I'm having some problems with syntax.
ActionScript Code:

Is there a way to delete a specific value in an array? For example, the array:"Banana Peel,Hippopotamus Leg,Computer Wire,Keyboard"Would there be any way to delete just "Computer Wire" from the array? I found the Array.splice thingy, but it seems that you need to know the index of the thing. Therefore i guess my question is: Is there any way to find the index of a particular value.In the thing I am making, the value could be at any index in the array (it is put in place by the user), so I could not just say Array.splice(2,1,)

I'm trying to find a way to have global functions in my as project, similar to how flash does with stuff like the util functions (describeType()...), where you can just call the function wherever you need it. For example:

So when I call Test(), it prints out "hello world" fine. My problem comes in that I can't change the name of the Test function, and I can't add any other functions without compiler errors. Is it possible to have a load of global functions in one file, or do I have to split them up into separate files like in the example? Also, I know that I can make a Global class and call static functions like Code: Global.doSomething() but I'd like to know if there's a way to do it as flash does it (describeType(), getDefinitionByName(), etc), or rather, how does flash do it?

I have one function that puts text in a text field and makes a button goto a url onRelease.The code is like this:

I'm using Flash CS4 and I have to trim a .fla file down. I can delete the end frames no problem, but the first 600 frames that I have to remove are proving to be a nightmare. When I use the select>right-click>delete method it doesn't remove these frames, instead it removes the corresponding amount of frames from the end.

So every 25 milliseconds, a block is being created and it pushed into an array. The for loop cycles through the array and moves the x by 1 for each object in the array. If the x reaches past 300 pixels, then I want to delete the object from the game entirely. The way I'm doing it now yields an error, so what am I doing wrong and what should it look like inside of the "if (i.x > 300)" stuff?

I found what I am looking for when I list all variables. I want to cut out the rest of the menus that create a fan of pages.I removed the SWF's from showing up. But I am still having issues with changing the nMenus = "14" which is the number of menus to show. I want to change the "14" to "9" so there are no spacing in between my 3D Pages.

okay so there is my timer above, the timer counts down and everything else works exept for deleting the function at the end of the level, at the end of the level the script goes to another frame to show you have passed the level and then goes back to the previous frame to play the next level, all the new objects are made but the timer then counts double so its like the timer is running twice at a time so instead of counting down 1 everysecond it counts down 1 every half second, i have tried delete countdown();.i dont know how you actually make this work or how to go about it,
