View 3 RepliesI have a dynamic textfield in a libraried movieclip.
I referred to the movieclip from an external class and have the linkage setup for it.
However, no matter what I try to do to instanciate the text field inside it, I keep getting:
Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
Now I really want to have this dynamic textfield inside the movieclip because it's part of a preloader so I don't just want to addChild to the stage. So Now I think I can't just build it.
I've been working on this all afternoon long and can't seem to shake this error.
In my main swf I load preloader swf that contains two layers on time line. First layer is gradient shape and second layer is dynamic text field with instance name preloaderTxt that I am trying to access. Well I load it with success and in event complete I have this code:

I tried this:

But when I try to set its text property like this:

I have this code (below) where a user enters 6 numbers ranging from 1-49 but they cannot enter any other number apart from the ones specified. If they do press the submitButton at this point it should trace the error message 'OUT OF RANGE' into a dynamic text field. My problem is that I don't know why the error message wont display in the dynamic text field in the scene.

I display the name of operator in a TextField after parsing the xml file my problem is to loop through this different TextField with a fade effect.
What I have is a dynamicly created row of movieClips. In which TextFields are added with text that's received from an Array. What I would like to be able to do is click on the movieClip that's visible and have the code understand I clicked array[3] for example and it will show the 4th array item in another textfield.

I have a video gallery that generates a menu from xml.I first create a container then add textfields as menu items to the container I have listeners for mouse OVER on OFF for each menu item as welll as a function to change the text color ON CLICK.What I need to do is figure out how to switch a previously clicked menu item's text color back to "OFF" color when a new menu item is clicked But I Can not figure out how to traverse the display heiracrhy to get to the textField's color in all the other menu items.

so the video menu item's heirachy is some thing like
getChildByName("menu_container").getChildByName("v ideo_"+ c).getChildByName("title_text").textColor
but of course this does not work. I think my logic is reasonably sound I just not sure of the correct syntax to get at the textField.textColor of all the other menu items that ARE NOT clicked on the Mouse Click Event of a menu item that is clicked.
I'm trying to create a class that acts just as an normal textfield, same properties and all, but that also draws a background filled with a gradient behind the text. I'm not focusing on the gradient yet , just trying to figure out how to assemble the code... Is this the right approach?

I have a movie clip which animates out and then places an input textfield on the last frame for the user to type in to. The main movie clip is controlled from external ActionScript. Once the last frame hits and the input field shows I want to focus the users cursor with focus(); but I can't figure out how to call to that TextInput from the time line. mytext.focus(); ???

I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

I'm creating a playlist for a music player, and I've got the song names displaying correctly in my songTitle holder MC, but there's limited space for the song names to be shown in, and I'm going to eventually have it inside a scrolling movieclip. Problem is, the text inside the textfields disappear when I try to add a mask to the movieclip they're being loaded into. I've tried adding all combos of embedFonts, antialias, and blendModes I ran into, to no avail.how to mask dynamically created textfields with a non-dynamic (Flash IDE-made) mask.

I am very new to flex, i have created a simple login page in flex and created a webproject in Eclipse having a jsp page. i have put that jsp page in tomcat webapps. Now when i run an application of login from FlashBuilder it runs fine as i have given the ip e.g [url]... and passing it as a url in HttpService and it worked fine. but when i put my login.swf file in webapps same in that folder where that jsp resides and un e.g [url]... it displays the page but when i click on the login button it gives me with this error "Security error accessing url"
View 2 RepliesWell I have a problem with accessing my components within a movieclip I've cooked up all the code for my gameplay to work fine, which it does, but when I add all of these components to within another movieclip and try and access them from there(using dot notation), they cease to work. It has a 1009# error also. The game components (e.g. players, background ect) are within the double player map.

[URL] I build the program in Flash Builder 4.0, the program created a database file 'data.db'. I can find the file: "C:Documents and SettingsOOiApplication DataSQLiteArticleLocal Storedata.db", and open it in SQLiteSpy, I can see the three tables with data....
I created an AIR program within Flash CS 5.5, and put the lines of code on the 1st frame:

Would it be a machine / browser specific problem? As a sanity check the above code works with the same .swf file in chrome, ie, firefox and safari.I have read about the crossdomain.xml and don't think that is the issue as YouTube have that defined.Finally, all users (intranet app) are using IE and the same version of flash.I have been pulling my hair out the past 2 days and asking the question over and over again "Why is it only happening for some users and not for other users?"

On it's own the carousel works fine, it's only when I import it that it throws an error, all of the components within the carousel work fine (the images are highlighted on mouse over, the onclick code for the thumbs runs the right functions) it's just the scrolling that doesn't work.I've tried removing the references to stage from the loaded swf but I still get the same errors.I'm fairly new to flash but I'm finding the error messages to be fairly unhelpful at the best of times, I've attached the swf I'm trying to load in in a zip
i have two classes , and i need to call static function from one class to the other. also when i call this static function i need access the local variable of that class. Class Test2: Quote:

I've been using asGamer's excellent set of game design tutorials to put together a basic 'ship and enemies' shoot 'em style game - my first proper venture into using AS3 and external class files - and I've hit a problem with executing hit test results. To explain: The game uses Engine (the document class), Ship and Enemy classes. Enemies (new instances of the Enemy class) are added to the stage in the Engine class, where they are also stored in an array, enemyList. The Ship fires a Laser, and the Laser class is where we test for a hit on Enemies.
Now, in asGamer's original version he uses the hitTestObject to test for hits, and if a hit is registered, this line

Calls a function in the Enemy class to remove the relevany clip. However, as the hitTestObject includes the bounding box of a clip in its hit test, I decided to use Corey O'Neil's Collision Detection Kit for greater accuracy. The CDK CollisionList class returns an array, the each element of which is a clip with which the target object has collided.
The problem this presents is that rather than using

To deal with a collision, I now use

collisions[j].object1.takeHit();
Where 'collisions[n].object1' are the movie clips hit.
When I test the game it throws an error

Although the movie does not break, and continues to remove destroyed enemies as if there was no problem.
What the problem is with calling the takeHit function via the collisions array rather than the Engine.enemyList array? And perhaps suggest a way to prevent it? I should point out that the 'laser' is in fact a blast that can take out any number of enemies intersecting with the blast radius, which is why I'm using CollisionList to detect hits.
I'm working on an educational game that interacts with randomly selected characters. The names and attributes are imported from xml. I have a mc called characters that contains each character on a frame tagged with their name. The frame label is the characters name and I am having no problem displaying each character as they are randomly called.

Each charater is a mc with 2 frames one with mouth closed and one with mouth open. Because the characters are accessed using the variable characterName as the frame tag I can't figure out how to tell the movie in AS3 to gotoAndStop on frame 2 of the character mc. I've tried numerous variations and just can't get it to work.
I have three dynamically created MCs on stage and when I press on first one I want to initialize ENTER_FRAME function , but Im getting this error:

I am building a little Flash app that will consume some web services over HTTP. When I am in Flexbuilder and run my app there, it works fine. When I goto to my FlexBuilder project on my OS and double-click on it, it works fine. When I zip up my bin-debug file, I get this error:
Security error accessing url faultCode:Channel.Security.Error faultString: 'Security error accessing url' faultDetail:'Destination: DefaultHTTP'
So I googled that and got information on about the crossdomain.xml file. Well, I can't put a crossdomain file in the service I am calling, but I can put one somewhere else. So I put the following lines in Flex app:
