ActionScript 3.0 :: Extracting XML Data Through Direction Of An Array Of Strings?

Mar 31, 2011

Im currently trying to make an abstract method for reading xml data as parsing different formats is a pain in the butt. Especially with components I want to be reusable.

currently I'm having an issue with dynamically grabbing data from the xml and just don't know if this is possible.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Push Multiple Strings Into An Array, And Some Of The Strings Are The Same?

Aug 24, 2009

I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.

Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.

Code:
var myArray = new Array();
myArray.push (Snivvle);
myArray.push (Kirupa);
myArray.push (Snivvle);

I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Extracting Data From XML?

Dec 25, 2008

The XML file format is:

<xml>
<condesa>
<lote>
<loteid>H50601</loteid>[code]....

I have an xml file that I am reading from. I am them taking the data and putting it into an XML object named condechiXML.

var condechiXML:XML = new XML();
var XML_URL:String = "condechi.xml";
var condechiXMLURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest(XML_URL);[code]...

What I want to do is run a for loop for every branch in my xml tree where I access a property in each branch. I have the for loop working using the length attribute for xml but when i want to use:

for (var i:uint=1; i<=condechiTotal; i++) {
trace(condechiXML.condesa["lote["+i+"]"].loteid);
}

my trace returns blank lines.

IDE :: Extracting Data From LoadVars?

Jul 11, 2010

I am using the loadVars class (Flash 8) to load key/value pairs from a mySQL database through php (example &pic1=pic1.jpg&pic2=pic2.jpg&...).

The ultimate goal is to create a dynamic slideshow with a variable length, depending on how many pics were submitted by the user. Since the associative array object returned by loadVars does not share the "length" property of indexed arrays, my guess is that the values need to be converted into a new indexed array before being able to use them in the slideshow.

ActionScript 3.0 :: List Of Classes - Extracting Data From XML

Feb 16, 2009

I have created a list of Classes in a school in Excel and saved it as an XML file. In each row it contains the name of the class followed by a list of class members. In col 1 is the word "Class", in the next col is "7C1" ( or equivalent) then each cell after that contains the names of the class members. I can load the XML file no problem, and display the full contents using 'trace', but I don't seem to be able to extract just the class names and student names to use in a Flash application. But near the bottom where it's told to trace all 6 items, they come back as "NaN."[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Keys Returned As Strings?

Jun 24, 2009

The more I get into haXe and cpp the more I'm wondering this about as3. Iteration in as3 is easy in comparison to those languages. But if Array extends Object, overriding getters and setters to create what's basically an IntHash<string> or map<int,string>, and which only takes an int as a key, then why shouldn't the key iterator also return an int? Why does it return a string?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Encoding Image Data Into Binary Strings?

Jul 1, 2009

I'm trying to write a flash program that will import JPEG's and embed them into an XML string for storage. However, i'm having some trouble with casting them back into Bitmap objects, after encoding and decoding the strings in Base64.

I've used the external Base64 encoding class created by Steve Webster, which seems to work great in encoding and decoding the files, but i'm clearly doing something wrong in my code. I'm not sure how exactly I should be converting the decoded bytecode back into an image object, and get flash to display it. Should it be a bitmapData? do I have to code it via setting the pixels manually? Or can I simply just cast it as a Bitmap object?

here's a snippet of my code to show what I mean - At the moment this will return an error. Other things i've tried seem to return the object as a memory reference, rather than it's actual data.

(trace statement)
decoded.readObject() =
Error: Error #2030: End of file was encountered.
