Checking All The Strings In An Array At One Time?

May 1, 2009

Is there a way of checking all the strings in an Array in one time ex:

Code: Select allvar array:Array = new Array("string1","string2","...")
if(text_field.text == array[everything]){
doSomething()
}

I already tried "for(var i:Number = 0; i<=array.length; i++){ ..." it just doesn't work well enough enough.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Checking Two Strings Against Each Other For Errors?

Dec 2, 2009

I'm making a typing game that focuses on developing typing speed and accuracy. In part of this game, the user has to type a given word in a certain amount of time. If the user types the whole word within the time limit, the timer stops and it results in 100% accuracy for that word. However, if the user does not type the word within the time limit, I want to compare the typed word to the given word and find out how many errors they made.

I found this to be a lot more complicated that I had expected it to be. Fore example, if a letter was accidentally skipped or an extra letter was added, it will make all following characters seem wrong, even though the user only made one mistake.

How do I go about comparing the two strings?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Push Multiple Strings Into An Array, And Some Of The Strings Are The Same?

Aug 24, 2009

I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.

Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.

Code:
var myArray = new Array();
myArray.push (Snivvle);
myArray.push (Kirupa);
myArray.push (Snivvle);

I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.

In my case, I would send backwardH and backwardLI have has tested all three options, but there is no error but either backwardH or backwardL movieclipet gets affected, not both at the same time though I would like both to be influenced at the same time. For example if I click button_1 then movieclip_1 and movieclip_2 would play. And if I click button_2 then just movieclip_1 would play.

But near the bottom where it's told to trace all 6 items, they come back as "NaN."[code]

Why does it return a string?

One example is if I have a string like - "this is a string, yeah" - then I make sure not to count the comma in the string because it is between quotes from that string. Anyhow In the following function I have some how lost my spaces in the results.Instead of getting "this is AS3" I am getting "thisisAS3". ActionScript Code:
positionsArray = [posi1, posi2, posi3,posi4,posi5];
tooltipArray = [tooltipProy, tooltipAsig, tooltipRota, tooltipActi];

[Code]....

And the result is: tooltipArray = ["tooltipProy", "tooltipAsig", "tooltipRota", "tooltipActi"]; which doesn't work because the array no longer contains references to MovieClips but strings

2. NOT surrounding the name of my movieclip with ""
on (release) {
_root.tooltipArray.push(tooltipProy);
}

Which gives an undefined value

How can I "transform" the strings in the array to references to MovieClips?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Type Checking Data In Array?

Jan 15, 2006

I'm trying to do something such as:

Code:
var n:Node = openList.shift();

I know that all of the data contained inside openList is a type of Node object, but Flash returns an error. I don't know how to typecast such as placing (in another language)...

Code:
(Node) openList.shift();
...to tell Flash that the data returned will be a Node object.

Better yet, is there a way to specify, while declaring the array, the type of the data that will be placed in it?

I could just take the :Node tag out from my variable declaration, but this might be in a tutorial, so I should at least act like I believe half the stuff about proper coding I write about
