I have created a slider menu that moves when the arrows are clicked on either side. The images for this menu are loading dynamically from an xml file onto a 'container' in my fla.I need desperately to also be able to add text underneath those pics.

Presently I'm working in a simple website for a car seller. The offers section is composed of two main parts. First part is a clip (MC_AllCars) where is dynamically loaded "thumbnail + description" for each car found in the XML file. I get this with a couple of "for" loops. With this loops I read and extract the data, and then I put it with attachMovie in a movieClip used as template. This part isn't difficult to develop, but second is more difficult (for a newbie actionscripter like me).
The second part is other movierClip (MC_CarDetails) working as another template. In this template would be loaded all the car details It would be like this:

i m using flash on a module of Joomla to display images, i embed flash player code into javascript , it fetch images from an XML files wher images are predefined and it works fine, now i have a problem that i m collecting images from database, means images are dynamically, so i m unable to fetch that images an display on flash, i just want to knoe how to add dynamic image array into flash. do i need to create xml??

View 2 RepliesI'm reposting this message as I realized I mis-titled it the first time. And I really do mean it: I will pay for a working solution to this problem. I need to do this for a client and not getting it done is not an option. It's all working like a charm. The only bad thing is: I want to place .swfs files where the dynamic text is right now, and can't figure out how to do it.
What I really want is one large image/JPG on each slide, and below that, instead of the dynamic text shown in the tutorial example, a smaller .swf file should appear. (For this project, the text itself needs to be animated, and I can't do that with the <caption>/dynamic text option; I need to insert an SWF.) I'd really like to do this using XML since that's working so nicely otherwise and will be so easy to update in the future if the client wants to add new slides.
Can anyone provide me with the actionscript code to use in the context of this photo gallery? I'm not advanced enough yet to know where or how to place code that doesn't fall into this gallery/AS format.(I'm not being lazy: I have looked all over these forums for hours, read through about 60 pages of tutorials, went through the whole XML Photo Gallery with Thumbnails hoping I could somehow alter that to meet this project's needs... no dice. I had gotten far enough in that tutorial to be able to insert an empty movie clip where I want it, but could only figure out how to fill it with JPGs from the XML, not SWFs... and in any case the images did not then work correctly while advancing the slides.)

In another version I have deleted the desc_txt code and the dynamic text field in Flash, substituting a new movie clip (in its own layer) called "description" and an external link to the SWF file in line 2 of each node of my XML file, closing and opening that line with <description> and </description> rather than <caption>.

1) I can't figure out how to have URL links in the text that loads.
2) How can I make the scroller refresh to allow for new text in the dynamic text area. The content changes alright, but the scroller stays in the same position and if it wasn't needed initially, the scroller disappears and doesn't return on new text.

View 1 RepliesI am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:

What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to build a Flash gallery that would load a variable amount of images and create a scrolling gallery, with pop-up previews of each image. Essentially, something like this (left/right scrolling arrows, hovering popup preview) but I want it to be AS3 as that's what I'm focusing on learning. I'm quite new to this and not from a coding background, so pardon my question if it's redundant but I've searched for something non-XML based and couldn't find it. If someone could explain to me why XML-based dynamic galleries are better then perhaps I could convince my web-developer coworkers, but for now they've requested a stand-alone Flash app. We need a generic gallery we can use on various sections of our site.

I've made a gallery slideshow before but wasn't as intuitive looking back at it now and I want to start fresh on this new project. I would like to convert a jQuery lightbox style gallery into a flash XML based AS3 image gallery with categories. I don't want to code the FLA, I want separate AS files.
This is a school project for my website. I would use jQuery and I have more experience with it but this project needs a flash component. I'm just not sure where to start and looking for some advice on how and where I could find resources. I want it to be minimal as I can make it;
- 8 thumbnails to a "page/section" with more flowed into page 2 or 3 etc. (or a srcoller)
- a few buttons for categories
- images fading in full size with a description when hovered over and a close button
- preloader (simple bar)

Trying to make a dynamic gallery that pulls images (along with names and dimensions) from different folders on the server. Want clients to be able to drop new images into these folders and have them pulled into the gallery dynamically. Do I need to use PHP as I did with AS2? or can AS3 pull the image names and dimensions from the folders on the server?

THis is all working fine however I need to update the script to change the thumbnail gallery layout from a 3 column 2 row gallery to a 4column 4 row gallery.I've adjusted the as and resized the thumbnails to allow for this and setup a 8px spacer between thumbs

Just thought I'd see if this is possible with the XML Photo Gallery.1. Is it possible to create a dynamic border for the loaded image depending on the size of the image being loaded? 2. Is it possible to move the Y position of the caption text box depending on the height of the loaded image? ie if the image is 200 pixels high, then the text box should be positioned at 220 pixels.The current code I have which loads the images then automatically scrolls through them is:
